I am absolutely thrilled with this camera and could not be happier. The small size, easy menu navigation, easy use that is pretty much open LCD and point & shoot, audio quality, and excellent results are spectacular. As an entry level HD Video recorder I think this is the best place to start. The video quality under varied light conditions was great, stability was amazing (without zoom, then ranging from great to just decent at full 30X zoom). I actually have the midnight blue version and really like it. The color is almost black in indoor lighting, and shows more blue in the sun but is quite cool looking than your standard black, but very subtle.

RESULTS
I bought it right before leaving on vacation to Las Vegas. In lieu of a point and shoot snapshot camera, it offers a much more dynamic picture that is both easier without posing and waiting for smiles, much more natural, and more alive. In place of stopping to snap multiple pictures, we just popped open the LCD and started recording short segments to record short memories. Without a light, it got great results with indoor lighting conditions inside casinos and outside on the strip at night with all the lights. In bright light like outside in the day time the HD was most amazing and crisp. I would say the indoor looked more like almost TV quality SD and outside daytime was more of a true HD experience, and just in the default HD FX mode. I figured we should just start with what Sony figured the default should be, which I think was 1080i FX mode. Playing back later on my 52" HD LCD TV was excellent. Only a few dim scenes looked grainy, and the daytime outside scenes were really crisp. I was surprised at how good the audio quality was.

I bought this camera about 8 months ago. Since then I have recorded with it for 1 hour. The recording quality is great, mind you I am not a videographer.

The issue I have is that the automatic lens cover will not open any more.

I contacted Sony regarding the issue and they said that they will cover the cost of parts but not labor!!! I can't even begin to imagine the cost to fix it nor do I think that a product as expensive as this should only last for 8 months let alone 1 hour of actual recording.

Let me state that I baby my electronics to the point that friends and family make fun of me, so I can assure you the broken lens cover was not due to any mishandling of the product.

I believe that a company should stand by their craftsmanship, but it seems that Sony doesn't. So I want to warn people considering this camera as I once did.

Buy with caution or don't buy at all!!!!!

Thanks,
CMorris
