4.0 out of 5 stars Pros and Cons
I agree with the other reviewers, these are not that good for running but they are very good for walking around. I use them at work and when I leave my desk the Sony MDR-J20 have never fallen off my ears. They suit my needs as I can't stand to have an ear bud in my ear for more than 5 minutes. These actually rest outside ear canal, rather than being crammed into your ear...

3.0 out of 5 stars Middle ground on these
They have great sound, but then this is Sony, I wouldn't expect anything less. Problems with design. I don't use the for running, but can see this would cause problems. 3.0 out of 5 stars Middle ground on these, August 10, 2005
This review is from: Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) (Electronics)
They have great sound, but then this is Sony, I wouldn't expect anything less. Problems with design. I don't use the for running, but can see this would cause problems. The "earhook" are very nice is you are not moving about. Easy on your ears, very comfortable. But the slightest movement dislodges them. This could have been corrected if they had made the earhook longer. As if, for exercise these are the pits. I used them hooked to my laptop to listen to my writing being reread back on ReadPlease. Even with as little movement as that take they were constantly falling off!

I also didn't like the cord design. Instead of the Y shape with equal cords, that generally are adjustable. The has a very short side that goes under your chin and then the long lead comes from the one side. Nice concept, but it's the pits for something with very long hair. Feels like I have a chin strap.

Sorry, cheap ones half the prices are much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst earphones ever, July 14, 2005
This review is from: Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) (Electronics)
OK... maybe not ever, but no one should buy these things. The sound quality is great... but they won't stay in your ear unless you lie down and don't move. Impossible to use in the gym and not even that good anywhere else. Whoever designed these things should be fired!

1.0 out of 5 stars Decent headphones, horrible for running, May 3, 2005
This review is from: Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) (Electronics)
These headphones fit comfortably, produce decent sound (nothing special) but do not stay on your ears while running - despite the fact that they are advertised as "Sport" headphones! I spent half of my time running holding them to my ears or catching them as they fell out.

Another annoying point: the cord is the type where one ear is much longer than the other (so that you can wear the player at your hip). Some people like this but it drives me crazy and the cords constantly get tangled. I have to untangle the earbuds before every use.

However, if you just want some white earphones to match your white iPod then buy these.

These actually rest outside ear canal, rather than being crammed into your ear canal. Much more comfortable to wear. Plus if someone should speak to you, they can get your attention as these earphones don't cancel out all outside noise. I think that's a bonus as I don't want to be deaf to what is going on around me, it's too dangerous when in public. The first pair I bought did have a problem with the wires being exposed after a month or so, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. But I liked them so much I bought another pair and a year later they are still fine, no sign of wear.

FYI: If you wear the loop that goes between the two earphones over the back of your neck, they are more secure when walking about.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Intended for Use During Movement, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) (Electronics)
Stupidly, I bought these for running without readings reviews. They did fit in my ears nicely but would be ripped off with the slightest tug while jogging. Also, the plastic on the cord rubbed off exposing the wires after only two months. The plastic used to encase the wires is too soft to stand up to movement. The sound is pretty good but only buy if you plan on remaining stationary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy for the price; if they fit your ears..., April 13, 2005
This review is from: Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) (Electronics)
These are inexpensive headphones, but they're Sony so they're still decent quality. I bought them to replace the standard headphones that came w/my PSP and I must say that they're much better. The originals fell out all the time, had no bass, had a really short cord and crackled when you turned the plug. The replacements are large, so they fit my ears better (probably not good for girls... they are way too big for my fiance), they stay put and the cord is longer but not too long... just right in fact. The sound quality is really good, but the bass could still be better... for the price you can't beat the sound quality though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sound, comfort, good forthe office, not working out, August 6, 2007

I got these from my wife when I hijacked her Shuffle. Of the four different headphones she had available, these are the most comfortable and best sounding. I like the fact that they are not earbuds, which I find uncomfortable and which hurt my ears if I use them for several hours. I use these in the office, where I want to hear what is going on around me, and occasionally on the train, where again, I don't want sound isolation. Frequently, I only put one phone in so I can still talk to people and interact.

For running, I agree with the other reviewers. They do not stay in place very well, but being able to hear the cars around you probably makes them safer than many of the headphones that go in the ear.

They don't really fit. I got these because my iPod ear buds didn't really want to stay in my ear-- I've had a problem with other ear buds I've tried, too.

These stay BETTER than the ear buds for me, but that's not saying much. The "hanger" part doesn't hang. It juts up beyond the top of my ear and doesn't do much other than look silly. The back part of the hanger does help to stabilize the bud a little bit, but these really don't fit as snugly as I'd expected them to. I do have smallish ears, but judging by the other reviews, it looks like I'm not the only one with a fit problem.

I will use these a lot in transit (busrides and such) and when I'm trying to pass the time. Possibly even while I'm biking. I'm sure they'll work fine for that. But I would not purchase these with the intention of running with them. They would NOT stay in place for something like that. They're advertised as being smaller and more comfortable than your standard clip-style headphones, but really, you need the bigger clip if you're going to be bouncing around a lot.

Besides the fit, though, they're great. I like the unusual cord style, with one side longer than the other. With my iPod buds I always had a problem wearing my shuffle in my pocket-- it'd always cause one side or another to get dislodged. But the long, uneven cord is great-- I can stick one side around the back of my head and keep my shuffle in the opposing pocket.

And the sound is amazing. I'd expect nothing less of Sony, but these sound great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Falls Out When Running, August 12, 2006

I bought these for my I-Pod Nano to wear while running. They are continually falling out and needing readjustment. Impossible to use while excercising. One of the problems is the left ear cord is shorter than the right which creates and imbalance of weight distribution. This causes the ear pieces to be jarred out of the ear canal. The sound is good, if you are not moving. I will have to purchase a different design. These are impossible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap for a reason, April 8, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony MDR-J20 h.ear Stereo Headphones (White) (Electronics)
Like every self-respecting iPod owner I wanted white headphones that matched. Also, I'm no audiophile, but I'm starting to recognize average sound from good sound.

Since the Apple ear buds just don't stay in my ears very well (they sounded ok I guess) I decided I needed something different. These looked like the perfect solution. They were not. Maybe it's the shape of my ears(!), but they literally hung down and didn't stay remotely close to being secure in any way, shape or form. Maybe your ear is shaped differently, I see other people with the Apple ear buds fit perfectly in their ears. But for me, they were useless.

I can't even judge the sound quality since they were so hard to keep in place.

I'm going to try the Sony MDR-EX81LP headphones I think. Everyone at my gym seems to like that style. Plus the over the ear thing won't bother me since I don't wear glasses. I'll post my review of them soon after I get them - there's hardly reviews of them out there right now.
