5.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad at all.
These are perfect if you need good inexpensive headphones. I always listen to music on them when I read magazines but I wouldn't go out of the same room(that has the stereo)with them because it won't sound as good. Oh and make sure you have the noise filter ON.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flawed design, plagued by cutouts and power reqs, February 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony MDR-RF930K 900-MHz RF Wireless Headphones (Electronics)
I returned these to Amazon. I was looking for a pair with good sound specs and these appeared to fill the bill. However, in practice, there were three major problems: (1) an 80W amp had to be cranked up all the way to power reasonable listening levels, which is bad for the amp, (2) there were frequent cutouts even within 15 feet and direct line of site, (3) the head fit was poor. I'm very disappointed with Sony for releasing this product with such major (and discoverable) flaws.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Design, February 5, 2000

I've had a set of these phones for a month now. The design appeared to be just what I needed for exercising and listening to the TV. But the phones perform very poorly. Audio begins cutting in and out when ever I'm greater than 10 feet away from the transmitter or when ever line of sight is broken. Shame on Sony for putting such a lame product in the market. Mine are going back as soon as I find a phone line to Sony that someone will answer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappoined, January 2, 2000

I purchased a pair of these, and returned then within two days. The sound seemed poor, and I received some static even after changing channels. I suppose its possible I had a bad unit, but I didn't bother exchanging them for another.

I purchased these headphones 3 days ago and had a mixed experience. I was hoping to connect them to my AV system to be able to listen to both my television and my CD player. The results with the CD player were horrible. Even in the same room, one channel would drop out, then come back depending how I held my head. If I raised my arm, I would lose a channel. These headphones don't appear to be ready for CD players yet.

On the other hand, when I use them to listen to my television, the result is satisfactory. I suspect the same drop outs exist, but they are not nearly as noticable with dialog as they are with music. Since I primarily bought them to listen to the TV, I plan to keep them. The sound isn't as good as wired headphones, but they work well enough throughout my house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed with 900MHz, January 15, 2000

Bought a pair similar to this and also had terrible trouble with static and cutout. Eventually went with a 'wired' headphone. Not as convenient but I just haven't found a wireless that provides consistent, satisfactory sound.

I HAVE NOT RETURNED THIS UNIT YET. BUT AM THINKING ABOUT IT AND HERE IS WHY..WHEN I PLUGGED IN THE CABLES TO THE BACK OF THE REMOTE BOX THEY DID NOT SEAT TIGHTLY..THEREFORE THE SOUND CUTS IN AND OUT IF I MOVE THE BOX IN ANY WAY..I DON'T THINK THIS IS GOOD..HOWEVER, I FIND THE SOUND ACCEPTABLE TO MY EAR...

4.0 out of 5 stars If you're a normal person with realistic expectations..., April 24, 2004

Sheesh. If I'm not reading about how these sound while listening to vintage (passe, played out) "thrash" metal, I'm reading about them not functioning well amongst stacks and stacks of electronic equipment.

What are we reviewing here? These are inexpensive, 900mhz wireless headphones, and if you've ever owned a pair of these, you know some hissing and interference is to be expected. And this isn't ear-blasting static either. Just a quiet hiss or temporary drop. No big deal. Ever owned a 900mhz cordless phone before? There's your experience. They will occasionally (briefly) cut out for a fraction of a second or you'll hear a little blip of interference. But for the most part, considering performance against competing products, these perform within the realm of acceptability.

If you're a normal person using these to hear the TV, you'll probably be pleased. If you're a real audiophile or whatever you shouldn't be buying 900mhz headphones in the first place.

Battery hogs, yes. Get some rechargeable AA batteries. Done.

If you crank the bass boost all the way up on most headphones it sounds too rumbly but when you do that on these it sounds perfect. The only problem I have with them is that the only batteries I can use for these are Energizer and every other battery type I tried wore out of steam in 1 or 2 months but thats a very minor complaint. One of the best things about these is that theyre not too loud. You can crank them up and they dont sound painful.
