A Great Buy!,

This review is from: Sony DEJ815 Silver CD Walkman (Electronics)
I spent a lot of time trying to decide whether to get the Sony DEJ815 CD Walkman or one of the other top-of-the-line discmans out there. After much consideration, I went with the DEJ815 and I haven't regretted it since. The pros of this little discman are endless-- I am very satisfied with it, it has never let me down in any area, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's considering buying a new discman. First of all, it looks great- very sleek, light and thin. The controls are well laid out. The sound is very good- especially with the Mega Bass. The headphones are a bit cheap, but those can easily be replaced. The backlit remote is convenient for controlling your discman while running. As for skipping- IT WON'T SKIP. I've shaken it, dropped it on the floor, jogged with it, and it has never skipped. I replaced the rechargeable batteries for a two-week trip with 2 normal AA batteries, and after playing 15+ full CDs on it, the battery was still full. With the rechargeable batteries it will last a few days, then can be charged back up to full within 2 hours, which saves a lot of money on batteries. The CD to MD text transfer is useful for me when I record on to my minidisc player, but most people don't need that feature. The included rubber carry case w/handle is great for use while jogging. As for the other popular discmans out there-- the DEJ915 has an impractical design, the DEJ611 is OK but does not match up to the DEJ815 in quality. I am very satisfied with this discman. I recommend spending the extra money on this one instead of buying a cheap one then having to replace it later when it breaks. It looks great, it sounds great, has long battery life and plenty of extras. Overall, it's a solid product and well worth the price.

Very Pleased,

Sony did a masterful job with this cd walkman. Aesthetically, its elegance is in its simplicity. Very light and flat. Controls are intuitive. The sound is excellent, especially with bass boost. I have no complaints about the earphones, as others seem to in these reviews. Remote control on the headphone cord is great. I have tried all types of music on the 815, and all sound crisp, clear, and certainly loud enough. Comes with AC adapter, rechargeable batteries, and rubbery carrying case with vecro strap which allows you to jog while carrying it. THIS THING WON'T SKIP! Tried tapping it at first, then shook it, then jumped on a trampoline with it...what more can you want? This is a reasonably-priced, beautiful product which I hope to use for many years.

After a long search, FINALLY a great CD player,

I just got the Sony D-EJ815 CD player for Christmas after spending a good few months deciding what kind of portable music player to get. I'm a college student so I'm always walking places and I like to take my music with me. I have a ton of MP3's and first thought to get an MP3 player, but they are pretty expensive, even for the low end ones, and also I couldn't play any of my cd's on them unless I wanted to rip all my cd music onto my computer. And I don't have that much room on my hard drive. So then I thought to get a minidisc player, which I could hook up to my computer and recorder my mp3s on to minidisc. The problem is that this technology isn't everywhere (i.e. sometimes it's hard to get minidiscs in a store but you can always order them online) and also the portable minidisc recorders cost an arm and a leg. So instead, I thought I'd get a really high quality cd player. My only hesitations were that 1) cd's skip more than minidisc players and mp3 players which are unskippable and 2) I couldn't access my mp3s. Well, luckily enough, I have been able to use my friend's cd burner, so that problem was solved. As far as skipping, Sony's G-protection really is unskippable for all intents and purposes. I bumped and shook my player for a good minute (not TOO hard) to try and get it to skip, with no success! Tomorrow I'm going jogging with it, and it comes with a cool holster to protect the player. Since I'm a poor college student, the rechargable batteries save me a lot of money, and it's INSANE battery life (76 hours off 2 alkaline AA's) is great since I use it every day. Here are my only complains: 1) The headphones are pretty ghetto. I don't have that great an ear, but I can tell they are kinda cheap. But more importantly, Sony makes the cord to the headphones short since the inline remote control cord is pretty long, but the headphone cord is SO short that I can't clip the remote to my belt or pocket, I have to clip it to my shirt! This wasn't too big a deal because I have another pair of headphones with a longer cord. So bottom line is you'll probably have to spring for new headphones. 2) No car kit. This site lists the cd player as coming with a car kit, but mine didn't. I thought I could use my old car kit, but I was wrong. The actual tape adapter that I have is universal, but my old cigarette lighter adapter from my retired cd player is 3 volt and the Sony requires 4.5 volts of juice. So I'll have to get me one of those to listen to it in the car. 3) As with any portable audio unit, I'd go ahead and get the extra service plan if the store you buy it from offers it. I don't know if Amazon does anything like that. The thing is, with portable electronics there are sometimes glitches that occur, and since everything is so small, it is rare that a unit can be repaired. Now adays they are basically made to be disposable once they stop working it seems. All in all, this is a great CD player. I looked at other companies like Aiwa, Sharp, Phillips, etc. but Sony seemed to be the best quality, and have all the features I was looking for. The rechargable batteries are great, and the carrying case with handstrap is cool, and the remote is off the heezy. You can tell this is a quality piece of equipment when you hold it in your hand. I've heard some people say Sony walkmans don't get loud enough, but all you have to do is switch the pointless AVS to the "off" position, and you can bust your eardrums. The 2 step bass boost is cool too. The sound quality is excellent, especially compared to my old school Fisher with 3-second anti-skip. And like I said before, there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING (I've checked) like the g-protection system on the market. Hope this review helped some!

