4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, November 25, 2005
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX25 3-CD Shelf System with Game Sync Mixing (Electronics)
Got this for a christmas present a couple of years ago, have had no problems with it, it actually pumps pretty good..but not good enough for my taste ;) this is a great stereo for someone who likes to hook up their gaming console to a stereo, since the Audio/Video cables are on the front of the unit, this stereo also has the capability to play other media as well as output the AUX at the same time with it's Game Mixing button, which allows me to listen to Rush on CD while playing Halo 2 :D if you're looking for a stereo that will wake the neighbourhood with the bass, this isn't quite it although it comes close, and unlike the above reviews I have had no problems with CDs not reading or anything. The only problem I have with this stereo is the Groove and V-Groove bass enhancment settings seem to remove the lowest frequencies of bass, which sort of defeats the purpose IMO..other than that it is a very good unit for 240 watts. I will most likely be upgrading to a JVC MX-GB6, because my friend has one of those, and that could EASILY replace high end home theatre systems with it's dual 170 watt subwoofers.

I gave the Sony GX-25 to a friend, due to the holiday rush the gift was still sitting at my house, so what the hey I hooked it up. This unit packes a lot of whollipppp for the money. Forget that it only plays Russian MP3's, forget the "Groove" setting, place the unit in a room about 300 square feet, put in your favorite disk, and turn it up. In tuner verb, "their is a lot of ching in the engine". I have a high mid end surround system in the house, so as a comparison, what I paid for speaker wire, you can buy this system and still get a great sound. I looked the next best deal out there in this price range is the Tivoli-Kloss, which is far behind in sound quality, but kicks ass in the size department. Two different sound situations, two good choices. You won't be sorry with the new stalwart of the mini system, try the Sony for bedrooms, dorm rooms, or even a living room, the Tivoli for your cube.

1.0 out of 5 stars This biggest piece of crap I've ever owned, June 11, 2005
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX25 3-CD Shelf System with Game Sync Mixing (Electronics)
A little back story: My mother bought this gift for me as a combo-birthday-christmas gift. I was really taken aback that she had bought me such a nice gift. I unwrapped it and hooked it up in my room and put in a favorite CD. Well, it sounded great. I hit the stop button, and loaded it up with 3 cds and was prepared for a night of enjoying my favorite music. WRONG!!! The thing was no longer working. I had to have it taken back (which was terribly upsetting to my mother, who just wanted me to have a nice gift). Well, after waiting a week at best buy, a new one came in. I took it home, and lo and behold, it didn't work either. So, I took it back that day, and had to wait another 2 weeks. I got my last model in, and figured, "hey, it was just dumb luck". In fact, everything seemed to work on it for quite some time (some time being 2 weeks). At that point, it wouldn't recognize the discs intermittently. It just kept getting worse. It'll play cds if I eject and put them back in for 20 min., but I don't always have time or patience to do this. I cannot recommend this garbage system. I am done with sony after this. They are wayyyyy to concerned about making playstations to give a damn about the rest of their product line.
