What Is BRAVIA? Sony’s heritage places it at the forefront of technological advancement in every generation of television for the past 40 years. Sony’s newest brand, BRAVIA, introduces the next generation of LCD TVs that showcase Sony technological expertise. BRAVIA stands for "Best Resolution Audio Video Integrated Architecture" and five Sony high-definition flat-panel LCD TVs including the XBR and the 23" and 26" S-series LCDs will be the first models to carry the BRAVIA logo. How Is BRAVIA Different? BRAVIA brings three key advances to LCD televisions: larger color gamut, higher refresh rates, and televisions that automatically adjust to ambient light conditions. Sony’s Wide Color Cold Compact Florescent Light (WCG-CCFL) displays a color gamut almost 30% larger than a conventional CCFL display. The larger color gamut allows BRAVIA televisions to reproduce more faithfully the colors of real life using new spectrum phosphors to achieve deeper reds, more vivid greens, and cleaner blues. BRAVIA TVs using WCG-CCFL in concert with HDTV standards display an image that is far closer to what your eye would normally expect to see.

Super-Patterned Vertical Alignment BRAVIA televisions’ new Super-Patterned Vertical Alignment (S-PVA) panels divide pixels into more segments than was possible with PVA (Pattered Vertically Aligned) technology. These segments have an incredibly fast 8-millisecond response time that increases the television’s refresh rate. Dividing the pixel display into more segments also allows a cleaner break between dark and light pixels, improving viewing angles, color, and contrast. The diagram below demonstrates how, by increasing in the number of segments per sub-pixel from one to two, and increasing speed of refresh rate accordingly, picture quality can be achieved that can entirely eliminate flicker and bring the viewing experience to a whole new level.

BRAVIA televisions even feature LCD panels that automatically adjust to ambient light conditions to ensure the optimal image the entire time you’re watching. WCG-CCFL (Wide Color Gamut-Cold Cathode Fluorescent Light): Sony brings decades of television expertise and experience to LCD with a revolutionary backlight -- WCG-CCFL. New spectrum phosphors have been developed exclusively by Sony to deliver a very wide color Gamut that exceeds the color Gamut of ordinary CCFL backlights and produces true reds, vivid greens and vibrant blues. Images are reproduced with enhanced vibrancy and intensity resulting in an even greater sense of realism. Sony BRAVIA S-Series Like the BRAVIA XBR Group, the Sony BRAVIA S-Series uses the world’s first 7th generation Sony LCD panel. Specially crafted at the S-LCD plant, these panels are produced from the world’s biggest mother glass to efficiently create large, high quality panels. The 1 Mega Pixel HD Display (1366 x 768) that is used offers an astounding 178-degree viewing angle, very fast response times (8 ms total rise and fall time) and a spectacular contrast ratio. BRAVIA S-Series LCD televisions use a full-digital, 1-chip video processor for crisp and clear images. Several unique picture enhancement technologies are integrated into the processor to create better gradations and details, enhance contrast, dynamically improve color, and reduce image flicker. BRAVIA S-Series LCD televisions also offer the WEGA GATE user guide. You can easily change your settings or access your favorite TV channels by simply touching the WEGA GATE button on the Remote Control to activate the comprehensive graphic menu. Light Sensor Within every BRAVIA S-Series LCD television is an intelligent light sensor that adjusts the screen Brightness to match the ambient light in a room. The benefit to you is that the sensor makes your viewing experience more comfortable. In a dim room, for example, the screen automatically reduces Brightness. This "intelligent" adjustment results in a more satisfying television viewing experience. Freeze Function Sony’s Freeze Function allows you to freeze one screen while the other screen continues showing the program. Whether it’s the winning play, or a phone number that flashes too quickly across your screen, you can freeze it, and still keep up with what you’re watching. Simply touch the "Freeze" button on the Remote Control. It’s that simple. SRS TruSurround Audio TruSurround delivers a full and immersive Virtual Surround Sound experience from any twospeaker playback system using any multi-channel audio source. Six discrete channels of Digital audio are processed into just two channels and delivered over two speakers. If you are looking for a TV for your kitchen or small room, this is an great choice. We have this in our kitchen and love the quality picture and sound. This TV has all the features that you will need plus - sleep timer, freeze frames, wide screen mode, zoom, and more.

We hooked this TV up to a HDTV cable box and the picture is stunning when high definition TV is on. Analog TV is good, but clearly not as well presented as HD.

The one item I wish this TV had was the availability to accept a HD cable card to avoid the cable box.

Still, this is a great TV and a good price.

This TV has a good picture, but what you will not see is that it is a DC powered TV. So, you buy a low profile, flat screen TV only to have to find a place to mount the external transformer. Neither Sony nor Amazon mention this fact.

This tv has the most beautiful picture, even very up close, in HD. I have cable with an HD cable box. The color is beautiful, the picture unbelievably clear, and I have no regrets.
