Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Sony's DAV-DX250 home theater system gives you everything you need to turn your living room your own personal cinema befitting of today's demanding surround sound Hollywood blockbusters. It features a 5-disc progressive scan DVD player/changer with an integrated receiver that provides 1,000 watts of total system power output, and a six-speaker, 5.1 surround sound system--one subwoofer with 6.25-inch driver, one center channel, two front floor-standing satellites (which measure 43.5 inches tall), and two rear satellites. It also offers Dolby Digital, DTS, and Pro Logic II processing for surround sound from DVD, VHS, and stereo sources.

The 5-disc DVD player/changer is compatible with a wide range of disc formats, including standard music CDs, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, as well as MP3 audio files and JPEG image files. Other features include a 12-bit, 108 MHz DAC (digital to analog converter) and three play modes (shuffle, program, repeat). Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive detects image changes at the pixel level versus other types that detect image changes at the scan line level. Separate algorithms are used to process the moving and still parts of an image to achieve sharper backgrounds and moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.

This set of compact speakers are designed using precision crossover assemblies to ensure that all speakers blend and recreate a seamless soundstage. TodayÕs discrete digital surround formats are able to reproduce the same sound throughout every speaker. If a variance in speaker drivers, crossover settings, or driver material occurs from one speaker to the next, the pitch and surround illusion can suffer. Sony speakers are designed using matching driver compliments and crossovers to ensure perfect blending.

The integrated receiver/amplifier features a 6-channel amplifier (143 watts x 5, plus 285 watts for subwoofer), sleep timer, Bass Boost functionality, and AM/FM digital tuner with 30 total available presets. It provides the following connections:

  • Composite Video Out: 1
  • S-Video Out: 1
  • Component Video Out: 1 (Y/Pb/Pr)
  • Analog Audio Input: 1
  • Headphone: 1

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent system for around $400, April 14, 2006
This review is from: Integrated DVD System (Electronics)
This appears to be the same system Wal-Mart is currently selling for $394 (as of April 2006). It's a decent system, but like all the other Sony home theatre systems, the CD/DVD player is painfully s-l-o-w! Maybe Sony will fix this issue in next year's models?