Nothing but good things to say...,

Wow! That's the first word that enters my mind as i sit down to write this. The Sony D-EJ815 is a top-quality product. I guarantee even if you initially grimace at paying $140 for a Discman (sorry, CD Walkman) that when you hold this sleek little machine in your hands all your doubts will wash away. The player just feels high-quality. It has an aluminum lid and plastic body, giving it a weight that is light enough to be ignored when you are carrying it, but heavy enough that you aren't afraid you'll break it if you touch it too hard! A glance at the exterior as shown in the Amazon.com photo might lead you to believe that there are few features on this portable due to the apparent dearth of buttons. This is misleading, as I have compared it to similarly priced players from competitors and it has as many, if not more features than their portables do---and I like Sony's stylings a lot better. You've got bass boost, 64-track programming, minidisc link, lots of play modes, volume limiting system (though this is pretty useless if you ask me) and more. All these features along with basics like song selection and volume are accessable on the included remote, handy for just about any time you're listening to a CD. It has an LCD screen, comparable in quality and size to the one on the unit, which by the way is excellent. Both are backlit. As for the sound quality, it seems better than the two year old Sony D-E307CK that I'm replacing. My burned CDs sound cleaner on the new player when using the same set of headphones. Also, a great advantage the 815 has is its rechargable batteries: using my old discman for about 1.5 hours a day, I was going through four AAs a week. No longer. I can uncondtionally recommend this player, if you've got the money to spend. A great purchase.

Greatest Thing Ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony DEJ815 Silver CD Walkman (Electronics)
This CD player is the greatest thing I've ever owned. I spent a long time looking around at others, I had owned an older model and when it started skipping when I was walking with it, I knew it was time for a new one. So I researched and researched and finally found that this one was the best buy for the money. Sure, it's a little steep, but trust me, you can shell out a few more bucks for a better value CD player. This one is basically un-skippable. I shook the heck out of this thing and I didn't hear it skip once. The remote is a great asset, it is backlit, as is the LCD on the player itself, and you can access all the features on the main unit from the remote. It's a very easy to use design and is worth paying a few extra dollars. And the case that comes with this thing is excellent. It's a sort of soft leather and it has nice fabric on the inside that's sure to not scratch the player. It's got a handhold on the back so you can hold onto it while joggin, walking... whatever you're doing. And the battery life is amazing. Just have the 2 rechargable batteries in the player, and 4 more AA batteries in the tube-shaped case and you're set! 76 hours of battery life, WOW! That's amazing, really useful for long trips where you won't be able to charge the batteries. All in all, this thing was worth the money I paid for it, about 120 dollars. It's a superior model to other brands, and while some other Sony's might be a little nicer, this one cuts the cake for me, and it's gonna work for a long long time.

Best portable CD player you can find at it's price,

The Sony Walkman D-EJ815 is the best "Walkman" you can get for the price it holds. I has everything you need and more plus it is virtually "unskipable"(I haven't been able to make it skip). The only thing that makes me upset are the headphones, they feel like they were really badly made although the CD player itself feels like it well made. I plan to buy a really nice pair of headphones. I would definitly buy this CD player. I love it and I haven't even had it for more than a week. The best feature that it has is that the LCD display can be seen in the complete darkness. I think this model is better than the D-EJ915 because it has an LCD on the system itself and the 915 doesn't.

Great Player, but Is The Difficulty Worth It?,
By Matt (West Islip, New York USA) - See all my reviews

I got this player for my birthday and immediately loved it. There are very few flaws in this CD player, and they can easily be forgotten. However, I wasn't able to use the player much, because it broke 2 months after I opened it. Thanks to Sony's warranty, I got free parts and labor when I brought it to my local Sony repair center. However, more bad news came when the center didn't have the part I needed and it had to be shipped to the Sony Headquarters, delaying the process. After a couple of weeks I finally got my player back, after replacing the lazer. But I couldn't use it long, because I found that the man at the repair shop didn't fully screw the lid shut, and because of that, the plastic broke. Back to the Sony headquarters it went and stayed for an additional 2 weeks, before they finally mailed me back a new one. After all this trouble, I now have a wonderful CD player. Everything about the player is great, but I couldn't bring myself to give it 5 stars after all that trouble. Easily the best feature is the LCD Remote, which once you use, you will be unable to let go, I assure you. It is the greatest idea yet, and it works excellent. So, with all of my troubles aside, I highly reccomend this player. From all that I hear from people, these problems are not common, and I must have just gotten unlucky, so I highly reccomend you get this player. It is worth the money (and the time.)

Wonderful CD Player,
By Phil Dokas (Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony DEJ815 Silver CD Walkman (Electronics)
This cd player has virtually everything I've wanted in cd players. The LCD display is incredible - if it's plugged into an AC source the backlighting is always on and it's gorgeous. If it's running off batteries the backlighting stays on for 5 seconds after the last button you press. The lighting is even in the remote. The G-Protection works remarkably well. I've dropped it off tables and didn't notice at the time (I couldn't see it), I only realized when I turned and found it on the floor. It does skip if you shake it ridiculously hard on its side. While running I couldn't make it skip. My one and only complaint is that when releasing the lid, it doesn't pop up very much. And that's a trivial complaint. All in all, a great cd player.

A VERY GOOD CD PLAYER,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony DEJ815 Silver CD Walkman (Electronics)
This CD Player has everything you need, like a LCD dispay remote control, rechargeable batteries, and unlike the Sony 915 this one has a LCD display on the CD player itself,so if you happen to be in a car that doesn't have a CD player, you can use a cassette to cd player connection kit with no problem. Also you have very long battery life on this cd player and that helps when you go on long trips and dont have the time or the place to recharge the batteries. The only problem I had were the headphones,so I bought the foldable Sony MDR-A34L headphones, they give you more bass response and they sound much more crisp, loud and clear. All in all this is a great buy.
