This review is from: Sony MULTITAP FOR PS2 (Accessory)
Alrighty then first an explanation of my rating. I give it a three because yeah it is great if you have more than two people who frequently play the ps2 and have at least a couple of ps2 games that can handle multiplayer ability. You should make your own judgement based on this above but beware of a few problems that I am about to clear up that bump it down to a 3. Don't worry these problems DONT include the whining like other reviewers saying its tooooo expensive and they dont have many games to play multiplayer. That is opinionated. I am here to tell you the facts based on my encounter with websites and my own multitap received on Christmas.
Alright number one. Based on sites, the multitap for PLAYSTATION ONE does NOT I repeat does not play ps2 games. You may use it in your playstation 2 but it can only play the playstation 1 games and vice versa with the playstation 2 multitap. Number 2. There are a couple DIFFERENT TYPES of the Playstation 2 Multitap that you may need to look at. If you have been good adults, boys, girls, and teens you should have kept your playstation 2 manual that came in the box. It will tell you the number/ serial number of the multitaps you may use. It may give you a second party's multitap too but stick with the good old sony quality. [...] There is a multitap out there that I received for christmas for example that says its for the series 7,000 PS2 (meaning the slimmer version that just came out about end of NOV 2004) it says it does not work with some other series (forgot I returned it but the series it was talking about was the older fat PS2). So make sure you buy the right one pertaining to the type and serial of your PS2. The number for the serial of mine I found ON the ps2 in case you need to find it. To find the right kind you may need to keep checking amazon and your local video game or toy retailers but based on my experiences (I own the old PS2) I have been finding it hard to find the old multitap it is always gone and Best Buy (where my mom got mine which we returned bewause it was for the 7000 series) only carries the 7000 series Multitap in which a store clerk informed us of and is the only one online at Bestbuy.com. So I hope this review has helped and if it hasn't just make sure to kindly ask a store clerk about it before buying. Best Buy and Toys R Us clerks in the gaming department know what they're talking about for the most part if you need assistance.

A must have for the PS2,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony MULTITAP FOR PS2 (Accessory)
First off, lets clear up one thing. The original PSX Multi-Tap DOES work on the PS2. Unfortunately, you can only use it for original PSX games like Crash Team Racing. You just have to plug it into the First Player Controller Port, not the second. Then, plug your memory card into it and, voila. That said, if you have any intention of playing any form of PS2 Multi Player games, you have no choice but to buy this item. I have FIFA 2001 and its a blast with four players. My only reason for only giving it 4 stars is that Sony had no right to release the system without Four Controller ports. That was just a blatant excuse to make more money by forcing us to put out extra money for this device. And unfortunately, they'll succeed because only hermits and people with the disposition of a rabid rotweiler don't own at least one Multi-Player game. Shame on Sony for this blatant slap in the face of players and their pockets. And shame on me for not checking enough, in the rush, to find out that my original multi-tap wasn't going to work with the new games. Especially on a system that was SUPPOSED to be completely backward compatible. Kudos to them, however, for making me more buyer aware. You won't catch me like that a second time.

Must Have for Multiplayer...,
By Chris (Johnston, RI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony MULTITAP FOR PS2 (Accessory)
First off, let me clear up that unlike most PlayStation accessories, the original multitap for the PSX won't work with the PlayStation 2. That said, it's better this ways anyways. The multitap for the PS2 is extremly cool looking, and very useful for the games. Sony, for whatever reason, decided only to include two controller ports on the PS2. This was probably done so we all would have to buy a Multitap, and therefore spend more money. Asides from that, this thing is amazing. It looks extremely cool, and it's been described by ign.com as mini-me. If you get two of them, then you can have up to eight controllers and eight memory cards pluged in at once. This is great for multiplayer games, such as Timesplitters and NBA Live 2001 when it comes out. The only negative aspect about it is that the cord, which attaches the Multitap to the PS2, is only 3 inches long. This is ok if you use your PS2 in the horizontal position, but if you use it in the vertical position then the cord is not long enough for the Multitap to lay flat on the floor, which leaves it hanging from the PS2. That said, this is a must have accessory that anyone who plans on playing a multiplayer game needs.
