5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Ipod owners with Sony Receivers
I recently did a sound system upgrade with a Sony STR-DG720 7.1 reciever. It has a proprietary DOXport plug versus a USB 2.0 Which I would have preferred. However, the TDM-iP10 comes with 6 different adapter plates for ALL ipod designs, past and present. The most intersting feature of this unit is that once you plug your ipod in, you can use your reciever's remote...

3.0 out of 5 stars No support for video nor for iPod menu browsing, December 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP10) (Electronics)
This product is fine as an audio product that can send your iPod music through a DMPORT on your receiver, however, it does not function as advertised. Both Sony and Amazon claim on their web sites that you can browse your iPod onscreen with this device. After failing in my attempts to accomplish this, I contacted Sony support and they now insist that this product actually CANNOT do this. Instead they said I must purchase the TDM-iP1 for this functionality. I am in the process of trying to get a refund and then purchase the other Sony product. If you don't care about browsing the iPod menu on your TV then this product is fine for your purely audio needs.

Addendum:
I have subsequently seen on CNET a somewhat unfavorable review for Sony's other DMPORT iPod cradle (TDM-iP1), so I'm going to stick with my TDM-iP10. If you can accept that it does not have the advertised capability to browse your iPod on your TV, it is otherwise a very useful product. It allows me to use my Sony Receiver remote to control my iPod, and it's really quite amazing how fabulous compressed MP3s on an iPod can sound through a nice surround sound system. I wish Sony would make their advertising for this product more accurate, but other than that it's a fine product and easily worth the price if you have a nice surround sound setup to use it with.

The most intersting feature of this unit is that once you plug your ipod in, you can use your reciever's remote control to select, skip, pause, play on your ipod without touching it. Also, a digital signal is going from the ipod bottom plug so the signal is more clear versus using the head phone top jack. This is a must for anyone that has a Sony receiever and an ipod!

4.0 out of 5 stars iPod Cradle, July 11, 2009

This review is from: Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP10) (Electronics)
I've had it for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it. It works very well with my Sony HT-SS2300 Home Theater System and I can use the remote control to scroll thru my music on my iPod. You can't see the iPod menu on the T.V screen but I have seen some other models that do and I was not impressed, the menus looked old and out dated as if you were looking at an Atari system from the 80's. So if you just want to listen to music from your iPod it is worth it to buy this Cradle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great for iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.1 and Sony HT-CT150, December 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP10) (Electronics)
I contemplated buying this item based upon the reviews, but I was extremely surprised at how well the device worked with my iPhone 3GS currently with iOS 4.1 running. I have it mated with the Sony HT-CT150 Sound Bar.

As previously mentioned, when you mount your iphone into the cradle, you immediately receive the message about the accessory not being supported on your iPhone. Just accept it and move on.

Now for the good news:

- Charging still worked.
- Playing music through the sound bar, the real purpose, works and sounds great!

Now for the great news:

- The remote control for the Sony HT-CT150 controls the iPhone. You can use the remote to pause, play, forward, rewind, skip ahead/back, browse your playlist, and select songs.
- I was very happy based upon lowered expectations!

All of my expectations were met. Again, you get the warning message, but all of the key features are supported.

Good luck!

This iPod cradle comes with the Sony DAV-HDX275, and other models. It does what you expected to and does it well. It plays your iPod on your dmport equipped device. You can use the basic functions with the remote, which is nice. This is the perfect add-on to a stereo system, but it lacks a very basic feature to a home-theater. Their is no on-screen display, which would of been very helpful if the ipod itself is on the other side of the room and you can't read the damn screen. If you do like on-screen display, and video playback as well, and willing to pay few extra bucks, I suggest the upgraded model, the TDM-ip50 (I think?). It looks the same, expect for a button. The build of the product is nice. It seems sturdy, not something that would break if dropped, and feels like a expensive product. I was also impressed by how quickly it charges the ipod, even when in use. This was one of the quickest charging method I have used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as intended!!, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP10) (Electronics)
I purchased this item and within minutes plugged it to my Sony receiver. Ipod fits snug and no chance of falling off. It's nice that it charges the player as well. At first music sounded boomy, but once I read the manual that came w/ the dock it explained how to change the settings in the Ipod for better sound. It works great and it's a welcomed addition to my home theater.
Just make sure that you have a Sony receiver that supports DMP (Digital Media Port) plug.
I would recommend to all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony DMport cradle for ipod (Black, TDM-iP10), March 19, 2009

The item work perfectly with the Sony HT-SS2300 system with the DMport from the receiver. This cradle only work with the receiver that has a DMport (Digital Media port). If your receiver doesn't have the DMport, then it useless. It's a plug and play device with no function to set or buttons to press. The cradle is small and it didn't occupy much of the space. Sound wise is just perfect when output from my ipod touch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste money on an iPod Cradle, May 15, 2011
This review is from: Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP10) (Electronics)
I recently purchased the Sony STR-DN1010 receiver (awesome deal on clearance for $299) to replace my aging STR-DA555ES. After reading the hit-and-miss reviews of Sony's iPod Cradles, it is clear that the cradle is one product to avoid. For starters, they will never be updated, so there is no guarantee that they will work with a new iPod/iPhone/iPod Touch model. Second, the new Sony receivers now have a front panel USB port for an iPod, confirming no further support for iPod Cradles. A front panel USB port may be convenient, but it leaves you with the unsightly look of a USB cable (white with the iPod) sticking out of your receiver. So I decided to write this review to provide a better alternative, one that many people are not aware of. Many people have Wi-Fi networks at home, but not many are aware that an Apple Express Base Station can stream music from their computer to their stereo over their Wi-Fi network. Using the remote app for iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad, you can control your music from anywhere in the house. This solution gives you much better control of your music compared to the limited control options with the Sony Dock (or any Dock). The Apple Express Base Station also supports an optical digital connection to your receiver using a TOSLink-to-Mini cable (or a TOSLink-to-Mini adapter to convert an existing TOSLink cable. Found one on eBay for $2.79). This allows your receiver to handle the Digital-to-Analog conversion of your music, instead of the iPod handling the D/A conversion. An iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad running iOS 4.2 or later can also stream music or audio from apps (AOL Radio, Pandora, etc.) directly to an AirPort Express Base Station, without having to turn on your computer or buy a receiver that is internet-ready. The best feature of the AirPort Express Base Station is having multiple Base Stations around your house connected to all your stereos. A very inexpensive way to have a whole-house stereo system. Great for parties too. iTunes can stream music to one or all base stations around your house. You can turn on and off locations from your iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad. It works great for my wife and I because we have different tastes in music. She can stream music from her computer or iPod Touch, and I can stream my music from my computer or her iPod Touch. You can find many Express Base Stations used on eBay for about half the price of a new one. Far better than any iPod Cradle and you don't have to worry about it ever becoming outdated. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Product, December 21, 2010
This review is from: Sony Digital Media Port Cradle for iPod and MP3 Players (Black, TDM-iP10) (Electronics)
I hesitated to purchase this for the longest time because I had been using a 3.5 mm input via the SACD RCA inputs on the receiver (Sony STR-DH800) for Ipod playback. Now that I have this I'm kicking myself for having waited at all. The sound is absolutely amazing through my Fluance speakers and I couldn't be more pleased. I am very particular about the quality of my audio, so it was a rare choice to EVER use a 3.5 mm headphone input for stereo playback from the Ipod. This is how your music is meant to be heard! I primarily enjoy classical music, but all of my rock\electronic music sounded equally wonderful. You won't regret buying this if you want to utilize the full capabilities of your system.
