I researched a lot to replace my old system and selected this one based on my requirement for MP3 and radio. I discovered that Hi-Fi shelf systems are not popular any more and # of models is very limited if you do not want to spend over $100.
I have it for a couple days and generally like it:
- it is a new one (Jan 2011);
- relatively cheap ($88, Walmart online);
- equalizer has about 6 options (3 on earlier model);
- sound is not bad for small size unit from CD and FM (loud enough for 300 sq feet room with 25 people).
- I think it has no more than 30 W per channel (not 50 W as advertised). There is a cooling fan inside, it kicks on when you use on high output power over 15 units on volume;
- headphone jack;
- long range remote control (up to 20 feet as tested).
What I do not like:
- a bit akward and looks cheap design;
- no input from other sources (line in or USB);
- very weak AM radio reception (needed to open its case to retune to improve to acceptable level);
- display is too small;
- it does not remember last song on CD if you switch to other modes like FM and return back to CD, you have to start from beginning.
With over 200 songs on MP3 CD it is very inconvient.

I am a college student and got this for my dorm and it has exceeded all of my expectations
lets just say that i got some noise complaints...

Pros- price- works for iPod/iphone- loud- good sound

Cons- if anything the cords for the speakers are only 3-4 ft long- how i have mine set up it isn't a problem

This unit performs exceptionally well and is priced far cheaper than inferior models. I've not found a better value in a sound system and have started buying them for gifts (in addition to the one I keep in my office).

This has a nice sound, but for the price it does what's expected. It plays MP3 CDs, which is what I wanted. I don't have an IPod so I don't know if it works well. It has a remote which is another benefit. Definitely worth the price.

This is honestly the first stereo I've owned since I was 13. I'm almost 30 now, so my husband and I were due for a stereo that didn't have a cassette slot! I'm very pleased with the sound and functions of this system. My husband was afraid it would be too big and bulky, but he's happy it's half the size of our last one : )

I read the reviews and opted to go with this stereo unit. What a great surprise. It was more than we expected. Great Sound from a small unit. Larger than I was expecting; but worth it.

This stereo is all-round great. I bought it because it's the best sound system in its price range with an ipod dock. I skipped over the panasonic stereos Panasonic SC-HC25 Compact Stereo System& Panasonic SC-HC35 Compact Stereo System) because of the pitched hum it would have in stand-by mode as told by a couple reviews.

I use this for my old 2nd gen ipod touch and it works excellently. While the ipod's plugged in, it charges and will even play pandora through the stereo's speakers. So, I basically have an internet radio that plays music that I love. What more could I ask for?

My only complaints are that the system looks a little smaller than the picture shows it to be, there is a small display which won't display the clock if your ipod's plugged in, but it's perfect for a small room and your ipod can do the rest from there. Also, as far as sound quality goes, it's very bass heavy, which is nice for the most part, but for some songs it can get annoying. Overall, I'm happy with this stereo, even though it looks a bit retro. Definitely a good buy for just playing your iPod, especially for the price thankyouverymuch.

I do not like sony products however i bought this for my younger sister for christmas. We plugged it in and the bass was very punchy but full of mids and highs that were surprisingly clear. I told her to play it for a few weeks to break the sony speakers in. After the few weeks had passed i turned it on and voila. it sounds as it should and the bass is pretty nice considering the price and size. much better than an ipod dock at that price.
