3.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you are a Macintosh user., April 19, 2008

This review is from: Sony DCR-DVD810 8GB Internal Memory DVD Handycam Camcorder + Deluxe Kit (Electronics)
I bought the Sony DCR DVD810 to take movies for personal use (vacations etc.). I have used two previous Canon minDV cameras with no problem transferring their content to my G5 iMac using OS 10.4.11 via iMovie/iDVD (the tape transport failed on both cameras so i was hoping to get away from tape).
The camcorder is full of features and i recorded some test stuff on both the build in memory and an an 8G memory card that i purchased separately. BTW: the 810 doesn't come w/ a disk to use for the disk recording so, if you care, be sure to purchase one at the time of sale.
Anyway: i had been worrying about format problems but they were not and issue because iMovie simply would not recognize that a camera was connected. I am a very experienced Mac user and tried everything they suggested and many things i just thought up to no avail.
The camcorder recognized that a USB connection had been made but it appears that Apple doesn't agree. I have read elsewhere that there may be a proprietary issue involving Apple's OS.
At any rate, the only reason i am writing this is to warn you other Mac users.
Incidentally, i think the touch screen on this machine really stinks. That may be because there are so many options or that i am an old fuddy-duddy that wants a standard menu interface.
For you non-Mac users tho, i have a feeling that this is a really good machine and will serve you PC users well.
