3.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but a very good non-smart phone.
I bought this phone to replace a Moto Slver S7. The reception and voice quality on this phone is generally superior and the screen is very nice. The sliding parts feel sturdy and I doubt they will break any time soon. This phone is also surprisingly light weight given how sturdy it feels.

The phone does have two issues which are big negatives for me...

Incredible Phone!

I've owned several Motorola phones in the past and was hesitant to switch to a Sony Ericsson. Since I was going to be stuck with `this' phone for the next 2-years, I spent a good amount of time researching several phones (LG, Motorola, SE, Iphone, and Samsung) and found this one was prefect. CNET gives it a very high rating!! (BTW-I would have loved to get the IPhone but I didn't want to pay the extra monthly service charges the phone requires and as a `phone' it is quite large to carry around.)

I wanted a Slide Phone but not one that was too bulky & thick and also one that had a key-pad that would (1) last and (2) had numbers that were not too small. Surprisingly CNET reviewed several phones that did not meet those simple criteria.

While I waited for my phone to be delivered, I saw the previous reviews. I became very concerned about the choice I had made. Well, I have had this phone for 2 weeks and have not seen any of the problems the other reviewers listed. I bought a 4G M2 card and have loaded a good amount of music and images. The great thing is, the computer software is free on SE's site, where Motorola made you pay for theirs.

So, to say the least, I love this phone. I LOVE the walkman 'SensMe' feature, the fact you can shake the phone to shuffle or go to the next song, and you can lift or lower the phone to change the volume... Not to mention, for the size you get a great camera and AAC/MP3 player all in one! It's prefect! Also, if I want to add web-access, I can add it later but I am not committed to an additional monthly service plan like I would have been with the I-Phone. Honestly, the list of what I love goes on.

Also, I did send SE an e-mail suggesting they read the reviews on Amazon's site. SE also provides software upgrades for their phones so if there is an issue, hopefully they would fix it. I have received an e-mail back informing me they have not had those issues reported as of yet but would look into them.

I HIGHLY recommend this phone! And it easily deserves the 5-stars I have given it!!!

I bought this phone to replace a Moto Slver S7. The reception and voice quality on this phone is generally superior and the screen is very nice. The sliding parts feel sturdy and I doubt they will break any time soon. This phone is also surprisingly light weight given how sturdy it feels.

The phone does have two issues which are big negatives for me. The battery life is generally short. Perhaps I expect too much since the Slvr had such fantastic battery life, but charging my phone every 2-3 days or so is irritating. From what I gather this battery life is about as good as other phones that are available now, but it is still disappointing. The second issue is that the bluetooth is bothersome to turn off manually. I only use bluetooth when I'm in my car and this phone either leaves it on all the time or off all the time. In order to turn it on and off you must flip through 5 menus. (You can link a shortcut to the handsfree menu, but not to the bluetooth menu.)
=====
EDIT: The problem that I describe above does not actually exist. I decided to investigate this issue a few days after I wrote the review and it turns out that you can set a button to automatically turn the BT on and off. No menus or any of that mess. It's actually very convenient! I would add a star to this review if it were allowed.
======
Another odd thing is that they do not package an ear-bud or computer connection cable or memory card with the phone. I suppose that since I paid $.01 for the phone I cannot hold that against them.

4.0 out of 5 stars great phone, missing basic accessories, December 1, 2008

This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I switched from Verizon to ATT for roll-over minutes and free calls to my ATT landline. I like this phone b/c of the 3mp camera (although they could easily put 5 mp in a phone by now). I have a newborn and it's nice to always have a decent camera handy.

I also have a macbook, and with the bluetooth connection, transferring files is super easy. The reception is good, and the bluetooth also works well with my car (2006 G35 sedan), although, not as well as my older razr did.

The speakers on the phone are really good for such a small device. I put baby songs (the baby Coldplay and Baby U2 ensembles are worth buying) on it and put it in my baby's stroller for walks.

The FM radio is a nice touch, but the fact that you have to buy the headphones to use it is a major blunder by SE. They should include that with the phone, or better yet, put the antenna in the phone. I got the headphones for $8 online. I also bought a car charge and extra wall charger (I like to keep one at work and one at home) for $6 together, and a 4GB memory card for around $20. The proprietary memory stick is quite a bit more expensive than standard SDmirco cards, but still cheaper than they used to be.

So for 1 cent, plus about $40 in accessories, it's still a good deal.

Can anyone explain why the same phone costs $129 at ATT stores? I still haven't figured out the catch with buying on Amazon? Which is a good thing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice phone but definitely not great!, May 1, 2009
This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I recently upgraded from my old w810i to w760a. Found that the phone is pretty much same as w810 w/o any much upgrades...Definitely don't use GPS coz don't have data plan. So that upgrade doesn't matter me.

