I just recently brought the Sony MDR-KE30LW and received them today. The product is horrible. It is filmsy like it is made out of some cheap plastic.
The Karabiner is poorly designed, the clip part is a cheap piece of plastic that doesn't clip very well. You can go to a dollar store and buy an actual metal carabiner for $1 and it will perform better. Which is what I ultimately ended up doing.

The pulling mechanism for the earbud is decent. However,the diameter of the product is too big. It is closed to 2 inches wide. It has this white outter rubber material which easily gets dirty. The cord is too short. It only pulls out from the earbud end. I wish it was retracble on both ends.

My general dissapointment with the karabiner and casing should not be confused with the excellent sound quality sony gives us as usual. All in all I think this product was a big dissapointment. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

It is what I expected. I liked the function of Retractable cord for easy cord management. It is easy to use and works.

It works great if it fits your use. If you carry your Ipod with you everywhere, you can keep these headphones at your belt, and roll in and out at your convenience in a snap. No more entangled mess, great sound quality. It also comes in in ear (Sony MDR-KX70LW/B) and in black, but Amazon doesn;t carry the black version, which is too bad... I love it...

I bought these to replace my old Sony retractable in-ear ear buds. I use them for travel, and specifically as a passive (silicone-based ear canal blocking) noise reduction system for flying. My old Sony ones had broken, and Sony doesn't sell make them anymore. This particular kind on this page are more like those cheap ones that come with an iPod -- obviously designed for the ears of some alien species, and not humans, hence my 3-star review.
