Good Sound, Good Features, Good Price,
By
This review is from: Sony DE441 Discman (Electronics)
I bought this Discman from Amazon a couple weeks ago as a birthday gift for my mother. I liked the price and it seemed to be of good quality. Once the Discman arrived, I presented it to my mother during a trip to the beach and I ended up listening to it for several hours throughout the trip.First off, I really liked the headphones. They were very comfortable and gave off good sound. Next, I found that the Discman had many useful features. The ESP was wonderful--it would not skip even when I tried to make it skip. I listened to it for about two hours of driving in a car, with it sitting on the seat, and it did not skip once. I even knocked on the top of it a couple times, gave it a few good jolts, to see if it would skip and it didn't even stutter. I also really liked the resume feature. If you turn the CD off in the middle of a song and leave that same CD in, then when you turn it back on, it will start up exactly where you left off. Not mindblowing, but nifty and somewhat handy. All in all, I found the Discman to be a great buy. (And my mom has come to love it as well, as soon as I actually let her use it.) The ESP is top quality, the sound is good, there are plenty of features, the headphones are comfortable, and the price is definitely right. Highly recommended.

Good but be wary,

Well i bought this discman from myer about 6 months ago. I loved it, I used it every day, and took it just about everywhere. But 6 months after i bought it it broke. The player still worked but the ESP was shot. So be very wary. But I LOVE those earphones coz they stay in your ear and give AWESOME bass. A good player but just be wary and expect the worst.

Skipping, but where are the Bumps?,
This review is from: Sony DE441 Discman (Electronics)
I bought this CD player, for what I thought was the best skip protection that was out there and great Sony sound. The sound was good and it did not skip at all..... For about 2 weeks. Then it would skip when I did not even hit a bump! and it got worse till I returned it and got another one (that was just the same) and it did the same thing! It makes me very upset, and i wish they would fix this problem.

Years ago, Sony made the best Discman there was. I had one from about 10 years ago that was great. It weighed a ton compared to this one, but the sound was immensely superior. I couldn't believe my ears when I hooked this one up to my stereo system through the line out, the sound was so thin. Not at all rich and full like my old unit. And the feel of this new one made me think it wouldn't last ten weeks, let alone ten years. Shame on Sony for cheapening down such a good product. I packed it up and took it back. And my brand-loyalty for Sony has taken a major hit.

This isn't at all a bad cd player. However, there IS a difference in sound quality between personal cd players, even among the Sony players. I had one of the original discman units from way back when. Whenever I compare it to this unit, it blows it away. This model pales in comparison against it's predecessor. My guess is that sony still has the capability to make a better player, but cutting the cost meant cutting out top quality. I recently purchased one of the newer units, one with Super ESP2 and a wider dynamic range...-MUCH more impressive. Still, not quite up to par with the older ones, but it's awfully close. ESP still has its problems, but for the sound quality I have found in this new unit (blue) it's worth the tradeoff. My point is this. Listen to a higher end sony, and a lower end unit. There is a cutoff somewhere and there can be a remarkable difference.

I like this CD player a lot. At only $, it is a very goodbuy. I saw it at Best Buy for $ and Amazon.com was much cheaper.Although the ESP works great, the sound does skip sometimes for no apparent reason. I recommend the other CD player by Sony with a headphone remote. But this is a very good buy.

I like mine a lot, it never skips on the bus or in my pocket even with esp off (i almost never use esp) it has great features, but i dont have time to do a full review and list them all. It reads scratched cd's and cd-r's well. The lid is a bit loose and it skips for no reason at all every once in a while. These are my only complaints. I've had it for about 4 months, and the skipping problems has gone away a little bit, and the lid hasn't gotten any looser.

The greatest thing about this player is its great sound quality. some people say there is no difference between the sound quality of similar discmans but there indeed is. The sound quality of this discman is absolutely superb, for example compare it to most (if not all ) Philips discmans and you will tell the difference. Some people complain about its durability OK, if you're gonna play football with this thing, or if you enjoy abusing your disman, or if you enjoy testing a machine's durability by throwing it around you won't be satisfied by any discmans in the market. but if you're a considerate user, this product will last i've been using mine for over a year, dropped it 15 times on various surfaces, spilt coke over it and it still works fine.

Perhaps the GSM breaks some IC?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony DE441 Discman (Electronics)
I'm a weeny bit dissapointed by this Discman. The italian packaging comes with a ridiculous pair of earphones but I already had a couple of good ones so that's not too much of a problem for me. The trouble is that it doesn't seem to withstand e.m. waves radiated from a GSM phone placed close to it. It's the second unit I change and after some time (notably after an interference from the GSM occoured during a previous playback) the CD just spins down for no particular reason shutting off the unit (that means that the unit could have just managed to survive prolonged vibrations or that it could have been left sitting peacefully on a desk!) Now, I will get another unit for replacement and stick it in a Faraday bag but the idea doesn't please me at all! Nevertheless, it's aeons better than a Thompson CD player I originally intended to buy, but still: looks too delicate and it could be the first victim of GSM e.m. transmissions!

I received this CD player about 4 years ago and it still is running good as new! I love the 2 bass levels(Mega Bass, and Groove) they really boom the comfortable headphones. It hasn't skipped at all. Even when it fell of the couch without the ESP2 on!(probably just luck)The only thing I am dissappointed with is the fact that it doesn't come with the optional remote that controlls the entire CD player:-( Not a big loss at all though. I recomend this to anyone looking for a Discman.
