Bringing high-resolution audio and video performance to newly affordable prices, the Sony DVP-NS755V DVD player features high-end multichannel and stereo SACD playback in addition to accommodating DVD-Video, VCD, and MP3 CD-R/CD-RW. It even performs top-of-the-line progressive video scanning for seamless, flicker-free images when viewing on high-definition or HD-ready TVs.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVP-NS755V stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs through Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive de-interlacer (scanning) with 3:2 pulldown processing. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television, and two sets of each video output allow use in multiple rooms.

SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound (depending on the disc). Because the SACD signal is too high-resolution for the digital-to-analog converters in current surround receivers (and as an anti-piracy measure), the DVP-NS755V performs its own decoding of SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, SACD audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel SACD releases.

Likewise, you'll want an analog connection for enjoying stereo SACD programs--but if you're wiring for multichannel, be sure to have the bases covered. Built-in SACD bass management helps you tailor the output level of the ".1" LFE (low-frequency effects) channel to your system, as an appropriate level may differ from the output level appropriate for the Dolby Digital and DTS surround mixes found on DVD-Video discs.

A set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outputs route audio from SACDs as well as from Dolby Digital- and DTS-encoded DVDs to a compatible audio/video receiver. If you're not planning to use the SACD capability, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can also be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for a simpler connection to a compatible AV receiver (but be aware that digital-audio interconnects are not supplied).

If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: Sony's TV Virtual Surround (with four surround modes) simulates surround sound through two speakers--even the stereo speakers on a TV.

Precision Drive 2 provides a mechanism for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback due to imperfect, scratched, or warped discs. DVD resume memory kicks in whenever you stop a DVD. Later, when you come back to it, the player will pick up right where you left off before. The player holds resume points for up to 40 discs.

Other playback options include 10-second instant replay, quick set-up, DVD/CD Text, block noise reduction, a digital video enhancer, custom parental control memory for 40 discs, Advanced SmoothScan and SmoothSlow Modes, and multi-disc resume (for up to 40 discs).

What's in the Box DVD/SACD player, RMT-D147A remote control, two AA batteries, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, Sony Music multichannel SACD sampler, user's manual (English/French), registration card, "Welcome to the World of Super Audio CD" information sheet, Digital Cinema Sound information sheet, and warranty information.

4.0 out of 5 stars 6 Month Review of the product..., December 19, 2002
By

This review is from: Sony DVP NC80V/B DVD changer (Electronics)
I purchased this product about 6 months ago, as soon as it came out. I was on the market for a DVD player that provided the most "bang for the buck" and this one matched what I was looking for.

Picture Quality: Good (Interlace mode)
As I have yet to upgrade on my current TV to HDTV - I can't provide a useful information here on the progressive scan quality of the player but I've been pleased with the quality of interlace scan and once my TV is upgraged to HDTV, it'll be that much better.

Sound Quality: Excellent (Movie and Music)
One of the attractive features of this player is that it can play SACD which at this price is a huge plus and the sound quality on regular CDs and on movies will leave you amazed. To take advantage of the SACD feature, you should be running this through a good receiver. If not, you might not notice the details and the sound stage that it presents.

Remote: Good
The remote is intuitive and simple to use and if you've used other sony remote than you'll have no problems with this one. The remote provides all the feature that you need so there's no need for you to get up off the couch to play with a feature only available on the unit except to physically swap DVDs.

Feature: Excellent
One of the nice features that this player provides is the on-screen menu for it's mp3 player. It allows you to see the name of the song and displays exactly how you've burned your CD. If the name of the song is too long, it gets cut off on the screen - not a big deal. Initial load time for a movie or music is acceptable, not one of the fastest but faster than most. It's ability to play DVD, VCD, MP3, CD, CDR/W and SACD is a big plus for this unit that out shines many mass market DVD players.

Build: Good
The player is light and slim and the overall construction of the unit is decent. The buttons are hard and not as responsive on the unit but the remote handles all the feature. It doesn't have the high-end feel to it considering that it's the higher priced DVD player for the masses.

Overall: 4 1/2 Stars
Considering all the features that this player provides, it's definitely worth looking into and worth spending a little extra for. The SACD feature alone is worth the price if you're an audio fan and the picture/sound quality won't leave you disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS DISC PLAYER, June 28, 2003

The SONY DVP-NS755V is an outstanding disc player for the price. I have owned several DVD players in the past, beginning about 4 years ago (since I got into DVDs), but they have all been PANASONICs, this is my first experience with a SONY. First of all, the hook-up was easy and straight forward. Although this is a combination DVD player and SACD player, with multiple outputs, the hook-uo and set up was quick and went off without a hitch. Secondly, the picture quality is great, bar none. The sound on DVDs and CDs are excellent, I can not find any faults to list. Now for the real low down on this player. Although the hook-up options are numerous, you will need to use six high-quality RCA style analog jacks in order to listen to multi-channel SACD sound. Also, this player does have a pair of RCA jacks for devoted CD playback as well as analog DVD output. Then there is the fiber optic Toslink output in order to play the DVDs using an interna digital to analog decoder. All of these jacks cost a lot of money, and I found myself using about $240 worth of jacks to hook this DVD player up to my system. That $240 does include a high quality MONSTER CABLE componet video jact to transfer the video signals to the television. One could forego a set of devoted CD cables, and possibly buy a lower quaility video cable, but no matter how you hook this player up to your system, expect to spend at least $200 for cables.Having said all that, once this bad boy is all hooked up with the fiber optic cable and the multi channel cables, you will have a variety of options of decoding your precious CDs upon playback. Using some audiophile CDs of my favorite bands, I found that this player has extremely quick response times, great sonic quality, and a very wide dynamic range, (all the better to play JIMI HENDRIX). Now for the multichannel low down. The only reason why I even bought this player was to listen to PINK FLOYD DARK SIDE OF THE MOON in glorious multi-channel sound. Let me tell you, the experience of listening to multi-channel SACD is amazing, I can not even find the words to describe the experience. If for no other reason, you should consider this player for the multi-channel SACD playback capability alone. All of the other features are just icing on the cake.As a little footnote. It has to be remembered that to play multi-channel SACDs, you must have a receiver with at least six channel analog input, as well as six discreet amplifiers. For this purpose I used a SONY STR-DE895 (which I will rate in a separate review.)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Awesome Sony DVPNS755V, December 22, 2002

This is my first DVD player, and I couldn't be happier. The picture quality on our 32" Sony Trinitron monitor is superb, but what really blows me away is the sound. It has onboard Dolby Digital & DTS 5.1 channel decoders, and I have these connected to an A/V Reciever with 5.1 inputs and 5 channels of amplification at 100 watts each. With front and rear speakers, as well as a center speaker, the surround sound is incredible. The unit will also play Super Audio CD's (SACD), and three demo SACD's are included with the player. These not only sound out of this world, but along with the manual allow you to really tweak the system until you have everything just right from an audio standpoint. The onscreen menue allows for lots of customizing - you tell the DVD player the size, placement, and even the distance from the listening area of each speaker, exactly what you have in the system for amplification, the type of TV, and then the unit is optimized for your exact situation. It has all the outputs you could imagine including coaxial and optical digital, component video, line out video, and S-video outputs. I am using the S-video connection to the monitor with excellent results. You can adjust and cusomize both sound and picture to suit your personal taste. It would take the entire manual to give you the complete story on this remarkable piece of equipment, but it is an audio/video geek's dream machine.
