The soft pads are pretty comfortable to wear on your ears.

I was looking for headphones that have great sound quality and amazing bass but weren't too expensive.

More importantly, bass is really really strong, and highs and mids are quite clear as well.

I have been looking for a new pair of headphones for a little while now. I'm tired of buying pair after pair of earbuds (some of which were pretty nice) and having them quit working! So after a little while I decided to search for a something that was sturdier, affordable, and with good sound. My search brought me to these headphones and I am quite satisfied. Let me share with you a few things I like about these headphones

1) Very comfortable: The pads on this thing are quite thick. I'm still breaking them in, but they are wonderful still. *UPDATE* I find that these headphones are most comfortable when worn with the pads higher rather than lower. When I wore them low, they tended to start hurting after awhile; when worn with the pads closer to the top of my head, I couldn't even feel them :)

2)Sound: For $30 these deliver excellent sound quality. The bass is really nice. I've read other reviews about these things not having equal treble to match the bass, and that may be slightly true and you may recognize that if you're a sound person or are used to studio quality headphones, but for the average joe, you most likely won't notice at all. And if you do, most equalizers on mp3/ipods have a "treble boosting" option.

3) Build Quality: These things are going to last. The cord itself is different; instead of being round, it is flat and less prone to breaking. Plus, the headphones themselves are also fairly light, which is nice! Also, about the cord length...It's around 3 ft. I find it perfect for using with my ipod.

To sum it all up, great price, nice sound, and it looks like I won't be having to buy pair after pair of earbuds anymore!

I currently own two headphone sets: these and some Sony MDR-300's from waaaay back. The 300's are great headphones and pretty much seem to be realistic to the sound. These not so much. They definitely boost bass waaay up there. If that's what you want (i did) then these are exactly what you need. For more true sound I would look elsewhere. Let me give you an example. I'm playing Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force 4 5D'S on psp right now hooked to these. The bass is up there hard, I mean like competing with the treble hard. This is, however, what I wanted. I can't run my system with any bass due to the fact that I live with other people below me so these headphones can fulfill that need without disturbing others. The highs are clear too on this set, not crystal, but I don't need that. I suspect that anyone just looking to have some bass on the move will love these. Audiophile's need not apply as may have been mentioned before in other reviews. I would say the bass is about tripled from a standard type headphone, maybe only double but I'm feeling a bit more.

For volume: I just read the review where someone said it distorts at high volumes..... this person must truly be hitting some very high volumes, like too high. I only typically crank volume to emphasize bass and these do that at low volume so I actually need less volume than normal to enjoy my sounds. My ipod has never done justice to bass through a headset but it does now and actually I'm listening at a lower volume as well. That alone is better on my ears. Of course, everyone knows when you wear these hogs, you aren't going incognito here.

For comfort, these are superbly padded. I read reviews around saying they hurt your ears. If they do, then you either have sensitive ears or don't use headphones much.

I ABSOLUTELY love these headphones. In simple words, they are real comfortable, but if you have elf ears (the top part of the ear points outwards)like me, then they will start to hurt your ears after about two to three hours of continuous use. Also the pads are real soft.

One thing you should know is that with great bass comes little high's and mid's. The people saying these headphones have a superb sound quality obviously never had headphones with bass. Just because you can clearly hear the bass, does not mean that the sound quality is great. The high's and mid's feel muffled. I currently have them set on the treble booster EQ setting on my Ipod and I still do not get the high's I look for. Another thing, the bass is such a big part that when at high volumes, the song begins to feel as if it were trying to battle the bass and it was losing.

The fact of the matter is that these headphones feel amazing on your ears and perfect for those bass lovers. But if you are looking for loud headphones, or a pair of headphones with hi-fi sound you might as well looke elsewhere.

Sony is really good at making inexpensive headphones for the audio enthusiast (not audiophile) that wants great sound but can't tell the difference between 120hz and 1.21 gigawatts. They sound good. Are they for a producer in a studio? Probably not. Are you a producer in a studio? Probably not. You probably want comfortable headphones to listen to music. All the inexpensive Sony over the ear headphones are really nice. Of course you can go high end. But for the casual music enthusiast who isn't trying to pick out the third flute in the orchestra on Beethovens 7th, these work great!
