5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed April 10, 2012
By Daniel
I work a job where I am limited on the amount of times I take my phone out. Our bosses do not care if we take a phone call here and there, but if we have our phone out, we can get in trouble. The Sony Smartwatch solved my problem. Instead of taking my phone out every time i get a message or text, I just look at my wrist and I know why my phone is vibrating (text message, email, message, facebook, etc.)

Battery life: it lasted only 1 day the first charge, but it got longer after that. This is expected with new batteries.
Phone used with: Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX 4G Android Phone, Black 32GB (Verizon Wireless)
*UPDATE - 04-12-2012 - I'm on my third day and the battery shows just under half.

Ease of use: Simple. You never need to sync it with your phone as it does all updates over bluetooth automatically. All apps you install on the Smartwatch are installed using your Google Play App Market. Once you install a Smartwatch application on your phone, it magically appears next time you connect it to your phone.

Connection to phone: Pair it to your Android phone for the first time, download the app it asks you to install, and every time you turn both your Smartwatch and the phone's bluetooth, it connects. At this point, any new information automatically is synced (notifications, new Smartwatch applications, etc).
I have had no problems in my first week with broken connections it is pretty solid with remaining connected. I lost connection once when I walked around 40 feet away from my phone with the Smartwatch.

OK... now for some more information and an update on my experience.
The Smartwatch DOES have two bugs/flaws.
1. After a few weeks of use, I have noticed the media player control widget does not always play nice. It WAS playing nice at first. Then Sony updated the widget and a problem started. This might be because I'm using the Google Play Music app instead of the Sony music player; however, it should not matter. I've had a bluetooth car FM transmitter with play/pause/previous/next buttons. Those bluetooth controls had no problems. The media player controls sometimes stops working if you have switched between 2 media player programs (Play Music and Pandora Radio). This of course means I take by phone out of my pocket and fiddle around with it. As soon as I turn on the phone screen, the SmartWatch media controls start working again. I do not know what the problem is. A future update to the media player widget will probably fix it.
2. Turn off your Smartwatch if the battery gets to red! It will simply lose power and need to be plugged in for about minutes before you can turn it back on. I thought my Smartwatch died on me! It did not: its battery was simply drained to zero and it needed a couple minutes of juice. Is this a flaw? Maybe not... I say it is since it freaked me out and brought me to think my Smartwatch died.

In short, NO IT'S NOT PERFECT. Am I happy with it? YES! It works pretty good and it CAN be updated. The more people that get this thing, the more it will be updated and also the more apps will be created for it. Be sure to shop around for the best price!

3.0 out of 5 stars So much better than Liveview, but not perfect. April 15, 2012
By Thanoa
I own the previous version of this watch and I can plainly say, this watch is so much better :)

This watch is currently paired to a Galaxy S 3

Pros
-Pairs well and Smartwatch applications are great so far
-Smartwatch wristband adapter included so you can use a better wristband
-Decent battery life (no 4 day though, I'm afraid)
-Potential for some serious app development and customizations
-Excellent & stylish bridge to your phone at wrist's convenience

Cons
-Included wristband is of awful quality
-Proprietary cable is slightly cumbersome for charging(should have remained micro usb, but oh well!)
-Should have retained led light for battery status/charging like previous model

Hope this was helpful and happy shopping :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as "Smart" as it appears September 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this watch on a whim; I had received an Amazon gift card that covered pretty much the entire cost of the device. That's the only reason I would spend so much money for what I consider a pure luxury.

That said, it is a nifty and useful device, though it really is a solution looking for a problem. Functionally, it works as advertised and not a single bit more. I'm on my third day with it and have only had to charge it once; the battery is still at about 80% so I have a feeling it will last a solid week or more. NOTE: The manual said to charge at least two hours before use, but I had to charge it overnight before it registered as fully charged. I have read other reviews that stated an initial battery life of less than a day, which improved after subsequent charges. I would strongly suggest ignoring that part of the manual and charging it completely before the first use.

The best thing about it is that I don't have to pull out my phone every time it vibrates. I tap the watch, scroll through whatever message is waiting and most of the time I go on with what I was doing. It has changed my social networking habits to the point that I'm becoming more of an observer than a participant, which suits my slightly introverted nature. Obviously that isn't for everyone, but I can also see value in an active person being able to stay on top of things and catch up on the actual phone later.

I've also enjoyed being able to use my own, very comfortable leather watch band. The included neoprene band looks good with active wear but it can get uncomfortable, especially when in a hot environment. Initially I was concerned about the plastic clip used to anchor the watch to the band, but in practice it is solid and foolproof.

I've been able to walk as far as 40 feet away and maintain a connection even in an office setting. Outdoors, I would imagine the range would be a bit higher. This may be due to my particular phone's Bluetooth hardware (I have a Samsung Nexus S 4G). One nice thing I realized too, is that I'll likely never forget my phone again. Once I do move out of range, the watch lets me know with an anxious rapid vibrating pattern and a "lost connection" graphic. This alone would be worth the price of entry for those who often leave their phone behind in public places. Combined with the "find my phone" feature, wherein the tap of an icon on the watch rings your phone constantly until you turn it off, it offers a great sense of security.

Now for the not so good. As I said before, this device does exactly what it advertises and no more. If you're looking for a stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-alarm professional chronograph, look elsewhere. Even a cheap Walmart bargain wristwatch has more time-related functions than this. As a timepiece you get the time, date and day and that's it. Though you could possibly use the calendar app to create custom alarms, that is a very clunky approach and I'm surprised that timekeeping functions haven't been added via app store updates.

There have been a lot of complaints about how dim the screen is. I find it to be more than adequate indoors, and still visible outdoors, though not with polarized sunglasses on of course. Likewise, many people have reported sync or connection issues even with their phone right next to the device. In the past three days I've used it, I only had one issue with that, and I narrowed it down to a partial crash of the host software on the phone.

Overall, if you're looking for a device that will replace your phone, you won't find it here. This is purely a dumb terminal with a GUI, barely more than an extension of the notification bar at the top of your phone's screen. If you truly want a wristwatch phone, there are a few out there, though sadly not for us CDMA Sprint and Verizon users. I do feel this device could benefit from a bit more interaction with the user; while you can send a canned response for SMS and retweet from the watch, for anything more complicated you must pull out your phone. This device is supposed to minimize that action, not complicate it.

Still, I am enjoying it and will continue to use it as long as I have an Android phone. Just weigh your needs versus wants before pulling the trigger.
