5.0 out of 5 stars Vital filter for underwater photos with appropriate camera
This Sony VF-MP5K marine filter is either a UR-PRO, or the next best thing, and will restore the natural colors lost underwater due to the properties of water ("Roy G Biv" is the memory device we use to remember the order of "disappearing" colors as we go underwater- Red is the first, the UR-PRO "restores" this.) In good visibility...

5.0 out of 5 stars Vital filter for underwater photos with appropriate camera, February 27, 2003
This review is from: Sony Daylight Balance Under Water Filter for MPK-P5 (Electronics)
This Sony VF-MP5K marine filter is either a UR-PRO, or the next best thing, and will restore the natural colors lost underwater due to the properties of water ("Roy G Biv" is the memory device we use to remember the order of "disappearing" colors as we go underwater- Red is the first, the UR-PRO "restores" this.) In good visibility conditions, the filter will be good to at least 20 meters / 66 feet. The depth will diminish with decreased visibility, and this filter is NOT what you want for cold, turbid waters of, say, Northern California. But it works quite well in decent vis and tropical waters (but remove it and tuck it away if you are very shallow, 3 meters / 10 feet.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but Great, March 11, 2007

All my pictures' colors are restored, i took pictures at 21m depth, and the colors were very good, it was a sunny day at the Red Sea.

The problem is that it is expensive regarding the size and the simplicity of the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works, but Expensive, November 2, 2006

The filter does a good job of compensating for the loss of red, especially at moderate depths (30-60 feet). Deeper, where you end up using more artificial light, objects illuminated by strobes and flashlights end up looking too red. Also, the filter is a little dark so you end up losing either a couple f-stops or shutter speed settings making action shots more troublesome. Lastly, it is a little pricey for what seems to be a relatively simple product.

The product worked as discribed. Easy to remove and instal as needed. Images with the filter were a little dark for the most part, so a good dive light is recomended if you want brighter vivid pictures at depth. The light defuzer that comes with it does not work in the DSC-W80 housing. It looks like that housing has a defuzer already built in to it. All in all I'm happy with it, but the cost is a little exorbinate for what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have with the Marine Pak, January 18, 2007

I took pictures on my vacation with the filter and without and my pictures came out very clear with the filter. I could barely see anything on the pictures with the filter. If you purchase the Marine Pak this item is a must have. Amazon also sells the MarinePak and filter together as a package and I highly recommend you save more money and by the package.
