Not Very Good As per sony Standards,
This review is from: Sony DAV-FR9 5-Disc Progressive Scan DVD Dream System (Electronics)
I bought this one in First week of January. I kinda like it but it has some limitations. Sony could have made it a lot better than right now it is.
Here are some pros: 1. Styling of this system is perfect. 2. It's Slim and pretty decent. 3. 800 watt power that's pretty decent. 4. Sound quality is amazing. for the fact all speakars are 2 way so that makes it very good. 5. slot loading and illuminated sony logo makes it more attractive. 6. you can control output for individual speakars. cons: 1. It loads/changes DVDs very slow... also you can't unload/load a disc if you are playing one. even it's slow when you change tracks. 2. When function it set to an external source or FM/AM and you try to eject a disc it automatically swiches to DVD mode. 3. limited input source, you can only hook it with two external source. 4. Very sensitive lense and firmware : if your DVD is quite old and have some scraches, it will skip or stuck. (while my cyberhome DVD player plays same DVD without any problem) 5. DVD fast forward speed is just 2X while other systems provide upto 32X. Honestly over all this system is pretty good but very pricy for 799 or even 699. I bought it for 549 and I consider that as a fair price not a very good deal. if your focus is sounds quality and Styling and do not have much sace to keep big speakers, I would say go for it. but if you have space to keep little big speakars I would suggest ONKYO. NO doubt Sony is leader in making products those are very attractive, it is attractive you will fall in love with this system in first sight but DVD player is not very very functional and that takes off 2 stars out from rating.

Modern clean look - Sounds great!,

This review is from: Sony DAV-FR9 5-Disc Progressive Scan DVD Dream System (Electronics)
Decided on this system due to the high editorial review it received on cnet.com and those interested should check out that review. System sounds great especially with Dvds and has that modern, clean look. Wires are connected on the bottom of the towers and hidden from view. The 4 towers are identical so you have symmetry in the room. Looks real sharp now compared to the old system I had with wires hanging down from the walls and stands.
I'm happy with this purchase, would have liked the ability to change the bass/treble settings but the standard settings still sound great, you can choose a number of preset sounds. The style, looks, and sound make this a good buy. But it won't replace high end components. Decent volume levels especially with Dvds, I like it very loud at times. It' slow to load, and may have problems reading dirty dvds. I had one rented disc that had problems until I cleaned it, then it played fine. No issues with new Dvds or the ones I own. This is the first Sony product that I would consider buying again. My previous reviews on other products where not good.

I recently purchased this system, and I must say that I love it. The sound is incredible, and the system looks wonderful as part of a home theater setup. Set up was also very easy, and the DVD picture quality in excellent. All in all, I feel that this was an excellent purchase, but look around, it can be had for under $599.
