Comfortable, with fantastic bass!,

This review is from: Sony MDR-A35G Headphones (Electronics)
I bought these headphones for my MZ-R55 mini-disc player. What a great buy! They fit in anything when folded. The practicality of these things is excellent. I don't think SONY leaves out anything when they come to designing their products. They are even good to have when you are putting your mini-disc player away. You just pop them into the box or carrying pouch, all tucked away out of sight. This helps when you don't want to always be looking for them everywhere around the room or house. The sound in these little things is amazing. Best level of bass I ever had for replacement headphones of this kind. Mind you, my original pair are fine, but you never know when you will need an extra pair. One last thing. You'll agree, with the constand folding of these headphones, each time you put them on, they cling to your head more than before. It's good when you don't want them falling off your head while listening to a great song. Hope my review helps you.

Cheap breakable garbage,

If I had given these headphones a review two or three months ago, I definitely would have given them four or five stars--they've been my favorite headphones for years. Not necessarily because of the sound quality (quite passable but definitely not audiophile quality), but for the compact convenience of them: they fold up neatly and tightly and are easy to stow in a pocket or backpack. I've used these 'phones for years and they have always lasted many, many months until the wiring pulled out from the plug, usually through my own rough use. (A couple pairs on which I had the foresight to apply some precautionary electrical tape around the wire near the plug lasted for more than a year).
I haven't been able to find these headphones in retail stores for almost a year, so I was pleased when I noticed Amazon carried them. Several months ago I ordered a set and put it away for when I'd eventually wear out my old set. A couple weeks ago I at last switched to the new set, and two days after starting to use them, the headphones snapped in two at one of the folding joints--a problem I have never had with over a dozen pairs of these headphones before. Well, maybe that was user-error. I ordered two more sets and started using the first last week. It snapped in two the day before yesterday. The second pair snapped in two today. That can't be user error, that's faulty construction. I'm beginning to see why the bricks-and-mortar stores don't carry them anymore: I don't know what Sony has done in the process of the manufacture of these headphones, but they've changed them from my fave headphones to cheap breakable garbage. I won't be buying them again.

Left side went out,

I noticed a number of other reviews with the same problem, so I thought I might as well chime in. Yes, I have the same problem, namely the left side of the headphones went out after only 3 or 4 uses in the gym (there was no excessive or rough treatment of the headphones at all). My old headphones from about 8 years ago lasted for 8 years under the exact same conditions (until I accidentally snapped them)

Good headphones, not for everyone though,
By A Customer

These are a good set of headphones. They are ok at everything, great at nothing. Bass, midbass, treble are all average. Where these headphones standout is when working out, especially running. They allow you to hear just enough to make them safe but filter out most of the noise. But comfort is their biggest bonus. Earbud headphones falloff. Wrap-arounds leave your ears red and sore. Closed ear types absorb sweat, and look odd. These are the perfect compromise. They don't fall out, don't pinch your ear, and they have a canal for sweat to roll down and out of your ear. Bottom line, if you want library headphones look somewhere else. You want a workout set this is your model.

practical but not durable,

The quality of sound, especially the base, was wonderful. The collapsing headphones were extremely practical and slowed down the wear and tear of them in my backback, at the gym, etc. Nonetheless, after only 5 months, they were broken. This was not because of the collapsible section, but rather because of the rapid fraying of the part of the cord around the jack where the headphones are plugged in to the discman.

good for exercise,

I bought these about 6 months ago to replace my old in-ear headphones that I wore only in the gym. My old set (also Sony) would always get drops of sweat stuck in them - after that I had to take them off and blow into them forcefully to get the sweat out else they sounded terrible. Becasue of this I liked the idea that these were designed to keep sweat out.
Luckily they have a long cord (about 4 feet) so that I can put my player in my pocket and not have the cord pull out if I turn my head (I'm tall). They don't sound as good as other Sony headphones I've used, but they sound good enough for the gym. I listen to pretty loud music and they still sound decent at high volume. The sweat stays out of them pretty well - only about three times (out of over 100 uses) have they gotten a drop stuck in them (with the same result - very bad sound until you can get the sweat out). Once they had set on my desk for awhile and dried out, they worked same as before. There is a woman who runs on the treadmill next to me who uses the same headphones, and I've never seen her have any problem with them. I would recommend these as they are worth the price.

Used to be Great- Now they are Junk!,

WOW! I thought I was going crazy: I owned a pair of these headphone for more than 5 years- I traveled around the world three times with them working them everyday for confidence monitoring for video- never had a problem and always thought they sounded good for the price, lightweight, and fold-ability.
Finally, this year, I lost my original, 5+ year old pair. I went straight to Radio Shack for a new pair. Well, 4 DAYS LATER, they broke- snapped clean off at the temple joint as I was FOLDING THEM UP!! Because of my previous experience, I knew this was a fluke failure. To Radio Shack's credit, they gave me a new one. LESS THAN ONE WEEK LATER- same break- same place- and I had been EXTRA CAREFULL folding! Now I wish it was because of my increased gym visits- my finger muscles are just so ripped they destroy whatever they grasp- but I knew someting was up. I went back to Radio Shack and had to raise a stink. They came thru but I was made to feel like a liar. My THIRD PAIR broke THREE DAYS LATER on the TOP HINGE. Fed up, and knowing that RS would call the cops if I made another scene, I decided to repair the break with superglue and a crude paperclip hinge. This works OK but wouldn't you know it, THE VERY NEXT DAY the temple hinge snapped off!! I decided that before I went insane and smashed these evil, devil headphones to bits I would Google- just in case I wasn't crazy... I KNEW it- I knew I wasn't imagining things: something about these formerly great headphones has changed. Now they are flimsy pieces of junk ruining the day of many, many folks. Who knows a lawyer that will launch a Class Action suit? Torsion

Comfortable and convenient,

These 'phones are lightweight and comfortable to wear. The sound reproduction is first rate. The shape of the earbuds make it easy to listen in comfort for long stretches of time. And, of course, they fold up compactly.

Sweat!,
By
This review is from: Sony MDR-A35G Headphones (Electronics)
On my 4 mile jog this morning I was thinking I should come back and post a great review of how these headphones have worked so well. Then a big drop of sweat landed in my ear and created this popping noise everytime the earphone created a seal in my ear canal and then broke the seal. I had to take the headphones off for the last mile since it was too annoying.
This is my third pair of headphones in my quest for the perfect jogging headphones. I'm starting to think there is not a "perfect" set out there. These have come the closest of any. They stay in place which is huge. They sound OK. The sweat wasn't a problem until today (which was my 3rd time jogging with them). I guess I needed to point it out since they advertise a sweat guard mechanism. I sweat ALOT, so it doesn't surprise me that this feature doesn't work quite right. Maybe I sweat inside my ears?? For the price, I think these headphones are worth the attempt to see if they work for you and your excercise pursuits.

great sound and comfort!,

I have always preferred the vertical in-the-ear style headphones since they were first introduced in the late 80's. These headphones are very comfortable to wear for several hours at a time. You will barely feel them. That's great, but how do they sound? They have excellent frequency response at 10 - 23,000Hz, and great sensitivity at 108 dB/mW. You will get good bass out of the tiny 16mm drivers. They are also water resistant, so you can wear them while exercising or in the rain. They are designed so the moisture will run down the band and drip off the bottom. I highly recommend these portable (and foldable) headphones.
