AT&T Service

The rounded clamshell Z310a feels comfortable in the hand and weighs just 3.2 ounces.
The Z310a operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more (requires additional service subscription).

Phone Features
The Z310a's 65,000-color, 128 x 160 display is housed under the front cover while the semi-transparent front of the clamshell sports a hidden display (measuring 96 x 64 pixels in monochrome) that can display time, caller information, and more. Located just above the outer display are unique disappearing backlit indicator icons that indicate battery and signal strength, message status, and multimedia status. The indicators fade away when not in use, leaving the phone's outer interface clean and sleek looking. The handset's VGA camera is housed on the front cover as well, just above the indicator icons. The Z310a uses an internal antenna--leaving nothing to snag or break off--and a five-way button just above the dial pad is used to control most of the phone's menus and features. Up/down buttons on the left side of the phone can be used for quick volume control and menu navigation. USB data and charging ports, as well as a headset port, are located on the phone's bottom edge.

The cover includes a monochrome display as well as backlit indicator icons that show battery and signal strength, message status, and multimedia status.
The Z310a's call list remembers most of your recent missed, received, and dialed calls. The phone also features a speakerphone for easy, hands-free talking. In addition to a vibrating alert, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones as well as MP3- and AAC-format ringers, allowing you to use portions of your favorite songs to alert you to incoming calls. There's even a bundled application that lets you mix your own ringtones with up to 16 tracks. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. Similarly, a ringer ID lets you assign ringtones to callers. Lastly, the phone also comes with conference call capabilities--an ideal feature for both business and leisure applications.

Because the Z310a is Bluetooth enabled, wireless communication headsets can be configured with the phone for total hands-free operation.

The phone comes with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the Z310a including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock with a timer and stopwatch. The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard. This means the phone can be used with the included Sony Ericsson Sync Station software, which lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks on your PC with the phone.

The built-in VGA camera captures stills and video to the phone's 14 MB of internal memory. Picture effects such as a night mode, white balance and brightness control, and a self-timer are also included. The Z310a allows for custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes to be set up to fit your personality. Java support is built into the Z310a, providing a gaming companion for both online and offline games. Games are downloadable via the Internet or you can use the handset's USB or Bluetooth data connections to load more games and files onto the phone.

Other features include:

  • Up to 1000 contact entries, each with five number fields
  • Mobile email and messaging via AOL/AIM, Yahoo!, and MSN
  • PIM functions including calendar, tasks, notes, alarm, calculator, stopwatch, and timer

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as all that, January 23, 2009
This review is from: Sony Ericcsson Z310a Pink Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I had a bad year with phones. 12 years owning a cell phone without a hitch and this past year I went through 3. Two - my fault - washed w/o paying attention. They were the sony walkman phones. Loved them. After that I went with a cheaper phone: The z310a. This one was stolen on Halloween.

I did love it. I don't use a phone a ton, I don't use it for pictures or for music. This did the job. I loved all the little doo-dads - the blinking lights. The fun ring tones. I loved the color and the hidden icons and things.

It's a bare bones phone - but it had everything I needed and worked. It didn't stay charged very long, but I kept it charging in the car when I was driving or hooked up when I was in the house. I'd get 2 days max out of it - without using it.

The sound quality was fine. I never had an issue with not knowing who I was talking to.

It does scratch, but I had it for three months and would throw it in my purse with all the other stuff and it only had one little scratch on it.

The camera was awful, but I've read other reviews that said if you turn it sideways, the pics come out fine. I'll have to try that.

As I mentioned - I had it stolen in October. I was waiting for the z750a to become available (refurbished), but I've given up on that happening. I did love this little phone and will happily get it again.

Ok phone. Not internet friendly!!! (comparing it to motorolas and nokias) Holds up to dropping on ground very well. Love the white, makes it easy to find in bag. Not very good games to download.

2.0 out of 5 stars This phone is my sunshine, my broken sunshine, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Sony Ericcsson Z310a Pink Phone (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I loved this phone with all my heart until one day the screen had a dark spot in the middle. After about two weeks the dark spot became a giant yellow sunshine of dead pixels. Texting? forget it. I can't see what I'm typing! Want to know who called? Have to call them back to see the number show up outside of the giant sunshine.
Additionally, the speaker phone really is the pits. It's hard to turn it on and you have to crank the volume to the top to hear it.
