Mediocre at best,

I bought these as they appeared to be good for exercising and I've had good experiences with sony products in the past. First off you have to keep the volume control on the cord low and use your players volume control - at higher volumes on the integrated control the sound gets distorted especially at the high end. OK, I can live with that. The real letdown was the fact that these "in-the-ear" headphones didn't stay in the ear so well. Every 1/5 mile on the treadmill I found myself pushing them back in as they quickly worked their way out till they were resting over my ears. I'll use them for the time being but will stay on the lookout for a better pair.

One reason I like these headphones is because the headband is comfortable and keeps the earphones in place most of the time unless you are bending over a lot (pulling weeds).
Many types of headphones give my ears claustrphobia, but these are not intrusive and do allow outside sounds in as when my wife calls that dinner is ready. I really like the volume control so that when I go in and out of noisey environments, I don't have to fish out my iPod and adjust the volume. However, as others have mentioned, you can't use the volume control when you have the cord inside your shirt so as not to jerk your ears off on some annoying projection or part of your body. In fact, I just lost sound in one earpiece after catching the cord on my knee while bending over. I am going to buy two more of these, they are the best I've seen so far.

I have tried several different kinds of headphones for the gym and these are my favorite. You have to be somewhat careful how you store them so they don't get damaged but for the price there are great and you can always get another set if one gets damaged. The only problem I have is that I can't use the volume control very well because I usually thread the wire under my shirt so it doesn't get caught in the equipment at the gym. I had the head phones on and walked too close to a machine and the wire caught on the machine and about pulled my ears off. It was a good reminder to me to be careful around the equipment and the moving parts in particular. I ended up pulling the wire from the volume control loose and had to buy a new set. They are extremely light weight and I think the sound quality is certainly good enough for someone who just wants to use them while working out. I think I will order another set now.

I think these are very nice headpones and i enjoy the way they are small and not bulky, but a word to the wise: if you have these kind of "in ear" headphones, make sure you have another padded ear headphones becuase at times they can kind of irritate your ear and are not always comfortable if you are laying down with them on.

Best headphones EVER!!!!!!!,

I have incredibly small ears, hence, small ear canals. These are the ONLY headphones that allow me to painlessly listen to my ipod. AND they stay in while running, lifting, and using cardio machines at the gym. The sound is very typical sony, great bass, mid low and high tones. Overall - EXCELLENT.

Decent high-end and middle frequency range, poor low-end--typical for small headphones. The in-the-ear style works for me. The chord is too short for my needs. My 1st pair arrived defective and the 2nd pair lasted for only 3 months and I was very careful with them. Three stars only for low durability and short chord.

Simply put, the sony vertical sport series are the best headphones you can buy for the price. If you treat them well, they will last for years, and the bass response and overall clarity is top notch. I have a pair of 140$ surround wireless sony's, a behringer set, the verticals, and a pair of sennheiser's, and still the sony MDR's are strong enough to push high quality sound at any volume.
Biggest plus? Tiny drivers mean you can listen to your music LOUD and only be at 25% max volume on your favorite MP3 player... which of course leads to longer battery life. I have bought these headphones numerous times (as with any exposed cord electronic, getting caught on something can be its demise) and will continue to do so.

Good and Cheap Work-out Earphones,

I work out 4 times a week, and listen to music during every workout. Earbuds and similar over-the-ear phones don't get it, I'm too active and spend all my time adjusting the darn things. [When you're listening to Car Bomb during a sprint, you just can't stop to push the damned earphones back in, now can you?!]
I've worn out a few of the Sony MDR-A35G S2 Sports Headphones with Sweat Guard Mechanism, which really work well for me, but wanted to try a similar set of phones that MIGHT not break at the temples so easily [I go through those about once or twice a year]. So I got the Sony MDR-W24V Verticals, and they are working fine. Have had them for a couple of months, the sound is good, and the in-line volume control is GREAT. Saves me having to pull out the iPod to adjust volume. I will definitely get these again when they wear out, as they inevitably will.

Rough around the edges,

I have been using the Sony MDR-A34L Vertical In-the-Ear Headphones with 3-Hinged Headband but have been repeatedly disappointed in the plastic breaking. I tried these and so far, I like the fit and the small, in-ear buds. So, why 3 stars... the ear buds have a seam along the center and the plastic is rough and sharp. It pokes my ear and while running, creates a blister. Not so good, but sanding the edge down has helped.

Superb Rocking Sound!,

I had their predecessors for almost 10 years, one day the little things stop functioning because I pulled them too hard, so I decided to look for the updated version of these headphones, because my earholes cannot stand any other headphones (too small). When I got them, not only their design remains the same, but the sound was dramatically improved and they have manual vol control (a plus). The originals had excellent sound, but these are even better!
I am pretty satisfied, thanks Sony, keep up the good work! |