Goods:
1. Camera is better as always was
2. 3G capability
3. Navigator...those who don't have GPS but have data plan (i wouldn't like to have data plan unless i have iPhone)
4. better resolution

Bads:
1. Network - I used to get full signal with my old w810 at my home. Now with new 760 i no longer get full network. Also i have observed overall network strength has decreased at number of places. At places, some 10$ cheap nokia phone gives full network whereas my w760a doesn't...Haven't seen any noticeable change in dropped call but donno whether people have noticed it while reaching me...

2. Battery life - Compared to 810 battery life is half...My 810 used to last for 3/4 days for sure w/o much talking...But with same amount of talking my 760 doesn't even last 2 days...Also takes little longer to charge the full batter as compared to 810.

3. Memory card - I had sony's proprietary pro duo 2g card for 810. now its useless since they have changed the card format...its awful and i hate it...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice phone, bad software, bad backlight on the keypad, December 21, 2008

This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
the w760a rocks, it has nice red color, too bad the camera doesn't have focus; this makes the picture quality lose to another 2.0 MP camera with focus, for example w810
the features and the screen is nice... i like most of this phone features except:
1. the att software disabled many of the phone ability, such as ability to switch from 3G to GSM (3G EATs the battery really quick)
2 the SE shortcut button is replaced by the att button. In addition, the bad thing is sometimes u press the button while sliding the phone up. (u have to pay for the data usage! its not expensive though).
3. the ring tones cant use mp3 with size bigger than specific size and length, i don't remember exactly what the number is. its around 300 KB if im not wrong.
4. the keypad has defect on the backlight, i already check the att stores' phone and its the same. There is almost no light on keypad 9 and #, keypad 6 has half backlight.
the feeling when u press 123 with 456 and 789 and *0# are all different... 123 and *0# are similar

Also, the att is getting cheaper and cheaper everyday... they only give u the phone, a battery, a manual, and a charger! no memory card, no headset, usb cable, software cd, etc..

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, November 19, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
Best phone I have owned, has more features than I need. They must have fixed the problems the others are complaining about with the memory card because my phone only did this once and that was because the memory card was not properly lock in. Takes great pictures and is a very attractive phone. Wish it had more ring tones or at least better ones to choose from. You would think they would include the ear buds like the last Sony (810) I got. The phone was free so can't complain to much. Amazon is the best place to buy this phone, no problems what so ever.

3.0 out of 5 stars Speaker Sound poor not impressed at all., February 5, 2009
This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
sony W760 is not that great. For every feature of the phone you need special data package from ATT which is a rip off. GPS doesn't work without data service from ATT for example.

Keys are not a good feel - plastic feeling and its hard to realize you are entering any numbers. speaker phone is crappy or poor. cluttered menu - cant hide useless ATT icons cluttering the phone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Something wrong with software, November 3, 2008
This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
I am replacing my old Sony Ericsson with the red w760a and I have the same problem with this phone as I did with my older one. When I use the phone's recurrent alarm function, the screen on the phone starts to act weird like giving me a white screen or the screen is jumbled up with unreadable text. The screen will not go normal until it has been left alone for 15 minutes or has been turned off and on again. At first it's just when the set alarm goes off but later on it happens randomly when trying to make a call or receiving a call. I refuse to believe that it's a coincidence because this exact same problem occurred in my old Sony Ericsson. Either AT&T messed up the phone software or SE overlooked something crucial. Either way it is really inconvenient. Next time it happens I'll try to take a picture and post it up.

update: I have more issues to report on this phone. Now it seems every time I connect a bluetooth headset to the phone i can't hear anything at all. Like it goes mute. Even after disconnecting it from the bluetooth headset it stays mute and I can't hear anything and the other side can't hear a thing either. Amazon is sending me a replacement phone and their customer service is awesome. But I'm wondering if all SE from Amazon is bad. My last SE from was bad (my brother had the same phone from a local store and he has no issues) and now this is showing the same symptoms plus more. PS. the bluetooth headset worked just fine and then all of a sudden it started to go mute.

This phone works better, is better looking, and is easier to use than I expected or even could have imagined. I have never been any happier with a purchase than I am with this one. The images on the screen are unbelievably sharp, the sound is great, the keys are easy to use.

The price ($.01 with free shipping) wasn't hard to take, either.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great concept, major flaw, November 6, 2008
This review is from: Sony Ericsson W760a Phone, Red (AT&T) (Wireless Phone)
My mother and I both got this phone, mainly for the MP3 player. When we added a 4GB M2 memory card the phone became glitchy. Sometimes it would see the memory card and other times it would just say no file or memory card not installed. When connected to a data cable attached to my laptop it would not always show the memory card, would not let me transfer things saying memory card had stopped responding or would only show part of the memory card files. After going through three of them, I brought my laptop with me to the AT&T store to test another exchange. The assistant manager set up the phone and connected to the laptop. It did not show all the files so he disconnected and tried viewing them on the phone. Same error I kept getting, no files, no memory card installed, ect. I tried other memory cards to be sure it was not the card and the same thing happened. So they tried another one while I was at the store and it too was defective. The phone itself is great it just has a problem with the memory card interface. I hope they are able to correct this soon.
