5.0 out of 5 stars For my needs, this reciever is perfect.
First off, I'd like to say this is one the most stylish single-din head units I've seen. Not only does it look cool but it sounds great too. This receiver really enhances my speakers in comparison to my factory Infinity unit.

The main reason I purchased this player is because I have a NWZ-A829 Sony Walkman player, which supports bluetooth and A2DP audio...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sony MEXBT5100
Sony MEXBT5100 CD Receiver

Pros: Menus are easy to navigate. Attractive design.

Cons: BT mic produces very poor quality calls. If I had to do it over, I would pick a radio with a better mic or one that is not built into the unit. People immediately know I am calling from my car and my wife always asks me to use the phone rather than hands free...

First off, I'd like to say this is one the most stylish single-din head units I've seen. Not only does it look cool but it sounds great too. This receiver really enhances my speakers in comparison to my factory Infinity unit.

The main reason I purchased this player is because I have a NWZ-A829 Sony Walkman player, which supports bluetooth and A2DP audio streaming, so the main focus of this review is going to be on this functionality.

Something about being able to stream 16GB worth of music wireless is very appealing to me. Now of course streaming music through bluetooth is going to require some compression of the audio, but the A829 walkman has a High-quality streaming option which to me sounds better than satellite radio. I'd say it the sound quality is around or slightly better than a 128kbps bitrate .mp3 file, which is much better than I was expecting. You have the option to switch through songs on either the walkman/cell phone or you can hit the >> button on the player to navigate through songs, although from what I've seen it does not display the id3 tag info on the screen.

I have not tried the bluetooth call settings but from what I've read on the BT-5000 model, it comes in good but the microphone transmits your voice sounding a little like you're talking through a tin can.

Aside from all that, the MEX-BT5100 is full of options like preset and custom EQ settings, an AUX input for Satellite radio or a mp3 player in case it does not have the A2DP(bluetooth audio streaming). Also, the radio tuner finds stations almost instantly when you hit the >> button, I pick up way more stations than I used to and they come in much better too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality, Bluetooth Mic is okay...., March 27, 2009

This is an awesome product!! It looks awesome too. I've had 2 or 3 sony's and they have all been easy installations, and perfromed perfectly. The bluetooth is okay. The person can only hear you if all your windows are rolled up and your car is at a stop, while driving it's almost like a lens that can't focus, because the mic is trying to single out your voice but there's alot of background noises that get picked up instead. It's a LOT better than having to put the phone up to my ear while driving though. I don't mind yelling all that much haha... All in all I give the 5100 a 4-5... Do they make external mics?

Another note for iphone users: the iphone does not transmit A2DP so you will need a dongle to transmit music via BT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Unit ! ! !, December 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony MEXBT5100 CD Receiver (Electronics)
I bought this head unit this fall to trade out a 3 year old lower end sony model that i got at Best Buy. So when it came to replacing it i tried to do my homework. I knew Sony was the brand i wanted to stay with and beleived this was the highest end unit i could find on Amazon.
I noticed a big difference as soon as i turned it on and adjusted the EQ, which is very nice, this unit made our rockin system come alive and really look forward to the final upgrade on this project with the head unit suppling the signal to 7 Rockford Fosgate Amps: P200-2, PBR300x4, 2 P500-4s, T400-4, 2 T1000-1s.
These amps will power 19 Rockford Fosgate speakers: Power T1 1", T142s, 3 pairs of Power T1652s, 2 pairs of Power T1692s, 3 P3 12"s, and 2 Power T1 15"s.
Should hit hard and loud, Scream like hell and have some nice Mids. Huge Rockford Fosgate fan... Sony too!
