5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
I purchased the Sony MHC-GX250 at Circuit City about three months and I must say, it has been worth every penny. Simple and easy to set up, it took me all five minutes to get it up and running. The bass on this thing is crazy, which is great for parties and get-togethers. If volume is what you want, you'll definitely get it from this system. However, I primarily keep the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy fix for GX250
I recently repaired a GX250 that refused to turn on (flashing power led), and apparently this fix works for most other problems too, including "no disc" errors and no sound output.

What you need to do is clean and reseat the (widest) white ribbon connector that connects the front panel to the large circuit board on the side. To get to the connector, you'll...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, August 3, 2004
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX250 3-Disc CD Shelf System with Game Sync (Electronics)
However, I primarily keep the unit my room and pop in easy listening when I'm laying in bed. Surprisingly, it delivers light music just as well as it does heavy. I just turn the bass off and switch it to either 'jazz' or 'soul' mode, and I'm sleeping like a baby. Since I bought it, there haven't been any problems with the unit. This is a great system for the price and I encourage potential buyers to search no further.

I recently repaired a GX250 that refused to turn on (flashing power led), and apparently this fix works for most other problems too, including "no disc" errors and no sound output.

What you need to do is clean and reseat the (widest) white ribbon connector that connects the front panel to the large circuit board on the side. To get to the connector, you'll have to take off the sides and the top, and then unscrew the cd tray so you can lift it up and get your arm and hand in far enough to reach the connector from the opposite side. Then unplug the ribbon cable, blow the connector out with some compressed air, and plug it back in firmly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound Quality, November 18, 2004
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX250 3-Disc CD Shelf System with Game Sync (Electronics)
Did a lot of research on several brands online and at the large electronic stores. For the price range this has almost the things I wanted...BUT... you will not find out until you open the box and read the instructions that MP3 audio tracks cannot be played on MHC-GX250. If that feature is not relevant, then this is a terrific unit. PS... bought this through Amazon which has the lowest price in town.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, October 5, 2005
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX250 3-Disc CD Shelf System with Game Sync (Electronics)
I purchased this product on July 30, 2005. Exactly 2 months to the day the entire system stopped working. The only thing this system is doing is showing the display. Nothing more. Dummy me, I also purchased the same product two stereo systems prior, didn't remember, that one lasted 6 months. Anyone who is even considering purchasing this product FORGET IT. You will get little help from Sony or the store you may have purchased it from. Run as fast as you can to another system. I must add that I did not purchase this through Amazon, so don't hold anything against them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should be zero stars., December 9, 2005

I purchased this item in February 2005. Here we are in December 2005 and there is zero sound coming from my speakers. The system just stopped producing sound. I reset the unit and it fixed the problem for about a week. Then the same thing happened again and the reset function would not fix the problem. I've never had a problem with a Sony product until this one. I am so disappointed because the sound (when I had it) was great. I mean really great! Now I'm out looking for a new system with a nice price tag. Ugh!

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 years later and loving it, May 8, 2011
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX250 3-Disc CD Shelf System with Game Sync (Electronics)
I bought this Stereo on 06/19/04 (I have the original receipt from Best Buy with me) along with a 2 year limited warranty. It's been 7 years and the stereo still works great. I had 4 speakers hooked up for a while, and got rid of the 2 extra ones. I needed to clean my connections, but the two original speakers still sound and work great. This is a purchase I have never once regretted and I'm glad I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best sound system I ever had!, October 15, 2006

This is an excellent product! 280Watts, 3-way sound purity. The groove feature is perfect for parties and can be switched off if you don't want to bother the neighbors. The best feature is the front auxilary connection; you can connect it to your TV and you got yourself a home theater with no noise at all! The long cords allow you to easily have the speakers on both sides of your TV.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX250 3-Disc CD Shelf System with Game Sync (Electronics)
First thing---- i like Sony Products. This product disappointed me. Sound output seemed less at home than in the store. The CD Turn table developed a very pronounced "creaking" that was louder than the sound output.
Will replace the unit with something----not Sony. Disappointed.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony MHC-GX250 3-Disc CD Shelf System with Game Sync (Electronics)
The unit has good sound and plenty of power, but as you'll read from others it breaks easily. Mine stopped working after only a few weeks - bad tuner. so I said "Oh well, that's why I bought a Sony - good design, good warranty - Hah! You cannot bring these devices to any Sony authorized repair shop. You MUST ship it to Texas and for me that meant about $20-$30 because the unit is heavy and I'm on the east coast. so in reality the Sony 1 year warranty is worthless unless you live near Texas.

My advice - buy a Panasonic. I wish I had.
