Excellent, crisp clean sound,

With a budget of $300, I shopped around for minisystems, listening to products from Panasonic, JVC, and Sony. Panasonic systems tend to have a muffled sound. I quickly ruled them out. The JVC GT88 has a slightly tinny sound, but the JVC Z10 is better and has excellent bass. However, this Sony really has the best overall sound. JVC just had good bass - the sound from above seemed to get lost. The Sony has the best quality sound and costs $100 less than the JVC. Music lovers, this is your system. Rap/Metal Listeners or anyone who just wants bass, go for the JVC GT88.Additionally, out of all the systems I looked at, the Sonys have the best overall appearance. The rest are way too gaudy. This unit is simple yet attractive. Sony MHC-GX45 - A great deal for $200.

I wanted some extra bass, after craving the punch sound from my old Aiwa unit, which provided me 8 years of listening pleasure. I thoroughly tested this unit with several cd's i own in Target. I had to take a step back at a volume level of 8 (less than half). This unit blew my mind. It has several equalizer settings, plus if bass gets too much, you can turn the sub off and it still sounds great.

I got this as a Christmas present and let me tell you, I've never owned anything with such great sound. In my opinion it was priced far to low. It has multiple bass settings and a subwoofer that can be turned off if needed. It may not have a flashy screen or buttons but the great sound defenitly makes up for that.

awesome power, but lousy sub and few features,

This stereo really cranks but the speakers are not up to snuff, no surprise, they sound terrible at high volumes. If you want to get decent sound out of ANY minisystem, first thing: upgrade the speakers, even cheap ones under $200 will make a huge difference. The glaring weak spot here is the subwoofer. In a nutshell, it's a cheap piece of junk which makes the bass sound like it's coming out of a bucket, especially at high volumes. Three things you ought to know about it: 1. There is no independent subwoofer volume control. 2. Because there is not independent volume control, the subwoofer has a volume cable as well as a sound cable---which means you can't replace it with a decent aftermarket subwoofer. 3. Because this system has no independent bass and treble controls, and only 3 present EQ settings, it's hard to escape the lousy and over-exaggerated bass at high volumes. Therefore I would not recommend this system if you like to blast your music AND want to enjoy quality bass, not just dull booming thuds. 4. There is no adjustable crossover setting. Not surprising considering this price level, but it would've been nice to know that you could have the subwoofer handle all the frequencies under say 100Hz. More features would be nice, like auto reverse and metal tape compatibility on the tape deck, a manual EQ setting, 5 instead of 3 CDs would've been nice. Also wish you could hook up both a VCR and DVD player and additional 3 speakers. The flashing red light in the center is kind of silly, but thankfully you can turn it off---I really wish stereo manufacturers would stop pandering to the 12 year old market so much. Oh well, what can you expect at this price? The subwoofer aside, it's still a tremendous price-to-quality ratio. I like the clean silver design, no garish colors like the newer Philips and Panasonic models. I got this one after returning a microsystem that I had serious reliability doubts about; this one has less crammed together into a tiny box, so hopefully it will hold up well.

I just got this Sony system as my Christmas gift. It is very good! I compared it with the Panasonic SC-AK410S. AK410S looks nice too and it holds 5 CDs. But for 20 dollars or so more, I got a subwoofer; and I have over 150 mp3 songs in one CD. So, the system can play for hours if I have three mp3 CD in it. There is better product in the market. If your budget is 200 dollars, get this one.

It's so good you could eat it all up. So much bass it could knock down the house.

Big Box, Bigger Sound,

I just purchased this system, and I'm greatly surprised of the quality sound that it produces. At first, I had a problem bringing the HUGE box home in my car, but for a system of this size, it puts out much more sound than it looks. I almost got the same system but without the woofer, I think that would have been a bad mistake. The woofer isn't incredibly loud (can if you wish), but insted adds a crisp low frequency to add to the quality of sound. I reccomend this product to everyone.

This radio has a seperate SUB-WOOFER which is really loud. The whole system sounds a lot louder than it is. The front video game jacks are really useful to. This radio is extremely good for it's price.
