This review is from: Sony Slim External Optical Drive for VAIO DRX-S70U-W (Black) (Personal Computers)
This drive looks great and it's quite compact, which makes it a good choice. HOWEVER, it does not work without external power and cannot run on USB power alone. This significantly restricts its usefulness as a DVD drive for a laptop. There are many good external drives out there that run on USB alone, so this is a dealbreaker.

Best external drive for any application,

I couldn't have been happier with my purchase. This drive has a solid metal housing which is amazingly slim. It looks like it can handle a good deal of abuse in a laptop bag. On the desktop, it looks slick and handles a wide variety of media and formats.
I searched for days to find this model. I wanted something which wouldn't fall apart. I also didn't want the hassle of trying to power it with multiple USB plugs i.e. I actually searched for a model which ran with an AC adapter since I have more AC sockets than USB sockets. Buy this. You won't go wrong.

A very good slim external drive that is compatible with 120 or 240 volts,

This is a quality external drive that is capable of working with both 120V and 240V electrical sockets. Sometimes, you will come across a laptop or computer that only has usb 1.0 ports. USB 1.0 ports will not provide enough power to run an external optical drive.
