I live in NYC and therefore take headphones wherever I go. I bought this pair to replace my normal pair, with the normal lifespan of my "normal pair" generally 3-4 months. These things take a licking and keep on ticking. Going on 7 months now and no signs of wear. Also, the plastic pieces will break apart upon very large impact/pressure, so all you have to do is snap them back in (only happened once). This prevents the plastic from breaking. Others have complained about noise quality, but I don't think that's relevant for this price range, and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary (although I wouldn't call myself a music enthusiast either so go figure).

These street style headphones are of excellent quality and great sound. They have no in-line volume control to get in your way, and work perfectly with iPods.

They are also very comfortable and fit perfectly behind the ears.

Perfect, reliable little headphones!

They are just great headphones. They sound excellent and have deep bass. I've used this type of headphone from Sony since they started making them and they've always had great sound. The ear pieces on this particular model are slightly smaller than previous models. I thought they would "break in" but I've had them for over a year now and they still feel tight. Anyway, I've worn them almost 24/7 for over a year and they still work, sound great, and they fit like the day I bought them. I go through a lot of headphones and a pair that lasts this long is definitely something to write about!

I agree with other reviewers that the headphones aren't the ones you can lie back and use. That's the only disadvantage. If you're walking, fine, but you can't lie back. If you don't like that, get earbuds. Truly, the base quality is great and the headphones produce just the right amount of volume. Very good for this low price. I love these headphones for my ipod. Really top notch pair. Worth the money.

PS: FYI, the little ear comfort strips DON'T last long, but it really doesn't affect anything, except a bit of the comfort. You can't wear them for long periods of time, but as others have said...what can you expect for a low price? Seriously, if you want low priced, fairly good, decent set of headphones, buy these ;)

I bought these with a walkman (haha!) back in 1997 and they've lasted 9 years through miscellaneous moves, losing and finding them, all sorts of weather, and my high school years. I do wear glasses and have ear piercings and yes, they are very uncomfortable after about 45 minutes. They hurt my ears a lot but I like them because I can wear them on my cheeks if someone says something to me or I need to hear something asap. I never liked ear buds because one tug on the cord and i can feel them starting to fall out of my ears, very annoying. I hate regular earphones because they leave an indentation in my hair. These are the best so far.

I bought these a few weeks ago, but I already have a replacement...

The good stuff is that the sound is excellent, as Sony headphones always are. The bass can get very deep, and the treble is clean.

The bad stuff is overall comfort of the headphones, and the style. The MDRG42LP and long hair do NOT mix. I'm guessing the headphones are for people with smaller ears, like elf ears for example. Well, for normal sized ears (like me) these headphones are horrible. Every way you put them on, something will happen. If you put them on half-way, they are comfortable, but fall off. If you put them on the right way (as on the back of the box), the very top of the speaker will hit the inside of your ear (and my ears became red of doing this). If you put them on like the guy on the front (headband all the way down to your neck), the headband becomes highly irritating, and people with long hairstyles will feel extreme discomfort.

The price of these headphones (the list price) is horrible. I've found competable RCA behind-the-neck headphones for half price that sound the same, and are much more comfortable.

I don't know what to say. I'm using these for back-ups, but as for other people buying them, I would not recommend.

I got this headphone from my sister which means that it was used already, and I have been using it for around 3 years, the last 2 years at he gym that means drops and humidity, and it looks like nothing breaks this headphone down.

If you want a durable headphone and you don't care about the best sound quality (again if you are not an expert you won't tell the difference) I recommend you this product.

These headphones can be slightly uncomfortable around the ears. Sometimes the part that loops behind the head is too bulky to sit comfortably while leaning on headrests or to fit under hoodies.

I've had these headphones for about 4 months and the sound quality is waning. i can only hear from one earpiece most of the time.

So basically, go for a higher quality, more comfortable item!
