Good product but be careful!,

This product works and sounds very good! HOWEVER... There are no inputs to use which will allow you to hook up say a CableBox or TiVo which can do surround sound. So no optical or coax digital inputs. This means that the only way you will get true surround sound from this system is buy using the built in DVD player. So if you don't need ANY inputs, this would be 5 stars instead of 4. If you read the specification on this unit carefully, you will find no digital inputs, only left and right analog input (1 set). Unfortunately I did not, I just assumed that ANY surround sound system available these days would have digital inputs -- shame on me for not checking -- more shame on Sony for leaving this out. But hey, it's an inexpensive unit. As long as you buy it knowing this, you will be happy with it.

Great for the money - just one oversight.,

As many of the other reviewers mentioned below. This system does NOT have any additional optical input which means you cannot get 5.1 sound out of your cable box, Xbox or HD receiver.
If however what you are looking for is a great surround sound system suitable for a room of 15x15 or lesss this is a great choice. To clarify a few things that confused me below. ANY XBR series sony will work just fine with this. There is no such thing as an XBRV or XBRS The V and S series TVs from sony are the similar LCDs with different frames and processors. The XBR2 syncs perfectly. But for what it is worth, all that means is you can use a single remote to control your DVD player and TV at the same time. To add, if you are content with PRO-LOGIC suround sound (simulated surround sound based off of 2 channel stereo inputs) then you CAN use this system to connect to your VCR TV or other device with an analog input. It has this functionality. ALSO. - there is a 1/8" input on the front of the box suitable for playing your ipod. It just will not charge it. Regarding the DVD player and changer - it is plenty fast - takes about 10 seconds to swap discs. The upscaling to 1080i is great and the sound is fantastic. Our houde literally thunders with deep bass and really immerses you in the film. The DVD player has some other nice features too including the ability to search by scene and time stamp (a bit better than the standard DVD menu. you can also bookmark favorite scenes. The tuner works finee. Not the worlds greatest receiver but perfectly fine for the average user. So for me, the only downside is the lack of the optical input. It sure would have been nice - 2 would have been even better. MAJOR oversight by Sony, but for the most part, the HD channels and anything broadcast does not have 5.1 ANYWAY. So if you can live with playing your sbox in stereo or using the pro-logic function to utilize all 5 speakers - then this is a great system for the money. The wireless set ups is easy. Infrared transmitter and receiver are realtively small and easy to mount or set on furniture. The rear spears require their own amplifier so it does require one 120v outlet and yes the rear speakers need to connect to the amp. People that are complaining about this not truly being wireless are out of their minds. Literally, yes it is not COMPLETELY wireless, but in order to achiteve that each speaker woudl require its OWN amp (making it bigger) and they would have to be battery powered (which would suck). So get over it. It's as wireless as technology allows and its great to not have to run wires across the living room to the rear set. All in all I give it 4 of 5 for the missing optical inputs and the lack of EQ. What do you expect for $350?

good sound quality but lacks some much needed functions,

This review is from: Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W Theater System with Wireless Speaker Kit (Electronics)
This is my first home theater system. I enjoyed watching movies on our 46" LCD, not because of the big screen, but the rich sound from this home theater system. Comparing with AMC theaters, this BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W is just as good or even better. At the beginning, the subwoofer may sound too much bass for first time users like me, but after a few times, I really appreciate the rich sound it added.
However, the system does not have digital audio input, so you can not feed high quality sound from HD TV or HD-DVD. Also it does not have ipod or USB port, which many other systems have. You will end up spending a lot of money buying accessories and have them littering all over the otherwise neat bedroom. The wireless rear speakers saved me the headache to run wires across the room. The only problem is that it does not work with the remote. So you have to manually turn it off, which makes such an otherwise nice device look kind of cheap. Overall, I like the system and will not return it. But if you need the functions it lacks, you may want to think again.

This model includes the wireless rear speaker system. It is extremely easy to set up and the fidelity is very good. The five disk changer has been flawless and the features abound in all functions of this system. A fantastic system for the price. Compares or exceedes systems costing 4 or 5 times the price. If you don't have to have a "big" name system this is the one to purchase. Perfect integration with my Bravia XBR2 HDTV.

