Excellent product - easy to use,

I've used this microphone with an Olympus DM-20 digital voice recorder in university lecturers with no problems at all. The recording quality is far superior to the microphone included with the Olympus voice recorder. Picks up the lecturer's voice clearly from the middle of the classroom, and even if they wander around. Obviously, if your lecturer is softly spoken it's best to record from the front, but no problem with normal speech volume levels.
Easy to use - just plug it in and press record. Highly recommended product.

The marketing of this mic suggests that it will pick up sounds across the room in a lecture hall. I bought it hoping that it would work for just that in my college classes. It is pathetic. Sitting on my desk about two feet from my mouth, it barely picks up the sound of my voice. I've had bad experiences with cheap mics in the sub $100 price range. So I'm paying more this time around with the Sony ECM MS957. I would reccomend not buying this one.

Great Mic!,

I'm a court stenographer and I use this microphone EVERY single day with my Olympus DS-4000 digital voice recorder as my backup recording. The only problems I've had is the wire is starting to fray (probably just from my winding/unwinding the cord every day). The audio quality has been great! Even when I am at large conference tables or in a courtroom, it picks up pretty far (obviously the closer it is to the source, the better the quality, though), but I've been pretty happy with this mic.
The person who wrote in about it not even picking up his own voice, try checking the recording feature on your source device -- I had my Olympus set on "dictation mode" and it DOES NOT pick up anything unless you're speaking directly into the mic. Just an idea...

Sony ECM-Z60 Superdirectional Recording Microphone,
This review is from: Sony ECM-Z60 Business Microphone with Foldable Mic Stand (Electronics)
I consider this Sony mic a real find. I was looking for a way to record lectures at a distance, and could not find anything that would be effective. When I bought this and tried it with my Sony digital recorder, the results were excellent. And, the price I paid through Amazon was a bargain as well. The mic is small enough that it easily fits in a shirt pocket or other convenient place.
Highly recommended for situations where you want to record at a distance.

Was curious about the other review (question),
This review is from: Sony ECM-Z60 Business Microphone with Foldable Mic Stand (Electronics)
I've been interested in purchasing this microphone, but read the other review with lots of interest and am now having second thoughts about buying it (especially since the microphone is almost twice the cost of the recorder itself).
Since there is no email address to reply to, I thought I put a message out asking whether or not the microphone sensistivity was properly selected. On the recorder, there is a high and low sensitivity selection (low for using the recording at a short distance - basically speaking right into the microphone, and high for recording sounds from a distance). Maybe the sensitivity when using the microphone was set to low, instead of high? That should cause the poor results mentioned in the review. If that was the case, switching to high should have produced better results. Thanks. |
