3.0 out of 5 stars Sony Under Cabinet Kitchen DVD,Radio,LCD TV
I recently purchased and installed this unit under a corner cabinet in the kitchen.. The fit was fine. The only disappointment I have is with with LCD screen and the adjustments. Most LCD screens are non-reflective. This one is not, and is affected by sunlight coming in the windows. This is not typical of a Sony Product, and is the reason I did not give it 5 stars. The...

After extensive research/cust reviews of this product, I chose this specifically for the highest quality of product available at this time.

I prepared my husband for a difficult installation process, & what seemed like a more bulky product, in comparison to the slimmer designs of other brands, but the larger screen, stereo speakers & Sony Quality won my purchase.

My husband agreed, "It was a PAIN" to install but "So WELL WORTH IT!"

If the dimentions or install hassles don't scare you away, I guarantee you'll be thrilled w/the product & performance!! The speakers blast w/quality stereo sound, making the extra "bulk" worth it.

My husband was so happy w/this gift, despite having to "modify" the screws to make them longer & the day & 1/2 it took to install it, because the finished product was worth the trouble to him at the end.

Should you decide to "risk" this product purchase, please feel free to email us for any hints or ways to sidestep the installing "hell", My husband was quite the "MacGyver"! & just remember, once it's over, it's OVER! Then you can enjoy a quality system in your home.

We recommend the product/system highly, but the dementions & installation process is not standard by ANY means.

Most LCD screens are non-reflective. This one is not, and is affected by sunlight coming in the windows. This is not typical of a Sony Product, and is the reason I did not give it 5 stars. The screen drop-down feature works well, as it allows you to move it up and out of the way when not in use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Install, December 27, 2005

This will not fit a standard cabinet well. Most cabinets are 12 inches deep, thats standard. With the cables sticking out the back this is easily 13 and a half inches deep. Unless you want it sticking out in front (looking bad) you have to cut into your drywall as I had to.

Also the width is misleading, when I bought this it was labeled as for 15 inch cabinets, when its 15 and 3/4 inches wide. Luckily our light rail bumped the width out far enough.

The bolts that come with it seem to be a metric size. I needed slightly longer ones to make the install work properly (again because of the light rail) but being metric they were impossible to find.

I ended up rigging it up by double laying the cabinet bottom with some 1x6 and boring into the actual cabinet bottom with a spade bit so my bolt head would sit lower.

I finally got it installed, and it looks nice, but man it was a pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Picture and Sound, August 31, 2006
This review is from: Sony ICF-DVD57TV Under the Cabinet LCD-TV / DVD / CD Clock Radio (Electronics)
We bought this to replace an older, CRT TV in our kitchen and have been extremely happy with it. More than I even thought we would. The picture quality is great and the fact it's a 9" vs most under cabinet TVs that are 7" makes a huge difference (that's nearly a 30% bigger screen). This is a bulkier unit than some, but that is because of the speakers and it makes a difference. The sound is amazing for a unit this size. The DVD has a great picture, plus it's a widescreen unit which is nice. The DVD keeps our little one entertained while we get her dinner ready. Both the FM and AM radio get great reception and that is due to an ingenious antennae built INTO the power cord, which is one less thing to worry about trying to find room for. Mounting wasn't nearly as hard as other reviews I've read (in fact I had it completely installed in about 10 minutes), but for standard 12" cabinets, it can stick out a little (in the front), but nothing grossly unattractive. I would suggest making your connections (cable or antennae) before actually securing to the cabinet instead of trying to screw in the coax with limited space in the rear. This unit is more expensive than some of the cheapo models, but the quality is there and in the long run you will save yourself headaches.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't fit, December 29, 2005

I wanted this to work out SO much! The last reviewer is right - it doesn't fit standard cabinets. What, exactly, does Sony expect us to do? I have tile behind my cabinets! Even if you allowed the tv to stick out an inch from the front, there is not enough clearance to bolt it in place. They made this too big.

Very Disapointed. Wait until a smaller version comes out - I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound and picture, August 19, 2006
This review is from: Sony ICF-DVD57TV Under the Cabinet LCD-TV / DVD / CD Clock Radio (Electronics)
This unit is a little to large to fit under a standard depth cabinet but fit under a corner cabinet with not problem. I picked this nit after comparing the picture and sound with the other available under cabinet unis. The sony is more expensie but a cut above in sound and picture quality. The sound and DVD/CD player are great. Radio reception is a little weak and I need to check with sony if there is a way to add an external antena.

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice til you go to try and install...., April 13, 2006

I don't understand how anyone could use this. Sony didn't consider standard cabinet sizes when they designed this?? There are 90 degree cables that you can get, but still the unit barely fits under our cabinets without any cables. Unless you mounted it in the corner or under a shelf that was extra deep, I wouldn't bother getting this. For the price, I want something that is convenient -- with the installation hassles, this was not. I ended up getting the RCA 9" tv -- it has an undercabint mount -- AND it's a lot cheaper.

3.0 out of 5 stars too bulky, February 6, 2006
This review is from: Sony ICF-DVD57TV Under the Cabinet LCD-TV / DVD / CD Clock Radio (Electronics)
The only problem I can see so far with this TV is its size. It does not fit under a standard size cabinet and installing it required some unorthodox methods. I am happy with everything else, but had I known that it would not fit I would have chosen a different product.

Installed it under a corner cabinet, took about 15 minutes to install. Plenty of room. In fact it took longer to clean out the cabinet than it did to install the TV. The unit is light enough that one person can easily install it. The picture and sound quality are excellent. We're very very pleased with our purchase.
A word of caution to those that are new to TV remotes in the kitchen, if you want the remotes to work trouble free, last a long time and stay clean, put them in a plastic see thru bag.

The radio tone is excellent. The TV picture also very good. I especially like how responsive the remote is---so easy to use. I use this every day very happily.
