4.0 out of 5 stars SONY DELIVERS
I was in search for a pair of cheap noise-reducing earphones to use for gaming or music on my PC. I wanted something lightweight and unobstructive and not too expensive. SONY, once more, delivered a good product at a fair price.

Checking out AMAZON reviews I was on the fence for either these (in black) or the Sennheiser CX300-B. There is a concerning number...

This review is from: Sony MDR-EX35LP/GV EX Style Headphones with Deep Bass Sound (Electronics)
i bought a pair of these based on some positive reviews and general high regard for sony products of this type, particularly at this price point. i was pretty happy with the sound quality and comfort (there is an echo-chamber effect if you fit them tightly into your ear, and they do transmit rustling sounds from the wire brushing against clothing, etc., but i mostly wore them outside and the street noise made that sort of thing a pretty negligible concern) for just under a month, at which point the left bud completely stopped working for no reason at all. are you kidding, sony? a month? the no-name pair of buds that came with my mp3 player SIX YEARS AGO were still working flawlessly when i lost them in april, despite some extremely rough handling, water exposure, days spent buried under ten pounds of junk at the bottom of my bag, etc. they weren't all colorful and squishy, but every time i plugged them in they gave it their all.

There is a concerning number of reviews on the SENNHEISER complaining about either low material durability and/or interference noises form the cables touching either clothes or surfaces. Since, in my case, the main cable was going to be in constant contact with my desk I decided not to risk it. And did not regret it for a moment.

The SONYs come with three sizes of hardened silicone ear-cones (medium is the one pre-installed) and they work fine in reducing external noise. You will be able to follow a conversation if muted but once the sound is working do not expect to be able to ...multitask (eg: listening to music and holding a conversation with your wife).
They fit easily and I did not experience any discomfort if used for long periods of time.

I am no extreme audiophile but the sound is comparable to my 2+1 set of Logitech Z-2300. The later is an important detail because they come with a remote volume control which has an earphones outlet. Since the total cable length is somewhat less than 4ft (1.2m), I would not be able to use them for my PC which stands on the floor if not for this remote.

The earphones are well built and so far experienced neither friction interference nor static discharges.

My only gripes:
- the earbuds cables are not of the around-the-neck type. I prefer those better because you can take them off and still keep them hanging around your neck without fishing for them later.
- the cable is thin but not flimsy. However, this is not true for the jack. It is remarkably smaller and harder to pull out than the older models I was used to.

Other than that,

RECOMMENDED.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony MDR-EX35LP/GV EX Style Headphones with Deep Bass Sound (Electronics)
This is my 3rd pair and don't understand why the left earbud is the only one that stops working. The 3rd pair didn't even last me a month. When they both work the sound quality is great but i think i need to go with a different brand now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Bass, December 9, 2009
This review is from: Sony MDR-EX35LP/GV EX Style Headphones with Deep Bass Sound (Electronics)
I was reluctant to buy these because of the one low review score, but I'm glad that I did. These headphones are very stylish and they sound great! The bass is there as promised by Sony. Keep in mind that is is not always the headphones that suck, sometimes it the device that the person is using with the headphones. I highly recommend these headphones. I have my pair on a white Zune 30gb, but I also tried them with a Sansa Clip and was blown away even more. But we all know that Sansa makes better MP3 players than Microsoft. Overall I'm enjoying my purchase.
