Very Good System for the Price,

This system is good for small areas and not meant to replace a large stereo system. It is good for college students, children, and medium to small rooms.
Pro's 1. There is plenty of bass, sound, and quality delivered. 2. It is compact for people that want a small stereo system. 3. The sound is clear for the casual music player. 4. It has an auxiliary plug so if you want to play music off your IPod, PC, MP3 player, or possibly your phone it can be hooked up. If your phone does not have an auxiliary port then it won't work. 5. It contains a remote control which means you don't have to keep going to the stereo to change music. Con's 1. There is an Ipod dock that has a specific port but it only fits Ipods. I was under the impression it would fit a Sony MP3 10 GB player but doesn't. Odd Sony did not accommodate the port for their own players. But the auxiliary port makes up for that loss. 2. The sound dial is too big. If you look at the picture you will see in the middle a sound dial. Why do these dials have to be so humongous? But that depends on opinion. 3. It has an equalizer built in but it's already pre-programmed for rock, jazz, etc. You cannot manipulate the equalizer to your liking you must choose a pre-programmed setting. Overall good value for such a small price. Some people want long speaker wire well this will not exactly accommodate you. It is meant for a shelf the speaker wire is already built into it. If you are comparing the higher price Sony Mini Shelf system or the cheaper one this one is worth it. The lower costing Sony Shelf mini listed isn't really worth it in my opinion because you can get those at Wal Mart. The higher price shelf mini is for those that have the money for the few extra features. I would highly suggest this one.

The sound more than adequately fills the room. Lots of bass. All the power I need. Easy to set up. And, as the title says, I now can play all my recordings from my iPod! Love that!
My only complaints are.... yes, the speaker wires are definitely too short. I would also like to adjust the balance of bass and treble but there is no way to do so. On my previous system, I could easily hook in my TV but don't see any way to do that with this system. Still, worth the price. I would purchase it again.

Wanted compact player & this a bit larger than I wanted - speakers not attached so makes moving it about more difficult. It has a great sound. User manual less than efficient. Marks everything 1-2-3- etc. but nowhere does it tell you what 1-2-3 is. Weird. I finally figured it out. Agree that owner should be able to prograM radio to their specifications but can't delete the original settings. Each part of the country have their own broadcasting stations and should be up to owner to program. Love the sound however so makes up for first frustrations.

I only have a single word for this system "Awesome".....
I was little worried when I was buying this product since we had a similar Sony product (EC 69i) but with lower RMS Wattage. But this product is really worth its money. Perfect for Small and Studio Apartments. Pros: Sound Quality Size 5-6 equalizer mode Gets connected to PC and TV Cons: Hard to find one. If you are buying a Mini HiFi System , I would suggest go and atleast have a look for this system.

I did a lot of research for our multiple uses for a mini sound system. I spend a lot of time in the garage on projects and my son plays a lot of hockey in the driveway. We use this system to keep us entertained and the sound is amazing - from the garage! It also helped this week keeping us in a good mood while we dug out the driveway from our snowstorm. We purchased a second one for our pool area (in the warmer months!). The only minor issue is the speaker wires are permanent and are only 6 feet long. They should either be 20 feet or allow you to disconnect the provided ones and add your own to suit your specific location. Still, it's the best product for the price.

This is a review of the sound and features of this unit. It is too early to report about reliability but I will update in a few months.
I was going to return this item after two days with it because the unit presented some kind of software malfunction after I played a 'burned' CD, it didn't respond to manual or control remote inputs for a while. I was very sorry because the sound was great However after a night of rest and several resettings, the next day the unit was working fine and has been working fine ever since. I tested both PC and Ipod modes playing "La Murga" awesome song by Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe (incredible trombone by Colon and my recommendation to test speakers also available here in mp3 from Amazon), I was not disappointed To play music from your PC you will need to buy a 3.5 mm RCA "mini" cable. To play the Ipod (I used an Ipod mini) you dont need an Ipod dock adapter, be aware it does not work with Iphone .AM and FM Reception is clear, the unit is a little bulky but at $141 for 380 Watts of SONY sound I had to make a little extra room in my bookshelf

Back in the 80s, I worked at an audio-video store and had a stereo worth about $2000. Eventually, the various components "died", the last one only recently. So I had to buy something to get my main listening area going again. I had heard the SONY MHC-EC79i at a Best Buy while Christmas shopping, so I bought one and gave up on components. Man! Am I ever happy that I did!
I spend much of my spare time listening to music, so even though I have only had this a few days, I have listened to several hours worth of music on it. The sound quality is excellent. Between the different EQ settings and SONY's DSGX, I found a very plesing sound quite quickly. I have played acoustic jazz, electric jazz, rock, prog rock, and praise and worship on this stereo, and all of them sound like they are supposed to sound. This unit also supplies my computer sound, which was very easy to connect. I have not enjoyed listening to music this much for a long time. The speaker wires were just barely long enough for where I put it. If you are looking for a great deal on a stereo, look no further.

The Sony MHC-EC79i Mini is a great little stereo! Has alot of power and sounds great! The directions were very easy to understand and follow. I love the ipod feature, lets me dock, play, charge, and control it with the remote. It has several equalizer settings, although I haven't found one to set the levels yourself. The only thing I have found that I don't like is that it is a single CD player. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend this to anyone looking for a shelf system at a reasonable price!

I bought the Bose Wave system with the I pod dock and I took It back after hering this Sony Hi Fi. The Sony system put it to shame. It sounds so much better. It only cost 199.00 and the Bose 579.00. The only thing going for the bose is the size. Sony is great. I recomend this unit to every one. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ DEB

Loud, rich sound. I'm impressed. The only two things I can find to say negative about this would be 1) the short speaker wires (which others reported) and the somewhat confusing remote. While I usually listen to my iPod on this, when I do need to switch to the Tuner (FM), it isn't very intuitive. I generally need to try a handful of buttons on the remote before I find the one that switches it to tuner and a few more tries to get it to switch to my pre-programmes channels.
