5.0 out of 5 stars These are among my favorite Phones
It's interesting that some people say these are hard to wear. I find them by far the easiest to wear and the most comfortable of the behind-the-neck style. I wonder if they are trying to wear them like traditional phones? These are very light and stay on my ears (with glasses, by the way) better than most of the stiff plastic phones I've used.

1.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe Sony made such a bad design!
When I saw these headphones at the store, I thought they finally can solve the problem finding flexible neckband headphone.
So, I ordered them from Amazon.
I was sooooo wrong!
The neck band is flexible but so strong, it goes back to it's original shape no matter how hard I try to adjust to my ears.
I was so mad after trying to fit them over my ears...

I've owned many, many headphones over the years (Koss, Memorx, Panasonic, JVC), and Sony has been the most consistently good sounding brand I've had. The MDR-G73LP phones are no exception. They sound far better than the cheapos that come with virtually all portable devices (including Sony.) They aren't as good as my old MDR-V6 phones, which have been thoroughly abused over, what, about 15 years? And even though those V6's are physically shot, they still sound fabulous!

I recently bought the new sealed bud type phones (Sony), but I like the MDR-G73LP better. The sound is smooth, wide range, deep bass, and all around clean. My only complaint is that they don't seem to be the best FM antenna around. But with a CD player, they are excellent.

I can very highly recommend the MDR-G73LP!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome headphones, October 26, 2003
This review is from: Sony MDR-G73LP Street Style Headphones (Blue) (Electronics)
Just to give you an idea of what I'm usually used to listening, when I'm home I use my trusty Grados for headphones (which are not exactly what I'd like to be wearing around town) and my stereo system is comprised of Pioneer's DVD player (SACD, DVD-Audio capable), which are then fed to NAD's driving Paradigm speakers.

I originally purchased these headphones in Japan when I was back home visiting my family, they were not sold here in the states yet. I have been using these headphones for about a year now and I still love them. These have extremely good drivers for a.)the price you're paying for and b.)for its intended use (outdoors on the streets). These are VERY comfortable cans that are light, pretty fashionable(I think), very portable, and did I mention comfortable? Sure Koss's porta-pro's are pretty comfy and sounds good (although you'd look like a dork with them on) but these are so comfortable that you forget you had then on your ears! (and sounds quite good as well)

I'd recommend these headphones to anyone, for the price you cannot beat all the great things it has to offer. Excellent lo-fi headphones!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best headphones I've ever owned, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony MDR-G73LP Street Style Headphones (Blue) (Electronics)
These are by and large the best headphones I've ever used. I'm a college student, and I have to cram my headphones into my backpack to use them after and between classes. Normal headphones usually break after a couple of weeks of this treatment, and earbuds get lost. But these phones have no rigid parts, just a bendy wire that connects the two cans, so they're extremely durable.

The connector loops behind the back of the head, which means they're great for outdoor use because they won't slip off the top of your head like normal headphones. They stay on by slipping partially behind your ears, so they're not on too tight and do tend to come loose every once in a while during very rough activities like jogging.

I find they give better sound and stay in better than ear buds, and they hurt my ears less than the headphones that clip directly onto the top of your ears.

So, for durability, comfort, and ability to stay in place, I highly reccomend these headphones. Plus, they look really cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars sweatband, April 7, 2006

I have a lot of headphones, earbuds, and what not lying around my house and am pretty picky when it comes to listening to music. These are some of my favorites but a few notes. 1) I don't like earbuds or earphones and even expensive ones like Shure I think sound tinny. 2) I wear headphones for longer periods of time when cycling and comfort is a big factor.

The good news and bad news about these headphones, the bad news is the fit is poor on many heads especially if the cord gets bent out of shape even a little bit. The good news is under a skihat or sweatband the sound is great and the comfort is great and it does not give you the total out in space effect an earcanal speaker would. The hat or band presses gently on the speakers and this keeps it in place and dramatically increases fidelity. The headband arrangement looks kind of geeky without a helmet or hat but for anyone looking for a cycling, skiing, jogging, type of arrangement this really is the best that I have found and I have tried many others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compact and Unique but can use a bit of tweeking, June 6, 2006

I love these headphones but they CAN take a while to get use to and even need a little tweaking so that it suits the wearer.

I've had a pair of these Sony headphones for over two years and use nothing else but them. I'm the type of person that does not like earbuds or sticking anything into my ears. I would rather use the earphones that go over the head but those are not exactly great for traveling with. So that left me with earphones that slips over the ear and that's not too many to choose from. A lot of earphones that clip or slip over the ear also tend to hurt the back or front of the ear and that became a nuisance to consider.

It did take me a while to get use to my set of headphones in the beginning. I ended up bending the wire embedded inside a lot but once I got it the way I liked it I used nothing else. It is quite flexible and bendable, just don't try to snap it in half, it might damage the wire within though I haven't had it happen yet. I love how compact it is and the fact that there is only one wire coming from the headphones so you don't have to worry about getting it tangled up. Like most Sony headphones, the sound is great. The design is nice and simplistic. I've read reviews where people said they're too flashy but I don't think so. They're kind of cool and unique. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headphones!, November 13, 2003

I use them for running and other exercise with an MP3 player. I've been through dozens of different styles, all with comfort, quality or usability issues. These are absolutely comfortable, stay in place without applying pressure and have good sound quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Headphones, March 3, 2007

These are the best headphones. Ever. I guess I must have the properly shaped ears or whatever it takes for these to work, but boy do they ever. Any other headphones I've used--over-ear, buds, over-head, whatever--get uncomfortable after anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour of use, no matter how nice. These? I can sit down at my desk in the morning, put 'em on, and take them off only for breaks and lunch (working up to 16-hour days), and all without a problem.

As for sound quality, it sounds fine to me, though I'm a bit of a cretin. If I can hear the music fine, and have to take off the headphones to hear a word somebody standing next to me says, I'm happy.

I wasted money.....
I think these headphones choose the shape of the ears to fit correctly.
The people who are very happy to wear these headphones are those who have the right shape of the ears.
Sony should re-design this item for the general public.
I gave one star for the good sound, but if I can't wear them, what is the good sound for ??

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic headphones, November 22, 2010
This review is from: Sony MDR-G73LP Street Style Headphones (Blue) (Electronics)
I bought these in Japan several years ago and have fallen in love with them. Their rich base is unmatched by any earbud or similar-size headphones and the highs are also excellent. Try these out before buying to see if they match your head and ears in a store if possible, as I've seen both extremes of people finding a perfect fit to people failing to keep the headphones on their head. Luckily, I fall into the former, and most people find them comfortable.

Running, or doing any physical activity with these on and they won't budge at all. Even while upside down they never came off. They are by far the best sports headphones I've found, and I'm always looking for ones that are better - It's been about seven years so far and haven't found one yet.

They do have a flaw: After several years of hard usage (I use mine every other day) you can expect the rubber coating of the wire to come undone, and the wire to either snap or poke through the rubber coating sheath from stress. This causes the whole headphone to fall apart. I've gone through two of the same headphones already this way, but because of the excellent sound quality and design I keep buying the same one to replace it. I've tried audiotechnicas, other sony headphones, and shure's but I keep coming back to these.

So in short:

Pros
-Best headphones for sports (won't budge)
-Best bassI've seen in a small headphone
-comfortable
-good portability

Cons
-eventually breaks
