Not exactly state of the art, but conservatively satisfying.,

Well, it arrived a day early, which is good on the delivery service the seller uses. The device itself could stand to be better described, I was under the impression it was a touchscreen device. It is instead a screen surrounded by a touchpad, much like the one at the base of many of the newest of Android phones, and on the Palm Pre phones. This however works VERY well! I expect that the bluetooth connectivity would be superior with Sony's own hardware, but it so far has done well in my limited use. I'll update this later as I've gotten to use them tied more. My phone is the T-mobile USA Samsung Vibrant. Currently running Android 2.1 Eclair.

The novelty of this device wore off after about 10 minutes.
It's not going to be anywhere near as useful as you probably are thinking. Half the applications to download, never really worked well, if at all. the battery life won't even get you through half a day. And the worst.... the "watch" is absolutely pathetic, it's a piece of Velcro you wrap around your wrist and attach via the belt clip, which puts the orientation of the "watch" face 90 degrees from the way you would read it. ABSOLUTELY STUPID PRODUCT AS IS. (not to mention the other method of using it as a watch, on your own band would require you to take your band apart at the pin every time to charge it (multiple times a day), since the pin to hold the watch face to the band totally blocks the charging port. Okay, I lied, that's not the worst... the worst is that due to the pathetic engineering design, the dang thing keeps falling off it's "clip", multiple times a day at the slightest bump... including today... when I completely lost the dang thing (didn't notice if fall off)... Less than 5 days owning this STUPID PoS... and I've lost nearly $100. DO NOT... let me repeat... DO NOT buy this item. Not for several more generations. I cannot believe that Sony would put out such an incredibly f'ed up product... makes me reconsider ever buying any future Sony product, if this is the type of quality they are trying to sell. Yes, it looks nice and beautifully glossy... that's about the only thing good about it. sorry to burst peoples bubbles. I too had so much high hopes... especially with the ability to create programs to interface between android and it... but this was ridiculous.

I bought this device only for one reason. "No more missed calls while your phone in the pocket". Luckily, it does the trick. It gives you helpful notification of the incoming calls, messages, etc. Also you can remotely navigate thru your music, which is really convenient.

Basic. Don't expect an iPod Nano.,

based on the reviews and research I did before I knew what I was getting and it works great.
If you are the kind of person constantly sliding your phone in and out of your pocket this helps alleviate that mess. It's just an accessory and by no means necessary. If you keep coming back to this device again and again then buy it. You won't regret it so long as you know it isn't an iPod Nano.

I really like the idea of having a system that can see incoming calls without having to take out your big bulky phone from your backpack. I mean the idea to leave your phone in your backpack and only need it to surf or do some work is great. I would have my bluetooth headset and see who's calling and just answer the phone, read my emails, read my text, all without having to take out your phone. This product is awesome if it works half of the time. I should have taken the advice from other reviewers and probably wait for 2nd version to come. I was able to sync it at least once or twice and was able to see incoming calls, control my music but that's all I was able to do. Then it would just loose connection and would have a hard time connecting to my phone again. Sony did have a firmware update and it did improve connection by 10 percent, the first half hour after the update. Then it would just not connect. The battery indicator on the unit seem to have full bar when you know it's not possible since you already have it on a full day. Then it just died making you place it on the charger again. Again, I should have waited.

Got this as I started biking and wanted to leave my phone in my backpack and check my LiveView for updates. Doesn't work on my HTC Thunderbolt (but didn't have real expectations as it's not on the supported devices list). I'm giving this review based on my experience with the Bluetooth setup, trying to get it paired and connected which can get you doubting yourself if you've ever setup BT before. The swipe action on the touchpad needs a hard swipe to make something happen. SE, what about user manuals? As a techie, was forced back to look for these but barely enough information. Hopefully a few updates will get this working for me.

I purchased this item under the pretense that it was a watch capable of controlling a few features of my smartphone while sustaining it's own battery life enough to at least make it through the day... I was very wrong. The battery life is no longer than roughly an hour and some change. The Velcro strap that comes with it fits poorly with the watch, meaning that it can pop off randomly (Imagine trying to find this thing when it comes off.. Happened to me.) during the day. Most of the time the watch is out of sync with the phone, requiring many attempts to actually get them to pair up. When they do finally pair, it doesn't take long for the watch to drop the sync once more, forcing you to repeat the process. All in all, I would not recommend it for it's price tag. Avoid the allure of getting a "tech-y" watch, it is a novelty at best.

It seems the theory of this is better than the practice. The unit is fine. It was received in good time, and good condition. It charges quickly. There were no instructions on how to assemble the strap. I figured it out though. Syncing seems a bit finicky. Where I was hoping this would shine would be the apps. Unfortunately those are wholly dependent on how good the author is. All in all the unit functions alright but apps selection is a bit lacking. I'd love to see a weather app push the temp/conditions to my wrist.

Even now, after about two weeks I get the same question every time: 'Why are you wearing two watches?'.
It's nice to show off the shiny black little box, strapped to your wrist and it's also nice to watch sonyericsson.com update everything from the android to LiveView and it is even nicer to keep my forearm busy. And, the tech is pretty neat. I like it. However, the analogue, my daughter's funny band and this other gadget stay. |
