The DVP-NS300S also offers a host of audio enhancements, including Dolby Digital and DTS outputs that deliver 5.1-channel surround when connected to a compatible receiver. The unit also contains Digital Cinema Sound--which replicates the acoustic performance of Hollywood's greatest sound stages--and virtual surround for users who want to simulate 5.1-channel sound in a two-speaker setup. Parents will rest easy with the included parental lock feature, while everyone will appreciate the CD and DVD Text options, which displays artists, titles, and even jacket covers on the front panel and TV screen.
In addition to the component-video output, the DVP-NS300S offers an S-video output and two composite outputs, along with both an optical and coaxial digital output. Other features include instant replay, a quick setup function, and a multibrand remote control. And people with old DVDs and CDs needn't fret, as the player's Precision Drive 2 system reads discs that are in less-than-perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback.
What's in the Box

Great Picture!,
By William Bate (Reston, Virginia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS300S DVD Player (Silver) (Electronics)
I purchased this DVD player a few months ago along with the rest of my home theater system. I investigated every aspect of the player and compared it with others in the same price class. Without a doubt the Sony DVP-NS300S is superior. The Phillips and Panasonic do not produce quite the same, tight picture. Plus, I read that the Sony DVD players read scratched DVDs the best [just a note if you rent more than buy]. I'm not sure about the other review, but I have no trouble playing CD-Rs, but CD-RWs do not play.

Entry-level DVD Player from Sony Really Rocks,
By Luis A. Tiongson (Pasay City, Philippines) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS300S DVD Player (Silver) (Electronics)
What first attracted me about this player is its appearance. Slim, neat-looking and cool silver finish. Has several useful features which includes, Block Noise Reduction which improves the picture on screen, a very fine sound (96kHz 24Bit), component video output, digital outputs... At its price range, it surely has several flaws. Inability to play CD-Rs, MP3s.. lack of numeric keys on the remote and a noisy dvd/tray mechanism. What it lacks in features will surely be overwhelmingly compensated for by its outstanding picture and fine sound.

Quality Basic Player with Exceptional Laser Head,
By William (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS300S DVD Player (Silver) (Electronics)
I bought my DVD player to play DVD movies very well - ie. good picture, good sound. I didn't buy it to play 'copied' audio cd's, or MP3's so I dont care if this unit doesn't do that. There are DVD players out there that will do all that & more for the same price as this Sony - but at the end of the day ask yourself 'are they cutting corners to give me all that?'. The Sony is a stylish slim-line machine WHICH does the main job it was intended to - play dvd's (it does play purchased audio cd's, by the way). Ask yourself this question before buying your DVD Player - Is a machine with basic features but a quality laser important - or a machine with a mediocre laser and stacks of mostly unncessary features (eg. zoom) important?
