5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great DVD!
I just got it to use with my recently purchased 26" Sony Bravia HD TV. I bought the silver, because it is stacked above my HD Cable box which is also silver.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only lasted 7 months
After about 3-4 months we started having problems with the picture blanking out or color changing. Now at 7 months we're ready to throw it away and get a Blu ray. Movies just stop or the sreen goes blank. Must shut it down for a bit, then restart and sometimes it will continue. Can take the DVD out and it plays fine in another machine. We've had issues with other Sony...

I just got it to use with my recently purchased 26" Sony Bravia HD TV. I bought the silver, because it is stacked above my HD Cable box which is also silver.

I had to be creative and pilfered the isolating feet from an old, non working Laser Disc player. I attached 4 of them to the bottom of the new Sony DVD player using rubber cement tape and duct tape. I did this because, the cable box generates a huge amount of heat and the isolating feet on the DVD player are practicly flat.

This is one slick looking, easy to use and gorgeous DVD player. DVDs that would not play on my old DVD player, play just fine on it.

The picture is stunning and I am thrilled. It works so smoothly with my new Bravia as well. I doubt that I will ever buy a Blu Ray DVD, so I could not be happier with this one.

I only paid $9.95 (with free shipping) for the HDMI cable. I bought the Cables To Go.

Having just paid over $60 for an HDMI Cable by Monster, that I purchased at a Circuit City, I see no difference at all in the reception between both cables. I only bought the Monster Cable because I had returned the composite video cables to my cable company and needed an HDMI immediately. My choices, locally, were very limited.

I totally recommend this player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice DVD Player., May 25, 2008

This is a nice DVD player and plays a lot of different formats. The picture quality is definitely better than a regular DVD player, but it's not going to look like HD. It's slim with a decent remote control. Set up was easy. You need to buy the HDMI cable separately, and that was $10. Overall for $80, this is a good player. I will eventually get a blu-ray player once the prices are more reasonable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile Player, January 6, 2009

This review is from: Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Silver (Electronics)
When my 10-yr old RCA DVD player broke down, I needed a player that could play both DVDs and CDs. The Blu-Ray players do not play CDs. This Sony DVD player plays music CDs, MP3s, DVDs in several formats and recognizes photo jpegs on photo CDs. With an HDMI cable connection to an HD-TV, it upscales regular DVDs to near HD quality, 1080p. There is also an S-video connection for analog TVs and an optical output for surround sound systems. It is so slender, you hardly notice it on the shelf. I was thrilled when I inserted a Kodak photo CD and it began displaying a high resolution slide show of my photos on the TV with musical accompaniment through my surround sound system. Set up is easy with on-screen prompts. Sound and video quality are excellent and the player itself is silent in operation. The price was a bargain

Very impressed with the quality and simplicity of this Sony DVD player. I have any older Panasonic combo player (DVD/VHS) but was always disappointed in its lack luster video quality, darker images, and the confusing, hard to read remote, etc. This newer player has been a blessing and is now being used for all our DVD viewings. I only wish it also had a headphone jack & tuner to complete the package. Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player Silver

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!!!, October 3, 2008
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Silver (Electronics)
I was a bit leary of buying the Sony DVP-NS700H/S since the product is so inexpensive. The dvd player is exceptional, it's picture clarity and sound makes my old Sony DVD players obsolete. I have a Sony Bravia 46" XBR4 LCD TV which complements the player. The minute I connected the dvd player to my TV it automatically set itself. My old dvds look great and my new dvds look phenomenal, almost like watching a Blu-Ray disc. The 1080P upscaling really makes the picture come alive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product., July 5, 2008
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Silver (Electronics)
If you want something cheap and be closer to HD , this is the product, the image is awesome . This product will really upscale your image from 480I to your native TV resolution. Dont get confuse : this is no high definition .You can only obtain High definition with a HD/Blue ray player and a HD/Blue Ray disc , however it is and excellent option !

4.0 out of 5 stars Great player...awkward remote, September 20, 2008
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Silver (Electronics)
I am very pleased with the features and picture produced by this DVD player. The picture is crisp and clear when attached to my Samsung 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV. There are plenty of setup features as well. It's a slightly wider player than most, so if compact size is important to you, you might want to look at a different brand or model. I would have given it 5 stars, but the remote is not user friendly. It is rather diffcult to access commonly used functions on the tiny little buttons used for skip, next, play and pause. Most controllers have large buttons for these commonly used functions. Overall however I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend the player as a good quality upscaling unit. I noticed a significant difference in picture quality with this unit over my standard DVD player (using the HDMI connectors).

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony quality, under $100, November 10, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Silver (Electronics)
We got this DVD player to replace a very very old DVD player.

Our requirements for the purchase:
1. Under $100
2. Improved quality over our old DVD player
3. No bright electricity-wasting lights on the unit when it is off.

Overall I have been pleased with this unit. It is super quiet, and the picture quality is good. We have it connected to an old TV, so we are not wanting/expecting real HD quality. One of the features I like is that the unit is completely dark when its off. No weird lights that stay on even when the unit is turned off...this is a major plus since the DVD player lives in the bedroom (we tried a Philips DVD player, and the light was so bright that it would keep me awake). The picture quality is very good, and the remote is easy to use (it even controls our old Sony TV, so we only have to have one remote). Also, I like that the top of the case is silver...doesn't show up the dust as much as a black case!

That being said, here are the minor drawbacks I have found:
1. The unit is a bit slow to load up the menu when you put a new DVD in. This isn't a big deal, but I'm not sure why it takes so long.
2. The remote is not backlit.

4.0 out of 5 stars sony 1080p upsampling dvd palyer, October 27, 2008
This review is from: Sony DVP-NS700H/S 1080p Upscaling DVD Player, Silver (Electronics)
Not Blu-Ray definition ,by any means, but it adds some color and zing to standard DVDs upsampling to 1080p sized format.
I use it on Sony Bravia 120hz 1080p 46" HDTV. For the cheap price its fine. Until all DVDs transition to Blu-Ray
this is a nice little machine to view your DVDs. I can knit pick about little details of this player but why? Its under a $100. Played the Disney kids' DVD Brother Bear, the animation and color looked stunning.
