3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but
These headphones aren't that bad, this is coming from someone that normaly used the earbud style before finding these.
The only reason why I'm not giving them a 5 is that I've never found a pair of them yet that lasts longer than 12 months under my normal usage pattern, so I've gone through three of them in around 30 months.

Pros:

- Sony brand name
- New, more flexible type of wire (feels almost like a very thin strand of yarn)

Cons:

- Wire is too long and gets tangled too easily
- Feels "loose" on your ears, almost as if its about to fall off
- I suspect that the sound bleeds easily since it doesnt fit very tightly against your ear and doesn't have very much padding.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great buy, August 27, 2001

The sound that these headphones give is absolutely fabulous. Everyone that I told to listen to them because of the fabulous sound, said they couldn't believe the beautiful, clear music they were hearing was coming from those little headphones! It's clean, clear, and lets you hear everything in a song. Also, the caps on them let you change the color of them by buying 12 different colored caps (at Sony's website). Overall, these were a great buy! I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in purchasing them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small, Effective, and a little Messy, April 17, 2003

These are some great headphones. They are a bit pricey (due to the Sony name) but they are well worth the price. For their small size, they produce excellent sounds over a wide range. They are definitely up to par with other Sony products in terms of technical quality. Their small size is a huge plus when stowing them in a backpack or pocket.

The most unique part of these headphones are the spring hinged ear clips. To put these things on, you rotate the plastic ear clip, put them on your ears, and let go. The spring forces them back into position and "locks" them onto your ears. It takes some getting used to at first, but after a while, you forget your wearing them sometimes.

The W.EAR Headphones also come with two different sets of changable body covers (a translucent turqoise color and solid grey). For those who are into customization, this kind of gets the job done albeit in a small way.

The chord and plug are visually interesting as well. There is a thin black chord that is wrapped in what looks like clear plastic thread. This is just an aesthetic thing, but I think it makes them that much better.

My biggest gripe has to be the length of the chord. Personally, I think it's too long (over 5 feet). This can be great if you have them hooked up to a stationary sound system and need a little moving space, but for a personal device (like an MP3 player), it gets in the way and easily tangles.

The chord tangling up is also a problem during transport. These do not come with a carrying case of any sort so you pretty much just stuff or drop them into place. On other headphones, you could wrap the chord around something, but due to their design, there is nothing to wrap this chord around.

5.0 out of 5 stars May not be perfect but they are real close., November 19, 2003

I was on a road trip to New York 2 years ago and I was listening to music the whole way and I had this crappy pair of bud headphones that where annoying the hell out of me the whole trip. So once I got to the city I threw them out and bought these headphones. I must say these headphones blew me away, they where the best sounding headphones I had ever used. What's even more amazing then that though is the fact that they lasted me from then till now. Needless to say they are really busted up and the cord is fraying badly, but thats to be expected after 2 years of my punishment. And by punishment I mean being thrown around, falling on the floor contantly, sitting in my bookbag for weeks at a time, and being chewed on by my dog .. twice. The only problems I have with these is that they do not lay flat on your ear so sound tends to excape, and after wearing them for an hour your ears get a little sore, but its not to bad, over all they are pretty comfortable and I even wear glasses and they are fine. I highly recommend them for anyone who wants good sounding headphones that will last them a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for excersising!, August 2, 2002

I use these headphones exclusively for exercising but they are also great for traveling if you need to conserve on space and need a set of headphones that will remain comfortable for long periods of time.

These phones are nice and light with no headband or neckband, giving you terrific freedom of movement. The spring-loaded ear hooks are very durable, unlike the better sounding but poorly constructed Koss phones of similar design. Another impressive feature is the cord. That's right, I said I like the cord! Sony has created a cord that doesn't tangle (not quite sure how they did this). Think about that for a moment. You can jam these headphones into a bag and when you pull them out you don't have to spend an hour untangling the cord. It's ingenious! I'd recommend them for this reason alone.

Sound quality is average for a little headset. Weak bass and somewhat harsh mids. But if you are using them for travel or exercise, you aren't that interested in audiophile quality anyway, right?

So, what are you waiting for? Get 'em!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect and practical, May 12, 2002

These headphones are the best I have ever owned (I've owned about 5 sets). They are comfortable, which is a bit of a rarity in clip-op phones, lightweight, and the caps can be changed from silver to blue and vice versa.

Pros:
Lightweight and comfortable
VERY Long cord (about 6 ft.)
Cool changing caps (blue and siver)
Easy to put on
Sony brand name

Cons:
Look a little awkward on ears
The long cord can get in the way at times
-NASTY cord covering, making it very uncomfortable to straighten out cord

Incredible product. I've had it for a week, and I can't be happier with how they work. Strongly recommended.

These are the best headphones I have ever used. The sound quality is superb and they are so comfortable. The cord in the back makes your neck kind of itchy because there's this thing around the rubber part. It's much louder than other headphones so I don't have to turn my CD player to an extremely high volume to hear it on the bus. I urge you to buy these headphones if you are thinking about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones, May 27, 2002
By

These headphones are wonderful. They are capable of getting quite loud, which is undeniably necessary. Another pro is the bass; they produce a ton of bass, another absolutely necessary feature. The fit, furthermore, is great. Finally, the cord is fabric like, another wonderful thing.
There are two cons that make me remove a star. One is that the cord is far too long. It gets tangled very easliy, so beware. The other problem is that the spring mechanism breaks (or so I've heard).
I've noticed that some people have a problem with fitting them. Here's how I get them to fit snugly.
-Open the part that goes behind your ear up completely
-Put as much of it behind your ear as possible
-Spin the speaker part back to its normal position
If this is of no assistance, I'm sorry. I have ears that stick out like the wings of a jet :). It may just be me who can get them to fit like that.