Not compatible with Sony Bravia "V" series XBR2 TV,

This review is from: Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W Theater System with Wireless Speaker Kit (Electronics)
Despite what a previous reviewer says about the Sony HDX267W home theater system being compatible with a Sony XBR2 HDTV, it is not compatible with the "V" series of XBR2 -- it is only compatible with the "S" series.
The Sony website mentions in the fine print: "When combined with a select number of BRAVIAź LCD televisions and other Sony audio and video products, control functions will also be transmitted via the HDMI cable." Of course, our BRAVIA XBR2 has HDMI input, but the "control functions" weren't transmitted via the HDMI cable because we have a "V" series XBR2. Sony's website fails to mention the HDX267W is only compatible with the BRAVIA "S" series which is a new, less expensive version of the XBR2 class. I bought a BRAVIA KDL-V**XBR2 eight months ago and thought it would be compatible with the HDX267W home theater system based on references to the BRAVIA XBR2. Before you buy this product, make sure you have a compatible Sony BRAVIA "S" series TV. Bear in mind "surround sound" works best in a room dedicated to "home theater" entertainment while playing DVDs with 5.1 or more channels. Although stereo cable TV can be converted to "surround sound," it doesn't really improve the sound experience in my opinion. If you swivel your TV, it likely will change the "surround sound" balance. Thank you Amazon for expeditiously allowing me to return the HDX267W for a full refund!

Great Sound!,

Sound is great and function is good with Sony TV. Only issue with the product is that the "wireless" speakers are not wireless. They run to a transformer in the rear of the room that is wireless. It does save running wires to the front of the room. Overall good.

Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W Theater System with Wireless Speaker Kit
I am very happy with the sound and video quality of this system. However I bought this to be a true wireless system. It is my own fault for apparently not researching it enough. I figured I would write a review to avoid others making the same mistake I made. For me I assumed that the wireless kit meant that there were no wires going to the 2 rear speakers. This is not the case there is a wireless portion that jumps from your entertainment center to a rear box which you then WIRE your 2 rear speakers to. You then have to have a spot where you can put this box. My wireless speaker kit is sitting in a drawer of my entertainment center because it would have made a larger mess of wires than just hard wiring it. Which is what I did in the end so I should have bought the non-wireless version for less money and been more satisfied. There are definitely rooms that this system would be nice for mine was just not one of them.

Had a Samsung system that decided to stop working and it was wireless. I found this Sony system and was wireless to rear speakers which is what I wanted. It is easy to setup and has HDMI. HDMI is Great for HD. I had it seup in 30 min this included taking out the Samsung system. Setup was easy and was watching dvd in HD with upscale in under 45 min. Would recommend to anyone that does not want to run speaker wires to the rear from the front.

New To Home Theater,

Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W Theater System with Wireless Speaker Kit
I recently purchased my first home theater system for a new Sony Bravia 40" LCD TV. I connected using an HDMI cable and was able to have this system up and running in a couple of hours. Anyone who has set up a sound system in the past would likely be able to do this one in a much shorter time. I imagine that pricier systems have much better sound quality, but if you are a first-time home theater buyer you will not be disappointed in the sound that this little system puts forth. The rear speakers DO have wires running to the amplifier, which I hid behind my sofa, but otherwise they are wireless. Calibrating the speakers was quick and easy and seems to have done a perfect job of creating "surround" sound. The sound is awesome, unbelievable, and just as good as if I were at the movies! Loading the 5-disc changer requires that you carefully read the instructions or you will be scratching your head, wondering why it won't work. And, oh, I am not a young techno-geek! I am a 68-year-old woman. I highly recommend the Sony DAV-HDX267W, especially if, like me, you have no experience with home theater.

mostly pointless,

This review is from: Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX267W Theater System with Wireless Speaker Kit (Electronics)
Just to clarify a previous post: Its wireless sound, however, every speaker has to be plugged into a power outlet, or another speaker, as is true with all wireless speakers. The sound quality is meh at best. Its certainly not "room filling" or in any way particularly excellent. The player is one step short of crappy. The upscaling is aweful. There is simply no reason to pay this much money for a set that is going to upscale. Get a player that plays 1080P (there are some at 220 right now, a comparable "upscaling" player would be under 100) a receiver (buy the cheapest one that comes with a remote, there fancy switchboards with equalizers, also under 100) and get a speaker set (again, getting repetitive, but great quality under 100). The setup was fairly easy, I don't see the complexity others mentioned in their posts. The sony-sony features are nice, and i do have a bravia, but if u dont, definately look elsewhere. If you are a constant "features" user, with too much money, seeking to streamline some boxes, this will do the task, otherwise, save some money for dvds and get something else.
