The Best 32" TV without going HDTV or Plasma, January 2, 2004
This review is from: Sony KV 32FS100 - 32" WEGA CRT TV - silver (Electronics)
Okay - first of all, I don't know I'd buy the TV from an on-line retailer, because, the sucker weighs 170 pounds (yeah, that's right ONE-SEVEN-ZERO). You better like wherever the heck you install it, unless you're superman - moving it is going to be like throwing your brother around the room... But, once you get it where you want it - the picture, the sound, and the display are all pure SONY and excellent. I looked at alot of different 32" TV's before I bought this one. And yeah - with Sony you pay for the SONY brand-name... but, this TV is actually quite a bargain compared with others. In terms of picture quality, it is quite nice (I mean, without being HDTV - which is really unbelievably good). The "pan-and-scan" widescreen and the 16:9 compression are kind of neat features... If you watch alot of widescreen DVD's, this is a nice feature. Personally, I don't get all that bent out of shape by letterbox... but I know many do. I have SONY primarily as my audio/video... so it integrates well with older SONY stuff. The box is big - 35 inches as I recall (the measurements are in the descript). It fills up an entertainment center nicely. I would really make sure that your entertainment center is rated for the weight. If you are using some "put together" furniture (usually made out of MDF or pressboard) it is going to collapse under the TV's weight. SONY makes a nice stand for this TV (I don't have it - but I've seen it)... you might want that stand. When compared with Phillips(both the 4/3 and the widescreen), Toshiba, and JVC - this is probably the best in class. It looks great with Digital Cable (I have Comcast) and the component inputs are slick... makes the colors and the sharpness very vivid. SONY has a "digital enhancer" mode for various types of media (film, cable, etc.) I don't know if that really does much - seems to me to add artifacts to the screen so I don't use it... I leave it on VIVID myself... Anyways... you won't be disappointed for the bucks....

Fantastic TV., January 7, 2004
This review is from: Sony KV 32FS100 - 32" WEGA CRT TV - silver (Electronics)
I bought this TV to replace a 10 year old 27" Hitachi. I looked around at a bunch of other TV's ranging from 27" - 32" (including a 30" 16:9 format HDTV from Philips), and for the price this was the best. The picture is outstanding. I have digital cable coming through the S-Video input, and my DVD player through the Component Video input. Last night I watched "Signs" using the 16:9 Enhanced Mode (V-Compression) and I was floored. The picture is perfect. There is no need to spend the money on an HD set when for half the price you can get a picture as good as this. Even the Simulated Surround Sound is decent. I know that it is no substitute, but it will do until I can get a real thing. If I had to complain about something, I would ask for a button on the remote that switched to 16:9 mode instead of having to go thought the setup menu, but I can script a macro on my HT remote to do that. If you are planning on getting this unit, I would also recommend the TV stand from Bush. It is made for this set, and is (in my opinion) better then the Sony stand. It is a little taller, so the TV sits at eye level (when in a couch) and has more storage space in the cabinet. It is also a few bucks less.

A really great TV!, October 9, 2003

This review is from: Sony KV 32FS100 - 32" WEGA CRT TV - silver (Electronics)
I was recently looking for a new TV for my living room. Nothing too fancy needed (I'm still holding off on HDTV), just a TV with good picture quality, sound, and performance. I found all that in this Sony 32" TV, plus it had a good-looking exterior that was stylish without overpowering. I've only had this TV about a month, but so far I LOVE it! The pros: -The picture quality is beautiful, crisp, and clear. The settings are easy to adjust, and there are even special picture settings that are appropriate for Sports or Movies. Nice touch. -The sound quality is great! Big, bold sound, although it helped a lot when I configured my cable box to the optimal stereo volume level and used the TV remote for volume. -The flat screen definitely reduces a lot of glare from external lights/sun. It also makes it look super-sleek and stylish! -The price is really good for a TV of this size and quality! There is another Sony 32" flat-screen model exactly like this one, but it is at least $100 more expensive. Why? Because it has a picture-in-picture function. Unless you must have that feature, stick with this model and save yourself some money! The cons: -Warning: This TV is BIG. It weighs over 160 pounds, and you will not be able to lift this yourself. Also, since the speakers are on the sides of the TV, it makes it very wide. So wide, in fact, that my TV stand (designed to hold 36"-40" TVs) has only and inch or two of space left to spare! Measure your space before you buy this! (But hey, the width isn't such a bad thing. It kinda makes the TV look like a widescreen!) -Also, when I had this TV delivered, at first it was a little green on the bottom of the screen, and lines that were supposed to be horizontal on the screen were a bit diagonal and tilted. Fortunately, the green vanished in an hour and the TV has a setup menu function to correct the tilting issue. But those experiences lead me to believe that this TV can get out-of-whack pretty easily if jostled or moved around too much. Overall, this TV is amazing! Beautiful picture, great sound, and a nice exterior. This Sony shows that you don't have to pay outrageous prices for a really good quality TV. Enjoy!
