4.0 out of 5 stars Dependable and CHEAP!
So you must be in the market for a microphone if you are reading this. Depending on what you want out of a mic, this might be a great bargain choice. I recently tested 30+ of these Sony F-V100 Mics and every single one worked--nice and clean sounding in a streamlined lightweight package.

Pros:
Price (Under $10)
Dependable--very durable
Good...

1.0 out of 5 stars poor quality, not even good to use as a toy!
I bought this to use as a second microphone for the kids' karaoke machine so two could sing together. I thought the "quality" of the sound wouldn't matter since I was just buying it to use it with my kids toy. Boy was I wrong. The kids fight over using the other one that came with the karaoke singing machine, which is far superior. This one is really a piece of crap...

Good audio quality
No on/off switch (less to break)
Lightweight (easy for kids to hold)
9.8 foot cord

Cons:
No on/off switch
Low volume for some uses
Mostly plastic build instead of metal

So if you are looking for an easy to use and durable mic on a budget, this should be exactly what you need. If you have requirements that do not amp the mic much, then you will need a more expensive mic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the $$, April 13, 2010

Purchased one of these for use with students and inexpensive DV camcorders. Works fine - sounds ok. What do you want for $10?! Is it a pro-quality mic? No, of course not - but it sure sounds much better than the on-camera microphone. Works like a charm and for my wallet.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is an OK mic for the price, March 8, 2010

I bought this mic about 5 years ago to use on my 4-track recorder. It works fine. On vocals, it sounds a bit muddy, but what do you expect from a sub $[...] mic. Close mic'ing a guitar amp sounds decent. I actually got great sound, but that's my opinion.

As far as the other reviews, I'm not sure about the low gain problems. It could be their system. Since I used mine through a 4-track recorder, I had a different setting where I had to turn a knob in order for me to use a microphone. So really the main culprit could be the system where you plug in the mic.

The problem is the thing doesn't come with a manual so one would think it's plug and play. Clearly it's not.

If you're wondering how it sounds, you can listen to a few songs I did back in 2005 using this little mic. The guitars were mic'ed through the amplifier at about an inch away from the speakers. The amplifier volume was at 45% because I had neighbors and I was recording at night.

Here's the link:

Four of the songs used the Sony mic:
- Won't Go Away
- Homesick
- Make Me Crawl
- Spit In Your Lemon Lime

Amazon did not allow my link so just go to [...] and look up artist Mario Gozum

I read some of these other reviews that stated that this mic was cheap and did not pick up sound very well. I should have paid attention, but it was cheap and it was from Sony so I figured how could I go wrong. Well the mic is a piece of junk and worthless to me. You have to cup your hand around the the end and with you mouth just a 1/2 inch from it's surface you have to shout for anything to be recorded at a near normal level. Perhaps this would be of some benefit for loud singing but for normal speaking level it is completely useless. It was cheap enough that I just wrote it off as the time and effort it would of taken to repackage and repost would not of been cost effective. Don't buy it. Spend a little more money and get something that works.

This review is from: Sony Omnidirectional Microphone (Electronics)
Sony Omnidirectional Microphone is smaller than usual one, its sound is so little whenever and whatever I adjust it to. It makes me so upset. It sucks. Don't buy it. Don't use it. It is made in china. I want to send it back to the seller for a refund or exchange of other kinds of microphone. Please help me solve it.

Sound was poor and didn't configure to the online karaoke site and was very difficult to get a spot where your sound would come through strong...it was weak!

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for., January 24, 2011
This review is from: Sony Omnidirectional Microphone (Electronics)
Can't really complain, it was £8.

Plugged it in to my Hifi and it is only audible if I cup my hands around it.
Plugged through a pre-amp first (I used a guitar amp) it is a lot better but the sound quality isn't brilliant.

Mostly plastic but not built terribly. If you can afford something better then don't get this.
