5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected
I originally bought an RCA 5.1 Home Theater setup for our new 50" Samsung LED DLP but was disappointed with the weak inputs, low max volume and hardwired speakers with cables that were too short.
Did more research and kept coming back to the Sony HTDDW795 for our needs.

Pros: subwoofer, and amp.

Cons: not for an amatuer, or a pro listener. I'd say beginner.

Story: The system is great especially for the cost. But not for continous use. I used the heck out of it for movies, day to day, and music. My speakers finally gave in; however the system/amp itself is strong and continues to push the new speakers I'm using,...

I originally bought an RCA 5.1 Home Theater setup for our new 50" Samsung LED DLP but was disappointed with the weak inputs, low max volume and hardwired speakers with cables that were too short.
Did more research and kept coming back to the Sony HTDDW795 for our needs.
Pros: Excellent sound for such small speakers (Dolby PL, PLII, DTS, etc supported), surprisingly good subwoofer, speakers are *not* hardwired, included wires are surprisingly long & useful, easy installation, one-touch basic audio setup selections.
Cons: Advanced menus more difficult to access/use, auto-calibrate has repeatedly refused to recognize/calibrate the rear surround sound speakers, no 3.1 setup (L, R, C, SW) if you don't want full 5.1 Surround Sound.
Aside from the minor (for me) cons, I'm very happy with this system and consider it an excellent value for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love IT!!!!, August 29, 2008
This review is from: Sony HTDDW795 800W 5.1 Channel Home Theater System (Electronics)
This system is fantastic and I feel like a lot of people opt for the HTD-DW790 because its cheaper and basically has the same features. Now anyone that does a little research will find why the price is so diffrent. First of all the picture on Amazon mis represents the system, the speakers are actually all the same size as the center speaker, i don't know why it is like this, so keep in mind every speaker is bigger on the DW795. Now the other BIG diffrence is the audio cables ARE NOT BUILT IN. This means if you need a longer cable there is no need to splice, this is great for people like me that move this system to diffrent rooms with me depending on if i get new tech.

CONS- the cons with this system are obvious lack of inputs on the back. it really stinks to only have three. I wish there were five or more. It dosn't effect me at the moment because i use a AV switcher but if i didn't have one then i'm sure the lack of inputs would be fustrating.

did i mention the cool remote and crystal clear sound. Granted this system dosn't sound as good as my other system which cost me 1000 but this system deffinatly does the job for movies, oo yeah i also upgraded the Sub, just used the one from the more expensive sound system it sounds awesome. that means that this system is really versitile so if you need to upgrade any part, speakers or sub the Reciever unit compensates really great. just beware with this much power you could definatly blow a circuit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Had JVC but Sony IS FANTASTIC !, January 28, 2010
This review is from: Sony HTDDW795 800W 5.1 Channel Home Theater System (Electronics)
PROS: more inputs then most which is selectable from remote. So I have laptop connected while I'm watching Nexflix on HDTV. Next using Toslink to do 5.1 surround sound from cable company dvr and 800 watts like being in the theater. Next using coxaial for Toshiba DVD recorder which didn't come with optical so great sound watching dvds.
Auto calabration has always worked fine for me which is the same input you can use to play Ipods, etc.
If you don't want to use optical from cable box you can also use optical from HDTV and then anything your watching will be 5.1 if supplied that way to TV.
Last AM/FM Tuner and great sound but it does need external antenna for best signal or maybe not if you live in like downtown NY.
SUb WOOFER can make the windows shake when movies have bombs exploding or a movie like "Top Gun" make sure it's 5.1 !
Cons: Hate to have to sell but need to move to warmer climate for health reasons!
