5.0 out of 5 stars Manufactured by the Inventor of the Floppy
This is the retail box floppy sold by the inventor of the floppy disk - Sony. I agree you can buy these items at 10% less in other online stores. That is, you are getting an OEM from them - bare drives packaged in bubble wrap. That's it. If it were half the price, then sure buy it. 3.0 out of 5 stars NOT EIDE interface as stated
This uses the standard 34 pin floppy interface, it is NOT EIDE as stated in the ad. EIDE and IDE are for "Integrated Device Electronics" and is/was the replacement for most hard drives from the MFM/RLL days and use a 40 (or 80) pin cable, not 34 pins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Manufactured by the Inventor of the Floppy, May 7, 2003
This review is from: Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal 3.5" Floppy Drive (Personal Computers)
This is the retail box floppy sold by the inventor of the floppy disk - Sony. I agree you can buy these items at 10% less in other online stores. That is, you are getting an OEM from them - bare drives packaged in bubble wrap. That's it. If it were half the price, then sure buy it. But think about the savings you think you're getting from them - you still pay for shipping and/or taxes. This comes with free shipping and no tax, get the unit with something else and you're all set.

Amazon is offering this retail unit at a good price. For a little bit more, you are getting a sealed unit from the manufacturer box which contains a manual and installation instrutions (which some might need) and two extra faceplates and buttons in color granite (gray) and matte black - which they call as the "color kit". This is especially helpful for people who want to customize the look of their PC. What I did was to mix and match the faceplate and buttons. Why stick with one color throughout.

Frankly, I don't believe in the Sony quality brand anymore as I've experienced with their other products. However, I have to admit that the brand still gives a good impression. All the included faceplates have the Sony brand molded which makes it even more classy to look at and when installed in the PC case. This makes it better than getting any floppy that looks as generic as it can be.

Yes, this is just a floppy. But you're only getting one, right? Make it worthwhile and get from the inventor that offers the best extras in the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sony 305" Floppy Drive., January 26, 2007

This review is from: Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal 3.5" Floppy Drive (Personal Computers)
I ordered two for my two computers. They arrived without a manual, hardware or cables or instalation instructions. This is an item for knowledgeable computer people. I therefore could not give it five stars. Fortunately I had some floppy cables left from the past!

The price of $9.02 each was the lowest I found anywhere on the web. With $8.55 SH+H for two it was a good deal.

The drives performed quite well, as expected. Both XP computers had no problems recognizing and installing the drives. They are working OK.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for Savy Computer Person, May 10, 2009
This review is from: Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal 3.5" Floppy Drive (Personal Computers)
I can only speak for the good name of the floppy drive since any Sony product I have ever purchased has been excellent. Unfortunately, I did not realize this product was an internal drive which requires knowledge and courage for installing the device. There were no instructions for installation but help was available at the seller's office.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony 3.5 inch floppy drive: Satisfied., April 8, 2009

This review is from: Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal 3.5" Floppy Drive (Personal Computers)
My wife and I are real pleased with the 3.5 inch floppy drive [Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal].
The customer service was nice, the delivery was as promised and the merchandise is super.
I am a do-it-yourselfer type person. It would have been nice if brief instructions for installation had been included. However, I realize that information is available on the Web so I survived. It was easy for me to install; but, a less literate person would have needed an instruction from some source.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony High Quality Floppy Drive, August 25, 2007

Various colored face plates and Sony quality [plus price] made this an attractive add on drive. If it doesn't have the color face plate you want, paint it. Installed easily with exsisting extra power supply plug and on the ribbon cable as a "slave" removeable drive with the CD as prime. Screws? Go bum a couple from a PC repair shop or take one from the CD or HD drive, with just one screw "things" still arn't going anywhere

As with all Sony computer peripheral products I have used in the past, this item has met the same high standards and functionality. I highly recommend Sony over other manufacturers for reliability and quality.

The Floppy Disk was just perfect. I had no problems at all installing it and it worked perfect on the very first try. It took me no more than five minutes to install and check the unit out. The complete discription of the floppy drive given made me confident that it was the correct unit for me. The price was right and I received the unit right on time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Missing screws and cable, February 17, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal 3.5" Floppy Drive (Personal Computers)
Another reviewer pointed out that there is no cable in the box. What is also missing (in my case at least) is SCREWS. I have damaged a few installation holes on CD drives or disk drives because of incorrect screw sizes. You might say you can walk over to a computer store and buy screws. But, most screws come in small plastic packages and there is no way of knowing if the screw will fit or not, unless you rip the package and gently try a few. I have not used the floppy drive yet. So there may be revised review from me later.

It is a floppy drive. You plug it in and it works. Enough said.
