5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, August 26, 2005
This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
SONY KLV23A10
Excellent! As usual Sony produces another fine TV & Monitor. "BUT" unfortunately I purchased my unit from "Sony Style" (presale) and as sometimes happens with Sony products they can be shipped with a major flaw. The warranty covered the repair. The unit could not be replaced with a new unit because "Sony Style" counts as the purchased date, the beginning of the thirty day warranty. Most stores will use the day of delivery the beginning of the thirty day warranty. It took over a month for the part to be delivered since the "KLV23A10" was new to the market. Sony followed the process dilengtly and are paying for the pick-up and delivery. The unit is now for the moment as far as I can see "PERFECT", with the usual excellent screen that Sony manufactures. My PC works well using the PC port. The other ports are fine and flexible for many external devices. What I like most is waking up to the news. The second timer is also very handy as a burglar alarm. After the wait and seeing the performance of the unit I still give it five stars. Warning! If you plan to buy a Sony product make sure everything is working as soon as you take it out of the box. (This inconvenience happened with another one of their products) As to their customer support I would give that five stars too. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value!, March 8, 2006

This is the first posting I've had on Amazon. So, this shows my satisfaction with the product. I purchased this LCD for our bedroom as a replacement for a broken CRT television. Shopping around, it was hard to find a better value. For the price point, you either have to jump up quite a bit to get a better quality/larger screen. Or, you go way down in quality and size. So, if you're looking to limit your purchase to under $1000, I think this is the best value! The prices out there are under $1000 for this TV because the market is pushing some of the newer models with better technology.

The quality on this set is better than all the ones I've compared. The only caveat for you is to make sure you have the right cables/splitters, etc when installing it. Try to find that out before you buy any of the newer TVs. Best of luck with your decision!

TV is excellent. Color, clarity, looks, sound...all best for this size LCD...even for regular cable. Has component plugs for highest quality DVD playback. I researched this size TV for months and this is hands down the finest 23"...bar none. The only fault is the remote...poorly placed controls...easily replaced. And given the price ($940 delivered at Amazon), this is an amazing deal. DVD movies are AWESOME...make sure you set up your DVD player to play on a widescreen TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I'm buying another!, December 9, 2005

This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
I talked my husband into buying me this tv for my birthday. I spend a good chunk of my time at my desk so I wanted a bigger lcd than my 19" monitor. I opted to replace my monitor with a tv because of the versatility. I can hook up game systems, watch tv, or surf the net all from my desk.

Anyone that buys an lcd always has worries. The first gen lcd's had some major issues and you always wonder if this one will too. So while I was excited waiting for my lcd from Amazon.com, I was also a bit skeptical. I took digital pictures of my 19" lcd monitor while a game was running, watching a d/l'd tv episode, and doing word processing and surfing.

The tv came and when I saw that huge screen I was one happy camper! My son helped me set everything up and away I went! I have to say it took me a while to get it adjusted juuuuuuuust right but once I did......OMG WOW! Crisp, clear, vivid, and stunning! I was blown away. I took pictures of this "monitor" while watching a tv show, playing a game, and doing word processing and surfing. Then I looked at the pics side by side and I couldn't believe the difference! It was like I was living in a cave!

So I've had my monitor/tv now for a month and a half. I enjoy it every single day for about 10 hours. So its absolutely getting a workout! I don't regret my decision to buy it at all. This is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made, so much so, that I will be buying my son one for Christmas.

The only minor issue I have is switching between pc, tv, and gaming. You use the controller, which sometimes is hard to find on my desk, and you bring up the Wegagate. You scroll through the menus till you get to the outputs. Then you need to remember which output each one is at which, for this techie grandma, can be hard to remember sometimes. But for an otherwise perfect purchase, I can suffer through that!

