This micro cassette recorder has a built-in speaker and an earphone output for quick playback. The two-speed record/playback (1.2 or 2.4 centimeter per second) gives you the option of recording on a standard micro-cassette for twice its normal time. This is great for extended dictation or personal audio note taking. Powered by two AA batteries, the M-200MC is easy to use and perfect for students as well as professionals.

It's OK but not all of that.,
This review is from: Sony M-200MC Mic' N Micro Microcassette Recorder (Office Product)
This sony micro recorder works just fine for me. I use it for dictation and meetings mostly, from my school lectures, and I don't hear any static coming from it. With medium sounds around you it is still okay to use but you have to turn the volume up or down to muffle the sounds outside of your headphones. This machine does not work well however, when you are on the train with your headphones on trying to listen to your recordings. You have to turn the volume all the way up and even with that you better make sure you bring a good pair of batteries. Try to use noise cancellation headphones if you are going on the train with this product.

Shortly after I purchased this product, the earphone feature stopped working...had to play tapes back on a different recorder if I wanted to listen using earphones. Still used to record since it worked better than my other one to pick up voices in meetings, although not always very clearly; however now I find that it will suddenly just stop recording -as if the tape is stuck- and won't restart unless I tap the machine. Very stressful to have to keep an eye on it! (NOT a problem with the batteries!)

I have the same problem with this microcassette recorder. I bought mine two years ago and stuck with it, but I should have returned it. On playback, it is difficult to hear through the static (I use the recorder for interviews)...it's as if the machine is picking up its own noises. I've assumed that mine is defective, but then I haven't had experience with other similar recorders. I agree that this recorder is good only for dictation, with the mic close to your mouth.
