Bought mine last 15 Nov 2005 after reading different reviews from cnet and various sources. I had to try if this measures up to what ive heared from the feedbacks. Wow! im so overwhelmed with satisfaction that this cd/mp3 player totally rocks ! If you want the best sound, buy a seperate headphone i recommend Sennheiser PX 200 white color cost $59, so private that even the person near you cannot hear what your listening, i crank up a Wild Swans Bringing Home The Ashes CD, so absolutely superb. Its like carrying your stereo system in your pocket. If you want high quality sound dont skimp on choosing a high quality headphone or earphone, you will know what im talking about. This is only if you prefer headphone for a better wide sound ambiance. Its true that you cannot navigate easily at the dark, no remote control on the earphones provided. You had to read the manual first to understand all its functions.

My conclusion : Very satisfied and worth it.

This player is fantastic. After looking for a few months and

spending money needlessly, I finally found what I was looking

for. Let me explain, because this is important. Believe it or

not, but I am not into music; even though the sound quality is

great for music. I do a lot of MP3 recording to disc of spoken

word files that I record off the air and other sources (meetings,seminars, etc.). Many of these files are 2 and 3 hours long. I often don't want to listen to a file all in one

sitting, so I need a RESUME function on my player that allows

me to shut down at any time and then return to the place where

I left off. This player does it beautifully.

I'm surprised that manufacturers haven't figured out how

important such a feature is today in the era of podcasting.

I would suggest that they not only think in terms of young

kids and their music, but others like myself (an ever growing

group) who need a player for use with spoken work files and

recorded books, etc.

I've been buying Sony Disc/Walkmans for the past 5 years now, and I have to say, this is the best one I've ever purchased. What makes this cd player so great are the many features bundled in it. Not only does it play cds, but it also has an AM/FM, TV, and Weatherband (WB) tuner. Its sort of like an all in one, jack of all trades type of deal. You want music, you get it, and a lot of it!

Pros:

-It looks attractive

-It runs on one AA battery that lasts an extensive period of time

-It does more than just play cds & mp3s

-Bundled software allows nearly 490 songs to fit on one cd

-Controls are quite simple to use

-Pretty good price for so much stuff packed into one thing

Cons:

-No backlight. It'd be great to read the LCD in the dark

-No remote like the lower models

-Headphones are a bit fragile & weak

-Reception on the radio is a little hazy when indoors

Apple's ipod has nothing on Sony's walkman here.

I was hoping for a standard MP3 player but my budget just wouldn't allow it...and now I am sort of glad I bought this. For the money, it is much more versatile and has more music capacity. It is bigger than an MP3 player, but it's really light and the battery life ROCKS. I didn't see the value of the TV tuner until I was working and discovered I could listen to my favorite trash TV and nobody in the office was the wiser :)

The only problem I have with this product is the earbuds. I have small ears, and these ear buds just don't fit at all. I can balance them in my ears, but if I move, talk, or even chew gum, they fall right out.

I am now shopping for better earbuds but it would have been nice to have higher quality headphones come with this really great product, so I didn't have to spend the extra money.

i bought this cd player in June because of the radio and it's CD/MP3 capabilities, the last sony with radio i had lasted me three years until some nitwit stole it, who knows how long it would have lasted. the only thing still working on this model is the radio and that only works when i'm sitting very still at my desk at work, the reception is horrible. it's a good CD player if you intend to use it in one place and don't lug it around from home to work. it skips...a lot. i dropped it ONCE...and it won't play CDs now. waste of money

This had all the bells & whistles that I wanted, and then some. I can put about 200 HIGH quality songs on a single disc. Has a great anti skip, it's light, easy to use & it looks good. Plus it has a radio (a must for me). It's also gets TV stations, which is great while working. The only thing it's missing is a lighted display, but the display it offers is pretty wonderful. Who would want an ipod, when this offers so much more, & for less money?

I never expected to have so much fun with a cd player. The software included to create atrac3/mp3 files to play on the cd player is really user friendly. In just minutes I recorded 7 whole cds on 1 disc and still had room left on the disc to record about 26 more cds (NO LIE!!).

The display on the unit shows you the name of each file (album title/artist) and allows you to pick and choose what albums/tracks you want to hear, or you can mix things up by programming your own playlist. Just like an expensive Ipod or other popular mp3 players, but with a hands on feel (changing the discs) - something lost in this digital age. But with this you can play your regular cds and listen to the radio as well.

The unit has preset equalizer settings and a customizable EQ setting as well. It also has G-protection 1 & 2 for non-skip playback. Other great features are digital bass, timers, shuffle, programmable playlists, power save, digital am/fm reciever with tv and local weather alerts, and much more.

I was only looking for a good portable cd player with an fm/am radio so I can have something to listen to while I was working.....but never expected to find THIS!

It is well worth the price. And I don't think you have to worry about the SonicStage software having Sony's spy programs hidden in it (as another reviewer stated) since they have been sued and ordered to stop including it in their pre-recorded consumer bought cds a while back.

Buy this player and let the fun begin.

I got this item because it has AM/FM/Weather bands. The AM can be tough to get indoors, but it's basically the same problem I have with AM on any device. The FM reception is great and so are the TV bands. I also love that it only takes 1 AA battery. I listen to audiobooks a lot and this has proven to be a great machine.

Despite the specs listed, the CD player itself is quite lightweight and not very bulky. The display, although not backlit, is very handy for MP3 discs which often have more than 150 songs to sift through. Separate folders for different albums are easy to browse on the display. Sound quality on the earphones is quite sharp and high quality with enough bass for the casual listener. Battery life is fairly long considering there's only a single AA battery to run from. Radio/TV tuners could be better, so consider other CD players if that's an important feature you're looking for.

The two main drawbacks are that the package comes with ONLY the CD player, earphones, and software -- no DC adapter included! Also, there are no playback options, i.e. no options to repeat one, repeat all, or shuffle.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and I'm sure I'll be keeping this CD player around for a long time!
