5.0 out of 5 stars This Vegas Is No Gamble!

3.0 out of 5 stars hard to handle
This is a top of the line product for video editing but not for a beginner. I have become very adept at using windows movie maker and thought that I was ready to move to a more complicated and advanced software but was blown away when I attempted this product. I am still working on learning to use it but that requires a lot of reading in the manual (online or in the...

I'm starting a small business and took a gamble that Vegas would provide the tools I needed to create DVD based tutorials for the educational kits we're producing. The software has exceeded my expectations by any measurement and after what must be hundreds of hours now of video capture, editing, and DVD production I've yet to experience a single crash or disappointment with Vegas on my Gateway Windows Vista computer. I certainly can't say the same for any of the past video editing products I've used including software by Pinnacle, Nero, and Adobe. None have come within even a mile of the combined feature set, depth, speed, and stability of Sony Vegas. I'm still shaking my head about the near-perfection of this product - especially since I got the software for free after rebate! But even at its Amazon retail price here? Vegas offers an unbelievable video production bang for your buck.

That being said, this also isn't software for the faint of heart and were it not for the comparable pricing of competitive products I'd hesitate to even put it in the consumer-class level of other video editing and DVD production software - simply because of the rich feature set and options it offers. For the person who just wants to produce family or vacation videos? Vegas may be just too much to handle. Its options have options that even have more options. That's excellent for those of us who want to tweak this, that, and the other on our videos before we burn to DVD but it's my perception the average consumer might feel overwhelmed by both that flexibility and the myriad of options offered through the sleek Vegas editing interface. We're talking option button city here! On the other hand, if you are new to video editing? Get ready for an education - and Sony does another excellent job of providing just that through its built in "How Do I?" tutorials and comprehensive help files. So if you have the patience to step through the tutorials and not be afraid to elevate your video production vocabulary to new levels? I'm confident that you'll find your time spent learning Vegas well worth your while.

If you've had some past experience editing videos? Then I think you'll slide into the Vegas way of doing things quickly and become bowled over like I was by what the software has to offer.

It truly is the best software purchase I've made in the past twenty years .

Sony Vegas is in a class all its own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very NICE!, June 2, 2008

This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
I am a 14 year old girl, and I absolutely love Sony Vegas. It may not be the easiest program to use, but once you figure it out (like I did) then you'll feel like a pro! You can have a lot of fun editing your movies and you can render them in many different formats such as .wmv, avi, mp3, etc. I'd say this is much better than windows movie maker because it is a lot more professional. I love using this and I hope you will too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use and Definitely Fits the Purpose, February 15, 2008
This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
This was such a big step up from Windows Movie Maker that it's unfair to Vegas Movie Studio to mention them together. Love the program and will continue using it for a while to come.

I have become very adept at using windows movie maker and thought that I was ready to move to a more complicated and advanced software but was blown away when I attempted this product. I am still working on learning to use it but that requires a lot of reading in the manual (online or in the book provided). Still a top of the line video software system but beware if you are not used to this type of program, it takes work getting used to.

4.0 out of 5 stars vegas studio is for those who need more than a slideshow, January 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
purchased Vegas Studio hoping to do better than an an average home video.
It has lots of features some of which can be complicated if you're not into video productions. But, It is better than some other products I have like (roxio, pinnacle, and ulead)! But its not up there with Adobe premiere either. Once you get over the how to's and navigate through the other settings its worth the money..

3.0 out of 5 stars Problems Running With Vista, July 28, 2008
This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
This is a very capable product that provides loads of options for creating unique videos with a bit of familiarization time. It is not for the beginner and requires some time to begin to get a handle on the range of options available for different media events. There are parts of this product that are intuitive and other parts that are not; it will take time to become familiar with most of them if you are not an experienced video production person.

Unfortunately, even with a top-of-the line Dell running Vista, the product became somewhat unstable as the slide show and video production became larger, sometimes simply stopping and disappearing without any warning or error messages. I ended up saving my projects often, but the most frustrating aspect of this product is that it would not completely render the final project and could therefore not create a DVD, and this was for a show that was only five minutes long.

I began to peruse the knowledge base and suggestions, but found out that the most prominent suggestions were to disable system and startup commands and/or to reduce the quality of the still photos so that RAM wouldn't be a problem. What?? That's why I bought the product; to be able to produce high-quality output on my Quad-Core machine, not to whittle my project down to get it to run.

I then built the same project in Windows Movie-Maker in 1/2 the time, but without some of the neat features you can perform in Movie Studio, and was able to create a DVD. Bottom line for me? Great product but does not appear to be stable with Vista.

2.0 out of 5 stars Movie Studio Great:: DVD Architect Bad, March 25, 2008
This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
I had worked with Sony Vegas Movie Studio + DVD before on Windows XP platform and loved the program. I moved up to Windows Visa on a new computer and have Vegas Movie Studio 8+DVD that claims to work on Windows Visa. The Vegas Movie Studio works perfectly and I continue to love the program but DVD Architect doesn't work on Windows Vista, so I contacted Sony Software and they say I need a new DVD Architect (not what was printed on the combined box.) To purchase an updated DVD Architect program cost almost as much as the combined Vegas Movie Studio+DVD. At present, I'm making the movies in Sony Vegas & burning the DVDs in Roxio and will probably convert to a different in the future.

I haven't used it extensively yet, but what I have done has been without problems. Still learning how to use what seems to be a very capable program.

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow, ponderous, and stupid!, June 19, 2011
This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
Don't waste your money! This software must have been written by 1st year programmers who never even bothered to try and actually DO ANYTHING with it before releasing it to the public. This is the slowest, stupidest lump of software ever perpetuated against mankind! Trust me, if you buy this you will be sorry because you will be unable to do anything productive with it--- it is a total waste of time, energy and cash.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for the beginner, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Vegas Movie Studio 8 (DVD-ROM)
I bought this software for my best friend hoping that it was easier than the Nero software she had. Unfortunately it is more complicated than I anticipated. I have used Nero for quite some time to edit and create home movies and it took me a while to get the hang of the program. My friend was having great difficulty with Nero and when I read the info on the Vegas Movie Studio it described an interactive help system of which I thought would help her to create her own dvds. It's a really cool program and does alot more than the Nero program does and I hope to make some really great videos with it. But it was not what I had hoped for my friend who needs something much simpler.
