5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a home theater system
This is the best TV on the market today (w/ the exception of the XBR version). Whereas curved screens result in glare from light sources throughout the room, the flat screen virtually eliminates glare (unless you have a lamp right in front of the TV). When my new Sony WEGA XBR arrived and I turned it on I was speechless. At first glance, you will be generally impressed by the video and audio. However, give it some time. This is the best TV on the market today (w/ the exception of the XBR version). Whereas curved screens result in glare from light sources throughout the room, the flat screen virtually eliminates glare (unless you have a lamp right in front of the TV). Plus, you can fill your living room with friends for the game or a DVD, and you will still get a perfect picture from all angles. Try that with a projection-TV!

When my new Sony WEGA XBR arrived and I turned it on I was speechless. At first glance, you will be generally impressed by the video and audio. However, give it some time. Sooner or later you will begin seeing what seems to be digital (pixilation) artifacts on screen and in certain scenes, you will see distortion in both the vertical and horizontal axis. This is typically evidenced in closeup scenes that pan from left to right (wonderful ripples) and is especially annoying while watching a stock ticker crawl across the screen. And don't bother trying to watch a "Jeopardy" question. It will jump around the screen. This is NOT a $2,000 television. As a die-hard Sony fan, it came as a real shock to find that they are pushing this product out the factory door. Save your money and look elsewhere! So why am I so kind with three stars? I'm hoping a Sony rep will see this review and offer me my money back or at the very least give me a trade with a fully working model!

5.0 out of 5 stars Picture clarity stunning; weighs 250+ lbs., buy Sony stand, November 8, 1999

I'm losing sleep staying up to watch our 36KS10 TV! The picture clarity is stunning, as are the 4 video mode settings. I'd recommend getting the Sony stand, too. It is built for this TV (interlocks and buckles to TV) and can shoulder the 250+ lbs. this TV weighs. Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars what a way to relax...., April 12, 2000

Purchased this set about three weeks ago. Thankfully I have a 1 ton pickup truck and friends who like myself lift weights. This set is very heavy due to the fact that it's counterweighted as a result of the glass being extremely thick to accomodate the flat screen. I rent the packing box out as a condo. I'm a designer and fabricated an industrial steel and castered stand. [NOTE} this set does NOT have a carrying handle on the top. I figure I paid about 6.50/pound for this beast. About the price of fine aged cheddar. Kidding aside...add monster cable component video cables, a good dvd player and a high end stereo system and you will be hard pressed to ever go out to the movies again. I've not experienced any of the problems cited by others on this site. The image quality is the next best thing to HDTV. The onboard speakers/amp are dinky, so forgo the hookups, send the sound image to a good stereo receiver or amp and make sure you have voicemail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Home run!, November 29, 1999

With the exception of the XBR, this TV is the best tube that I have ever seen. It has all the right inputs and a picture that is truly amazing. The various picture modes really come in handy. I use one for cable TV, one for sports, one for VHS and one setting for DVD. If there were any gripe that I might make (besides the weight), it is that a TV of this caliber should have two coaxial inputs. Otherwise, 5 stars just isn't enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flat Screen Sony Monitor / TV, September 19, 1999

This review is from: Sony KV-36FS10 36" Wega Trinitron TV (Electronics)
Excellent Picture quality. Only issue I see is that it has several Video Modes - Std, Movie, Vivid and Sports. Even with the S-Video Input you see a loss of bandwidth in all modes except in the Movie mode. This is seen as char's that are hard to read when they are displayed from the DSS. This is a very minor problem. I would recommend this TV over a projection TV.

4.0 out of 5 stars That's one BIG TV, February 9, 2000
By
"kat74" (Wega Watcher, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony KV-36FS10 36" Wega Trinitron TV (Electronics)
Well, I finally did it, I finally bought a big TV. I chose the Sony Wega over similar RCA's and Panasonics primarily because the Sony is a truely flat non-projection TV. I had heard, and read, about serious geometry and convergence problems plaguing the Wegas. I noticed a minor convergence issue on the right side of my set that isn't even noticeable unless you're watching a DVD that has some print in that area. Even then it's not that obvious. I was the only person out of 15 who obvserved a slight blurriness to the letters in The Rock. Major buying points were component video in (you can't beat DVD picture quality with this), completely flat horizontal AND vertical, 4 video ins and a stereo out, and 240 pounds. Hey, someone could break in and take my DVD player and Dreamcast but my TV and my Dolby Digital receiver (50+ pounds) will be right where I left them.

Maybe I'll give it a 4.5 since it really impresses the guys, and made me buy some new furniture.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST BANG for the BUCK, August 3, 2000

This review is from: Sony KV-36FS10 36" Wega Trinitron TV (Electronics)
After looking at many TV's I came to the conclusion that HTDV was to expensive, and regular projection TV's could not compete with the brightness and picture quality of this TV.

The flat screen makes it great. The other large screen TV tube's had too much curvature and I found this distracting. I didn't want to be thinking about the shape of the picture tube, I wanted to be be enjoying the shows. While watching a movie on this TV at the store I became so engrossed in it that I stayed until the store closed.

Don't compare this to other tube TV's, compare this to projection TV's

I think you will agree that short of HDTV this is about the best TV made.

Also check out the smaller SONY flat screens, those are nice too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This TV will blow you away!, May 21, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony KV-36FS10 36" Wega Trinitron TV (Electronics)
Back in 1996, I purchased a 32-in. Sony Trinitron TV and fell in love. Last week, I brought home a Sony KV-36FS10 for about the same price--my, how times have changed!

Short of HDTV, I can't imagine a better television. This 36" beast delivers an incredible picture on its perfectly flat screen. So good, in fact, that I even find myself watching commercials I couldn't stand before. Don't get me wrong--I still don't like them, but by God, they sure do look good!

I'm also pleased with the sound output--much nicer than any other TV I've owned.

Only drawback is the weight--this behemoth is an incredible pain to move, and you'd better make sure you have a nice, sturdy TV stand (or maybe a huge concrete slab) to set it on.

Bottom line: Hook this bad-boy into a nice surround-sound set up, and you'll never need to visit the cinemas again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why you should get this TV, January 22, 2000
By
This review is from: Sony KV-36FS10 36" Wega Trinitron TV (Electronics)
This TV is one of the best TV's today. When i first bought it, i couldnt even fit it into my car, i had to wait 5 long agonizing for it to be delivered. It has extremely nice sharp crisp image quality, and excellent sound right out of the box. The setup on the TV is very intuitive and easy to use. One look at this TV and you will fall in love and know then that it was a small price to pay for the value you get in return. It's scary at first to shell out that much dough for a TV but the first time you see it sitting in your home, and you pop on a DVD or hook up your console game system (Dreamcast for me) and put in your favorite game, oh man, its heaven. And then you'll know why you did. You just can't find a better TV.
