Key Features

6x optical zoom

With 6x optical zoom, bring distant subjects closer for great outdoors, sports, and travel photos. The compact size makes it easy to take with you in a pocket, purse, or backpack.

720p MP4 HD Movie Mode

In 720p MP4 movie mode, the DSC-W670 shoots 1280 x 720 high definition movies at 30 fps, a standard format when working with a PC.1 Users will create high quality movies with full use of optical zoom in files small enough to transfer to compatible PC or Mac computer. Once transferred to your computer and connected to the internet, you can effortlessly upload your media to popular photo and video-sharing websites such as Photobucket and YouTube.

Sweep Panorama mode-up to 360°

Reach beyond the traditional wide angle lens, and capture more breathtaking shots with Sweep Panorama mode. Simply press the shutter button and sweep the camera in the desired direction and the camera continuously shoots at a high speed, then seamlessly stitches the images together with automatic position adjustment to create one stunning panoramic image. Available in wide and up to 360° full circle, the DSC-W670 can take a variety of panoramic shots. Now capturing wide landscapes is as easy as press and sweep.

16.1 Megapixel Image Sensor

A powerful 16.1 megapixel Super HAD CCD image sensor helps you capture gorgeous images with superb contrast and clarity down to the finest detail. With 16.1 megapixels, you can create stunning, photo-quality prints up to A3+ (13x19 inch) size, or crop your images and still come away with high resolution shots.

2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD display

Generous 2.7” (230K dots) Clear Photo™ LCD display features sharp, natural color that makes it easy to compose shots, read menus, and view photos, even in bright sunlight.

Intelligent Auto Mode

Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode thinks for you, recognizing scenes, lighting conditions, faces, and adjusts settings resulting in clear images, faces with natural skin tone and less blur. Take advantage of all the technology without leaving Auto mode. Kids on the playground, landscape shots, a beautiful flower or an indoor birthday party; all result in clear images without leaving auto mode.

Picture Effect for more expressive photos

Picture Effect adds a new level of expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits come to life by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes. Select camera models have up to nine different effects.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

Face Detection technology

Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends.

Smile Shutter technology

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/cat800/Sony/with_smileshutter_final._V140379385_.jpg

Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority andindicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can now be used together with Smile Shutter mode when the Intelligent Auto mode is on. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.

Anti-blink Function

It’s frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. The Anti-blink function works to help counter blinking and squinting. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot.

Soft Skin mode

Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot.

Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode

Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects 33 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera settings. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/cat800/Sony/with_naturalflash_final._V140379724_.jpg

Natural Flash

Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images.

Dynamic Range Optimizer

Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to help recover shadows and highlights. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees. DRO is particularly effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with a dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. DRO Plus allows for even greater optimization by analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing.

Self-Portrait Timer

Self-Portrait Timer helps take the guesswork out of self-portraits by utilizing Face Detection technology to recognize when your face enters the frame. Once the camera detects your face, it triggers a 2-second timer, and then snaps a picture.

Customer Reviews

The unit i recieved must have been defective.
ChrisMac12
On this camera I sometimes spend minutes taking like 10 to 20 pictures to have one turn out to not be completely blurry.

The picture quality is great, love the video too.

SHORT VERSION:
Working Pocket Camera for a low price, I would recommend this camera (especially if you are looking for a cheap digital camera). I would not purchase this camera to take on your honeymoon or a spring break adventure. It is not waterproof and doesn't seem very durable compared to other pocket cameras.
Still the camera works great.

LONG VERSION:

I've owned around 30 digital cameras from all different brands including: Nikon, Canon, Sony , Panasonic, Konica-Minolta. I use the Canon rebel series cameras the most, but like to have a pocket camera from time to time. I have stuck with mostly Canon cameras over the last 7 years. Nothing against any other company, I just have liked using Cannon. I take daily photographs for a children's summer camp for 11 weeks out of the year. I'm rough on cameras and usually get around 3 years or less out of most of my Canon Rebel Series cameras... but that is not what I am reviewing today....

I haven't bought a Sony camera in about 7 years or so - the last one was a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H5, which is 7.2 Mega pixel camera and not really a true pocket camera due to it's size....
Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 7.2MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilization Zoom

Anyway, I wasn't expecting much from this lightning deal camera, but for the price I decided to give it a try. I've only played around with this for a day, so I may update this review later on. (If I don't, assume I'm still pleased with this camera)

FIRST IMPRESSION:
When I first held the DSC-W670 I thought I had gotten what I paid for in a cheap camera.

I got this camera specifically to replace an old one and in anticipation of an international trip that would take us out of the country for three weeks ..... thru Greece, Turkey and Cyprus. Yes, very historical and photo worthy places! This was the ONLY camera we used and we shot over 800 photos. All but two were perfect - and the two that weren't were not the fault of the camera but of the operators......The battery held up well - we charged it only once a day and only with heavy use. The videos also came out well - better if you have a tripod but there is decent stabilization built in. Get extra memory cards if you want to take a lot of photos (over 1000) and can't download and reformat between shootings.

I'm not a camera geek & prefer to use point & shoot cameras. I've been using my daughter's Cybershot DSC-W50, but she'll be moving out soon so I decided to purchase this Cybershot for myself. It was a $79 lightning deal. So for the price point this is a good camera.

I haven't printed any photos yet, but have added them to my laptop & the web. The LCD screen is grainy & bothers me, but the photos have been okay. The flash seems to be overly bright, but does a great job of taking pics in a low light area. Most of my early pics were taken at night with low lighting. (update-I just discovered that the LCD screen is grainy because it's the default setting which saves battery life. To change Disp. Resolution, choose MENU, scroll to the Toolbox icon)

A few settings are easy to access, many more are accessed by using the menu button & scrolling through the various options.

Several memory cards can be used. Here's a list of the ones that will take still images, as well as, video:
Memory Stick PRO Duo Mark2
Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo
Memory Stick Micro (M2) Mark2
each of these need to be Class 4 or faster: SD memory card, SDHC memory card, microSD memory card, & microSDHC memory card

There is approx. 56MB on internal memory

There is an on-screen help manual.

This camera does not have the Carl Zeiss lens.

I uploaded a few photos that were taken in low light situations using the automatic setting.

I purchased the Case Logic DCB-302 Compact Case for Camera - Black which has room for the camera, USB cord, battery & extra memory card.

This camera was purchased to be carried in a small purse. It serves that purpose well but like so many of it's kind could use a view finder. Looking at the screen in the sun can cancel out the viewing area and you have no idea where you are aiming. The button to take the picture isn't the easiest that I have used. I do like the zoom and the picture quality is fine. It is small enough that I can carry it in a small purse but for my more serious photography I prefer my mid-size camera.

Sent it back it wouldn't communicate with my laptop. Sony told me this camera is sold only in Latin America and Canada.
Why did they send it to Amazon ??

This product seems designed to make photography simple, by deciding for you what settings to implement. Unfortunately, its decisions produced over-illuminated low-light shots, and mistimed shots as it waited for a subject to smile. It may be the right camera for some, but I had more difficulty getting a good shot out of it than with my previous cameras, or even my cell phone.

Thankfully, Amazon does returns with no quibbling.
