Unlike the other reviews, I haven't had any issues with it. I will admit it is slow ejecting and starting up, but no issues otherwise. I bought mine at costco as well and I have had mine for almost a year and havent run into any problems or issues. I went with sony because I consider it a good brand after my panasonic bit the dust after ten years. I hope this can last as long.

This is a review of the Sony DVP-NS611HP made in Malaysia NOT the similar Sony unit made in china and also occasionally carried by Costco.

You can expect more reliability issues for most things made in China. Manufacturers are there not because of the German like craftsmanship but because of government monetary policy and cheap labor. And (like Wall Street) other MFGs are doing it so I have to also in order to compete with low prices.

While I have never liked this series removal of the on/off LED and the slow "Welcome" on; this is a solid unit coming from Sony's long time Malaysian factory. That is where Sonys Blu Ray units are made at least in 2011. Not fond of the size reduced remote OK, but you can order or use earlier remotes.

No problems and works great for almost a year. It gets heavy usage.

If I see it back at Costco again I will buy two more - made in Malaysia.

Trusted brands and models are constantly shifting manufacturer to China. Reviews without a country of Origin are not that Helpful.

If you read above two reviews, they are absolutely right. I totally agree with them. Bought this player from Costco, as a replacement to our Toshiba bought earlier, thinking it is Sony and probably will be better. This one turned out to be worse, DVD's used to stop playing after few minutes that we played it. This started happening for all DVD's, even for the one's which work perfectly in our laptop's. Finally, returned this one today again. Complete waste of time! Sony or Costco people, remove it from your shelves and do not disappoint your customers.

This Upscaling DVD player is a piece of useless junk. I have never been so disappointed with Sony before but I am getting very disenchanted now. This player worked fine for a few days then the picture on the screen goes black in every 8-10 minutes then comes back after a few seconds. Nobody can watch DVD movies like this. I purchased a cheaper Toshiba Upscaling DVD player and the same disks play perfect on it without any glitch.

Shame on Sony for cutting corners and selling useless piece of cheap junk.

Don't waste your money on this piece of useless junk. I bought this and it worked OK for about 2 weeks and then it never worked right. It would only turn on when it felt like it. It was very temperamental. I finally threw it away after awhile. I have never had such a problem with a DVD payer before.

It is a cheap piece of junk. Stay away!