You won't regret purchasing this tv. Good job Sony!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!, May 29, 2006
This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
I had been saving up for a new tv for over a year and a half. I finally decided on the Sony KLVS23A10 23" TV. When I turned the set on, I was blown away by the clarity of the picture. This is my first HDTV and couldn't believe the detail of the picture. It was like I was looking at a 3D image. This set has four viewing options wide zoom, normal, full, and zoom. I personally prefer the wide zoom for movies because it brings the picture up close with minimal distortion.

The sound has three options dynamic, natural, and clear voice. I prefer dynamic. The first time I heard the sound on this set was when I was watching a movie, and there was a scene where water was dripping. The TruSurround was sooo goood that I had to check and see if it was raining outside.

I love my KLVS23A10 and would highly recommend it if you're in the market for a small sized HDTV with superior picture and sound. I can't wait to see football games on my new HDTV this fall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony on top of the world!, February 21, 2006
This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
I have tried the 19" Sony Wega (which was utterly delightful) before upgrading to this 23" within two weeks of my initial purchase, as I felt I had enough room for it after all. I am tickled pink. The picture on this TV is breathtaking and mesmerizing, like that of its smaller counterpart, only slighly bigger. Also, the sound is very good, although evidently it doesn't compare to the sound you would get in a big home theatre. What you get, though, is a picture that is second to none, so vivid, so sharp, especially when you view an HD broadcast, that it captures your eyes inescapably.

This one is a keeper. It is my new window on the world (check CTV travel and HD Discovery). Oh dear! I'm hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect!, December 12, 2005
This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
My siblings and I bought this TV for our 81 year old mom. After comparing models and prices, we settled on this 23" SONY, and she's very happy with it. Very clear picture; also fits and looks nice in a small living area.

Even with the $40 shipping charge, buying it Amazon was a very good deal. We also saved sales tax by having it shipped.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little expensive, but great quality, March 2, 2006
This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
I bought one of these for the bedroom. I imagine that most people who buy this will also buy it as a second or third set. I think as this is a higher end unit, most people would get a cheaper model with a bigger screen for their primary TV. Consequently, I am writing this review with this assumption.

First, this is a great unit. I haven't found a better picture on any other LCDs except perhaps the "V" series Bravias by Sony. However, I didn't think that the slight quality improvement was worth the 30% increase in the price. I compared this unit side by side with a Samsung unit and this was MUCH better picture quality wise (though the Samsung did have noticeably better contrast). Of the models in the store, this had the best picture.

However, I find that the widescreen aspect is a unfortunate. For now, I have no HD reception in my bedroom. In anycase, I think it's going to be a few years before more than 50% of broadcasts (including TV shows) will be made and/or broadcast in widescreen format. Until then, more than half of tv that you watch will be a compromise. For now, I'd rather watch the few shows broadcast in widescreen in letterbox and get to watch the 80% in full screen.

Unfortunately, very few LCD units now produced are made with the old 4:3 aspect ratio. For any manufacturers out there listening: We need more widescreen PC monitors and some more 4:3 aspect LCD TVs.

This model does not have all the bells and whistles as the more expensive models, but still produces a great picture. Very happy with this television. Excellent for both HDTV and Xbox 360.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as a PC monitor, January 9, 2006

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony WEGA KLV-S23A10 23-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel TV (Electronics)
Bought this TV from Amazon about 1 month ago. Sony was selling on sale at 1,199.00. Saved over $300, by purchasing from Amazon.

Pros -

Great as a PC monitor. It offers a very clear picture with excellent graphics and color.

Easy to flip from PC to TV or other audio inputs. You can customize the input function to delete any unused inputs, in order to make the switch quicker.

Cons -

I have the TV hooked to a satellite receiver box that does not accept HDMI or component video inputs, therefore, I'm stuck with the S-Video as the best possible option. Even with the S-Video, the picture appears out of focus, especially for fast moving action, from less than 3 feet away. It gets better the further away you are from the unit. This is the reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5.

Overall, I recommend this unit, especially if you are looking to use it a combination TV and PC monitor.
