5.0 out of 5 stars Best headphones hands down
These are seriously the best. Yes they may be pretty old and they're not all shiny and silver, but if you're going more for sound quality than looks, then these are for you.

I'm a DJ, and my roommate's a DJ. He's had these headphones for over 11 years and they're still perfect. No sound lost. Vocals are clear and are not muffled by the bass. Bass is awesome...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good sounding headset
My only complaint is that the head set is a bit on the tight side (for me) which is not adjustable. I have a small head so this is surprising to me. If you like a very tight sealed fit, these are just the thing, they completely cover my ears generally well. In a long session and if you wear glasses they can cause a bit of uncomfort being so tight... Maybe in more time...

Really clear sound. I find them extremely comfortable to wear for long periods, but I have small head and small ears, they may be less friendly to those with bigger heads/ears.

All in all these are wonderfully functional headphones with great sound and are sturdy enough to hold up to years of DJ abuse. :) Five stars baby!

I am a studio engineer and Music nut and had been using Sony Mdr-7509 phones for quite a few years.

When I recently bought my CHiPOD i couldn't stand the earbuds so I figured I would look into WHATELSE Sony Offered in the Professional range in a less bulkier package for "city wandering".

I came across The Mdr-7505 and decided to order them after the reviews were generally good.

I was fully prepared for a disappointment and a step down from my Mdr-7509 phones. Well....it didn't come. These phones are just as good. No bass sacrificed, nice top end. Comfy even though they are the non circum aural earmash types.

I am actually more diappointed with my Mdr-7509 HD set compared to my old Mdr-7509 standards. Their "clearer Midrange response" seems to be more of a re-engineering to cut lower Bass frequencies...but thats another review!!

Buy these without hesitation. they sound good...now will they stay in one piece cause they are , dread I say plastic!!! I trust Sony for phones so My fingers are crossed for the long run.

I've had these headphones since 2000. They are the best headphones I have ever used. They are very durable, have great sound, and you can order replacement parts from Sony. I have used them for live sound production and love the reversible, swivel earcups. Another nice feature is the built-in adapter plug which allows them to be used with either 1/8" headphone jacks or 1/4" headphone jacks. The only part I have had to replace is the earpad cushions due to wear (and those were kind of expensive to order from Sony).

Pros:

-Superb sound quality.

-Surprisingly good job of keeping out background noise.

-They appear to be well made.

Cons:

-Headphones feel uncomfortable on the ears, especially if you wear glasses, I've owned them over a year and this has not improved.

-Headphones are larger than I expected.

They sound just as I would expect from Sony, very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars 7 years of faithful use and abuse, November 4, 2011

I used these for 3 years in the field as a Cameraman for MLB, they are comfortable, loud and solid.

After 7 years they are more duct-tape than headphones where they attach to the swiveling head connector. All the connectors for the earpiece where they attach to the swivel/headband broke one after another at some point in the first 2 years of use and have been taped up with gaffer tape since - Sony would not take them back, so I just kept taping them and retaping them, but I love these headphones.

These cans were beaten around, thrown on the floor, stepped on, tripped over the cord, abused by airlines and TSA agents alike and they always gave me decent audio. After 7 years it's time to hang them up, not throw them away, and admire them on a nearby coathook as the worn out corpse that they are becoming - only to take them down from time to time, and remember the good times as I plug them back in for a few hours of music or video editing.

You can't go wrong with these, they are slighlty smaller than the 7506's, which I liked - the 7506's make my ears sweat, which sucks when you're a field cameraman. You can't go wrong with these 7505's for under $80 as your go-to headphones. But be aware, they will break at the connector for the swivel at some point if you beat on them. I never had a pair of headphone withstand as much abuse as these took.

Well done Sony, but you lose a star for the flimsy swivel connectors and not accepting them back under warranty.

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony MDR7505 - I like these headphones :), July 10, 2011

I'm a bassist & guitarist who does a lot of home recordings. About 6 years ago I got into the sound engineering end of things. I've used many different headphones in that time and understand that what you hear with headphones and hear through a pair or speakers are two very different things. Having said that, for the money, I think the MDR7505's are a great deal. Very simply, here's why:

1. The low end is a bit heavy but, the difference is easily predictable, (in relation to what the same track sounds like through my monitors).

2. The MDR7505's are very comfortable & easily adjustable. I sit for 2 & 3 hours at a time mixing tracks and often forget I'm wearing them.

3. The closed back design blocks out the rest of the world for the most part, keeping my head into what I'm working on. Don't expect them to block out a busy highway or anything. However, close the window & door - You're good to go.

4. The price! I've not heard the headphones I like better for under $200.00.

But all this is just me. Go to your local audio electronics store, try out the really expensive stuff, try out the cheep stuff & try these out. See what you like best and what you're willing to pay... I like these headphones. :)

I am a sound design major student and the head phones are great for music and audio editing however they are uncomfortable and for people like me who will be wearing them for hours you may want to take comfort into consideration.
