Although I did not purchase this DVD Burner from amazon.com (got it at my local Electronics Retailer) I feel it is my duty to tell you call how great this product has been to me.
I am not one to deal with Computer Hardware much and have only just begun to get interested in modding and building computers, but installing this DVD Burner into my computer was really simple, and actually, alot of fun! Not only does it Burn DVDs at a pretty sufficient rate, it also comes bundled with Nero Suite software to let you rip dvds and make cool DVD menus (though quite a bit of them are "cheap" looking") The Hardware comes with replaceable faceplate and is really fun to mess around with. I would suggest this for anyone with a PC they are interested in upgrading.

Sony DRU-810A,
This review is from: Sony DRU-810A Internal Double/Dual Layer and Dual Format DVD Burner (Personal Computers)
I had owned an LG burner and from the time I got it, it never worked right. I must have made 60 or 70 coasters before I decided that it was'nt the media, it was the crappy LG brand burner. I was really afraid because there are so many burners on the market and all of them claim to be good, but as I found out with my LG experience, that is not always true.
My brother has an older model Sony burner and although his is slow, it has made a handful of coasters in the 5 years that he has owned it, so I took a chance and purchased the Sony DRU-810A. That was the best decision I could have made. I will never buy another brand burner other that Sony brand. I have had this burner about 7 or 8 months. I am a very heavy burner and I have not made one coaster. One thing I loved about my brother's Sony burner is that I could use any brand of media. The same thing is true of the DRU-810A. I don't have to worry about where the media was manufactured or who the maker is. This burner loves everything. I had looked at the Plextor brand, but I did'nt want to pay $100.00 and I looked at NEC brand, LiteOn, BenQ. etc., but I am so happy that I passed on them all and got the Sony. It burns super fast. Some people say that it is loud, but it's not loud to me. I got my burner from Tiger Direct for $50.00. My sister's computer came with a crappy LG brand burner too and for almost 2 years she has not been able to burn at all because she gets nothing but coasters too, so for Christmas I am buying her a Sony DUR-810A so she can finally burn some movies. For my money, this is the best burner bar none.

The model is fine.,

I make DVDs for my school, before this I had a Lite-on dvd burner which couldn't read cds. Then I bought a Magicspin which couldn't use DVDs. I finally bought this sony. It works fine for my needs. It makes about 15 DVDs in 20 mins. So I recomend Sony. Ans suggest not buying Magicspin and Lite-on. Unless you plan to have a dream team and have both in your PC. One to burn DVDs and one to burn CDs

Unpleasant surprises about Nero,
This review is from: Sony DRU-810A Internal Double/Dual Layer and Dual Format DVD Burner (Personal Computers)
I have no complaint about the unit, which installed easily and works well. I do, however, have beefs about Nero, which technically does fulfill its obligation to support the DVD drive, but only just barely. First, I discovered that there were conflicts between Nero and another driver I was using with a CD burner, so I had to de-install that. Then I found out (from Sony) that, if I want to rip a CD to mp3, I need to pay Nero extra $$ for a plug-in module! (Fortunately, freeware and shareware rippers are available on the internet.) Finally, I discovered that Nero supports ONLY the DVD player; I cannot use it to drive my CD burner without again paying Nero extra $$. In short, the makers of Nero have deliberately crippled this version of the program in order to extract more money from you. Be careful.

This is the fourth dvd burner that I have owned. I have this product for about a month now and actually use it, unlike most people I know. I had a liteon 1633S prior to this one that worked perfectly. The problem I had with the liteon is that it failed in less than a year. It may have been just a bad one but I wanted to try something else. PCWorld and a few other sites rated this sony highly, so I decided to give it a try. Since the plextor px-760a was rated highly also, I decided to buy it as a backup drive. Well, now I get to compare. The sony burns both single and dual layer disks faster and reads faster than the plextor even though the plextor has higher speed ratings. I tried burning with different types of disks to compare. Sony wins every time. Its funny I never thought to buy the sony before, because sony has a good track record with me. Anyhow, knowing what I know now, I wish I had two sonys instead. I really have nothing bad to say about this drive. It was better than expected.

This DVD burner has exceeded my expectations. Additionally the price was right including a rebate offer with my effective price lower than some no-name brands!

I think this is the best DVD burner that you could buy for the money.
It's fast, simpe to install, and the DVDs it burns are high quality. It also comes with Nero burning software. Nero won't pull movies off of encrypted DVDs, so you may want to download "DVD shrink" to copy the original DVD, and it automatically works with Nero to burn to a new DVD.

This is my first DVD Burner and the first time I used one of Amazons merchants. I had some concerns about ordering, but everything went very smoothly. Its a good way of purchasing a bargain and I'm very happy with the Sony DVD Burner.

Arrived as expected in good condition. I used Memorex 16x dvds and not a single one fried up. It burns a single dvd in less than 9 mins. I highly recommend it to everyone. It works great.
